Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

I thought the show would be on Hulu, but will the movie be too? Jesus, with the exception of Avatar Disney has really crapped on all of Fox's IPs ever since the merger. They pretty much bought a whole studio just for a couple of franchises and the rest can either catch dust in a shelf or be thrown at a streaming platform as scraps. But hey, we'll have Wolverine crossovers (at some point) in the MCU so it was all worth it.

They bought Fox so that their money makers, aka Marvel and Disney and Pixar, would have less competition. The reason they felt they could go to 4 Marvel movies a year is because they took out a quarter of the major distributors.

If this ends up being as good as Prey was, I really hope they take another stab at AVP. That franchise deserved so much better and I'm sure we can still get at least one good movie out of it.

There are so many talented horror genre directors out there right now that would be great choices although Scott Derickson, David Bruckner and Leigh Whannel would be my top choices.

Hell, at this point I'd even pay Dan Trachtenberg whatever he wanted to do it.
I would love this if they got the right script. :)

I bet this will be a slasher movie with the alien creature in it. it will be focused on younger audience. i dont need more alien movies but it willl be funny next year when older people complain.

With the continued success of horror movies on the big screen, I don't understand having the Alien and Predator franchises languishing on Hulu when they can still make a lot of money in theaters.

I notice how in trades announcing the cast for this movie don’t mention streaming or theatrical release. It could be a case where if Alvarez’s Alien movie scores high in test screenings, Disney/20th Century could give it a theatrical release (a la Smile and The Boogeyman) instead of streaming.

They didn't mention theatrical, but Disney/20th did release The Barbarian in theaters last year, and it did very well.

We knew Prey was going to be streaming from the start, but that's probably for the best. 20th Century Fox tanked the franchise and made it no longer theatrically viable.

I have a wait and see approach on this. Fede Alvarez is a good gore and violence horror guy, but Alien needs to be about more than that. Also, what are they taking from the awful prequels and what are they leaving aside?

If Alvarez doesn't like things about the prequels, will he be allowed to ignore them? How much creative say does Ridley Scott have over the picture? Etc.

Look at how Ridley Scott was so wishy-washy about Prometheus and Covenant. His main takeaway from Covenant was that people still cared about the Xenomorph so he needed to bring the classic creatures back in Covenant. When Prometheus his whole idea was he wanted to "kill" the Xenomorph and serve him up on a platter like a boar's head.

If it's great, it deserves a theatrical release. While I understand why Prey didn't get one from a money perspective, that film was fantastic and deserved to be seen on the big screen.

Loving the practical sets! and Facehugger! Of course, should come as no surprise if you look at Evil Dead 2013.

Big shame if it’s good and doesn’t get a theatrical. I’m not a big horror buff but I don’t mind getting scared by Xenomorphs.

I hope they see what Evil Dead Rise and Smile do at the box office when switched from straight to streaming to theatrical.

And it wouldn’t need Prometheus type money to be profitable.

It’s so funny that it feels like the FX series has gotten the same updates over and over again for the past few years, meanwhile this one is actually happening.
