Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

Yeah the Dark Horse comics plot would've 100% been better that what we got.
Look here's what I got Alien: Isolation the sequel the movie! It's Amanda looking for her mother and learning the truth behind the destruction of the Nostromo is a great idea.

I've been getting facebook recommendations of posts like "we NEED a covenant sequel that tells us what happened with David after Covenant and how we got to Alien (1979)" but like do we really need that? We pretty much know from the ending of Covenant what David will do once he gets to the destination and I also don't think we need to setup Alien in any way because we know a ship piloted by an engineer ended up crashing on a planet with eggs in the cargohold.

Call me cynical or negative but it's like people can't help themselves anymore. Mystery used to be such a big aspect to what made movies special. I still remember being a kid watching the first few Alien movies and you could only theorize about things like the origin of the derelict ship or how exactly things went bad at Hadley's Hope, but your imagination made you think about those films even more and you would rewatch them trying to pick up on any small detail. Now it's like we need a prequel trilogy to setup Alien and we need a game or comic to fill in the blanks of what happened here or there.

One of the best compliments I can give Romulus is that we actually didn't get to see what happened at the space station to leave it in the state it's in when our crew gets there. We get some nuggets of information told to us but we don't get to see it. And I'm sure we'll actually get that in a book or a comic or a short at some point but I gotta give some props to Fede Alvarez and crew for not doing that.

Just watched it. I enjoyed it. Brought up some interesting ideas.....the last 20ish minutes or so....I probably would've done differently.

But i'd watch it as part of a marathon.

I dont need to see any continuation from Covenant. Like ever. I am more than happy to abandon all the Prometheus stuff entirely and move on to things that don't suck

On the subject of Covenant

literally just get David sans Ridley Scott for the sequel. The only interesting thing from those movies which can absolutely work well if directed by, say, Fede.

Yeah I do wish the drop was less, but this will make it's budget back and more. There isn't much out to challenge it until Beetlejuice 2 either is there?
No but Deadpool & Wolverine is still competition enough even with having been out for a month. It looks like it just snuck by Romulus at the box office this weekend.

That's pretty much the key. Scott was so all over the place with Covenant that he probably shouldn't have directed it in the first place. We might have gotten a less disjointed movie if he had handed the keys to someone else and remained on board as a producer as he did with Romulus.

Loved this movie! I’ve only liked the first two in the series and this one was such a wonderful combination of horror and sci fi action. Can’t wait to see what comes next and I wish the Terminator franchise would take note and give us a new movie that brought back the horror aspect of the first.

Another thing to consider is that box office with franchises is also to some extent a reflection of previous movies. There's probably a sizable amount of people who are skipping this in cinemas because Prometheus and Covenant were so mixed and chances are a sequel to Romulus does even better in the box office because some of those people have had time to watch it at home and been won over.

I think Covenant underperforming had a little to do with not so great word of mouth plus the fact that it was released in a more crowded time at the box office having to compete for screens with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Pirates of the Caribbean and Wonder Woman didn't help it either.

Ripley should meet David, hundreds of years after Convenant. That would be fun. Thanks to cryo, you could have a lot of people cross paths if you wanted to. I know retconning Newt's death is popular, but I'd rather have Ripley find her daughter Amanda frozen somewhere.

Finally saw this movie in 4DX and it was a wild ride. First time seeing a movie in 4DX. I was previously going to see D&W in that format but somehow missed it. Alien Romous is THE FILM to see in 4DX it was an every enjoyable experience and really added to the atmosphere and tension of the movie.

As for the film itself, I thought it was one of the best ones in the series at a #4 (Alien, Aliens, Prometheus and Romulus). I didn't really mind the CGI and loved the messed up design of the xenomorph. It was back to basics and a good blend of what came before adding some of the Prometheus lore in the mix.

It might be a terrible idea but considering how you can work around certain timeline issues with cryosleep, in theory you could have a movie where Rain & Andy crosses paths with Ripley and they even throw David in there. A big Alien: No Way Home type of film where you tie all the things together. It could be fun to see though it could also be a trainwreck. I know a lot of people are desperately clamouring for "the final movie" in the David trilogy but what do you event want from that film? The derelict ship in Alien and Aliens definitely become a lot less special and interesting if we set up the course of events that ends a movie with that ship crashing there.

I think they need to keep David and Ripley desperate myself.

It could be interesting to see Rain and Andy run into him but Covenant just wasn't a good movie and didn't have a good reception.

I do hope we see Rain and Andy's story continue though.

Why not. This franchise's continuity is already shot to hell. Might as well do a little bit more. Let's Halloween H20 and Halloween Ends this business.

Is it, though? Covenant in particular went in some weird directions but there's nothing in it that really messes up the overall continuity like some other franchises (X-Men, Terminator).

Yeah the AVP movies are the only ones that throw off continuity if they counted but they don't.
