Alex Garland Directional Debut "Ex Machina"

The ending wasn't cruelty or evil. It was pragmatism.

Not even a backward glance. A deeply affecting ending that shook me for days afterwards. Ava (for me) was unlikeable in that moment. Despite that Ex Machina is my best movie of the year but I have yet to see Spector or Force Awakens.

This is up on Amazon Prime if you guys have that.

The ending was great. I love me some femme fatales.

Modern day sci-fi classic as far as I'm concerned.

Such a ****ing beautiful movie. The ending was shocking though. I really didn't expect Ava to do what she did.

My movie of the year and the only movie left to change that is Force Awakes.

This ended up my favorite movie of the year, with Mad Max in a close second.

With the PGA nomination, this could sneak in as a Best Picture nominee. Though with Star Wars breaking records left and right and being critically acclaimed, I figure it edges Ex Machina out.

Still, the PGA has the largest voting body of any of the guilds (thus the biggest overlap of Academy voters), and it got the nom. Not to be ignored just yet.

Finally caught this movie on that last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. Movie was definitely engaging but I couldn't believe how young General Hux looked for some reason.

And I'm gonna memorize that Oscar Issac dance sequence too,lol

Yep, finally watched this on Amazon Prime and really loved it. Totally engaging and tense from start to finish. Works just as well as a suspense film as it does as a sci-fi. Wish I would've seen this in theaters.

i still belive that the majority misinterpreted the ending. :)

she planned to trick Caleb from the beginning. she knew that he would die. everything to survive . Caleb didnt care about her ...he was only attracted to her body and face :)

Finally got a chance to watch this. Really glad I didn't know anything/much going in.

I thought it was fantastic. No real complaints.

I just don't know if I'll watch it again. I wanna buy it because it's so good I wanna support it, but idk. It feels like one of those movies that on first watch it's so good because you (or at least I) didn't know where it was gonna go.
I might just buy it and even if I dont watch it know that I supported such a good film somehow.

That ending was a f***ing gut punch. Didn't need that after a long work week

I own it on Blu Ray. It's not something I'll be throwing in every chance I get, but it's one of those that's better when you let a lot of time pass between viewings.

I just don't know if I'll watch it again.

You will watch this movie again.

Actually, I might double bill this and Sicario next weekend.

The robo females in Ex Machina and Her remind me of when I've gotten dumped.

"Cooooold blooooded" - Rick James

It's a great film and illustrates both the practically and abstract power of ****y.

IMO, it's a movie that works REALLY well on re-watch, because without getting too spoilery, it's fun knowing each character's "agenda" and seeing their actions throughout the film in a new light.

Figured you'd all appreciate Oscar Isaac & that Asian chick dancing on a loop for 7.5 minutes:

This movie was a pleasant surprise. Though it does raise a lot of questions. Like did she really have a mind of her own? Nathan programmed her to want to escape. Everything she did was designed to make that happen. That really just shows that she's really well programmed, not necessarily sentient.
