It’s official: Smallville’s upcoming two-hour Justice Society-centric “movie” is now an actual movie.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that The CW has jettisoned the separate titles that were initially assigned to each of the two episodes — “Society” and “Legends,” respectively — in favor of the singularly sensational (and far more marketable) Smallville: Absolute Justice.

What’s more, I hear the movie — which marks the debut of Michael Shanks as Hawkman (pictured) — will air as a seamless two-hour event with only one set of credits.

By the way, the air date for Smallville: Absolute Justice was recently changed from Jan. 29 to Feb. 5. Adjust your schedules accordingly.

I hate the title, but maybe they'll release it as a DVD... that'd be nice.

What an interesting development today. Its nice that it will be aired seamless for 2hr movie more like format. I wonder if they will be doing a special one time opening for this. Then more likely then not will be aired apart and all that. I also bet it totally will probably be released as a separate dvd deal along with being on season 9 dvd set.

Looks at news and instantly becomes---:woot:

OK I'm waiting......any minute now......is it Feb 5 yet???

well its more just retitling the two episodes which would be originally apart now one lol. Should be interesting to see what happens with this now.

2 much good news :D I can imagine what they have planed for for the series finally :awesome: 2 Hour Special series Finally title :super:"Superman":super: I belive that our dreams might come true after all

I'd only buy a seperate DVD if they really sweetened the pot (commentary, loaded with featurettes, awesome cover, etc.). Otherwise, I'll just wait for the S9 DVD, thank you.

yea if they are to do a special solo release dvd thing, i would think if its not coming out to end of the season/around dvd set they would add at least a commentary thing and maybe a little feature about jsa from dc comics guys like they did for green arrow/supergirl on season 6 and 7 sets.

Also yea if this does very well with ratings and all that i totally dont see why wb/cw when ever the show is to end. For it to be a good 2hr series closure deal. Plus we know this two parter/movie got a budget increase for the show. I am sure the series finale will be giving a good budget to work with.

Ok so now that we know it will be aired seamless as one thing in a 2hr movie format. Do you guys think they might do a special opening credits video for this?

Hawkman looks great, I expect Stargirl and Dr. Fate to be just as faithful...this looks incredible!

LOL.. wish people wouldn't call this a movie. It is just two episodes back to back. Not like it is anything special. If anything it means people get one less week of this show.

If they change it up at all, I'm guessing it could be 2 things:

1) somewhere in the normal opening credits (toward the end of the regular cast) we get a three-fer cast member screen. Similar to how you get a rotating shot of the cast member and then some moving scenes behind them, this would be just like another cast credit, only you'd have all 3 guest stars in it with the background either split up so each actor has a scene, or with a group shot of the JSA in the background. It would say something like "WITH SPECIAL GUESTS ..." and have the actors' names.

2) It may not even have an opening credits video at all per say. Perhaps similar to when a season starts, we'd get the update of what has happened up until now, except this one would be more JLA centric. Quick scenes from the first time Clark met each team member seperately (including MM and Zatanna), then when they first got together as the League to take down 33.1, then when they looked for Clark after he disappeared, ultimately culminating in the League sort of disbanding after the Doomsday fiasco (maybe show a little bit of the league getting back on it's feet now with Ollie back on the straight and narrow). Then, as one of the cast members says something along the lines of "And now, a special presentation of Smallville" in voice over, the title "SMALLVILLE: ABSOLUTE JUSTICE" shows up on screen (or maybe the cast member just says "And now, Smallville:Absolute Justice"). Then just fade into the first scene of the show.

Outside of that, the only other thing I could see happening is again, eschewing the traditional "SOMEBODY SAVE ME..." for possibly some sweeping establishing shots of the city set to some score music as we see the credits at the bottom of the screen.

But who knows, they could surprise us and have something really sick and epic in mind...

How i wish this was in cinemas.... since we are not getting any Superman movie in the near future anyway...

Wonder if it will be on DVD separately... i dont wanna buy the whole season just for 2 episodes...

Absolute Justice?

Will Steven Seagal be appearing in it?

LOL
Don't be that guy

The title does seem over the top, but given that it deals with JusticeSA and JusticeLA it's not being used for 'coolness effect' - it actually does make sense as a title.

They should get Alex Ross to do a promo poster for the movie:

(This is the cover for DC's Absolute Justice collection, btw).

Actually no its not, guess you didn't read everything.

Its a 2 hour movie special Dugath. Not at all two back to back episodes.
