Sci-Fi Alien: Romulus (2024)

I really like Prometheus and Covenant, specifically on a technical/visual/atmospheric level. While I agree that it took away some of the mystery from the Alien movies, I also think the franchise needed to reinvent itself after Resurrection and, for me, Scott (or Lindelof) smartly shifted the franchise into another corner of the sci-fi genre. I wish they could've stayed in that other bunch of ideas that were established in Prometheus.
I can see the flaws, but I will always appreciate taking big swings.

This is coming next year?

Best of luck to them on this project but I’ve kind of given up hope that the Alien franchise can ever be good again.

If Predator could do it, I think Alien can too.

That being said, I'm not sure this specific project will be that redemption entry. I think the TV show has more chances in succeeding.

Yeah, I loved Prey and ironically I think the lore in Alien has more potential than Predator to make good movies. But not even Ridley Scott could make a good Alien movie in the modern era and he tried it twice. And look, I don’t need him to recapture the magic of his original film but I at least wanted a good movie. Instead I got a pretentious pile of crap that wasn’t half as smart as it thought it was and that was followed by an Alien version of Sleepaway Camp. I think they might just need to let the franchise go at this point.

To be fair, though, I don't think Ridley Scott has made a truly amazing film since the early 00s. He has made many movies and some of them are good but nothing that reaches the peak of his career like his most classic ones. And I personally liked Prometheus, even Covenant to some extent, but yeah, they were no home runs and the most interesting things for me were the the non Xenomorph stuff in those. I'm so glad he didn't get to do the Blade Runner sequel like he says now he would have preferred, because I adore his earlier work but don't have much faith in him lately.

Yeah, I agree with you there. He keeps cranking out movies but it’s been a long time since he’s made anything that I thought was amazing. And yeah, I’m glad he didn’t to Blade Runner 2049 because while Villeneuve’s film is a tad too long IMO, it’s still a masterpiece and I actually prefer it to the original. Give credit where credit is due, of course; Scott’s original Blade Runner is probably THE most influential sci-fi film ever made not named Star Wars, but I still thought Denis took the concept and improved upon it. Plus, no borderline rape scene by the protagonist.

I mean he's producing it, so what's he supposed to say, (and it's Disney doing Aliens¿? Never asked for more Alien(s), nothing was ever going to compare to the first two, Still I'm rooting for Fede Alvarez's fresh take, and hoping this is good.

Yeah, I don‘t care what Scot thinks. Alvarez is the only reason I’m looking forward to this.

Don't Breathe was just fine, while his Evil Dead and Girl in the Spider's Web were pretty bad. If anything I'd say him taking on another franchise is where he's at his weakest. On the other hand we've seen too many mediocre to horrendous Alien movies before so I don't have that much problem if it ends up being just one more.

I'm much more interested in Noah Hawley's series, both because of the TV format but also because of Legion and Fargo. Even if I'm not necessarily expecting something truly exceptional, that is a man who has earned my benefit of a doubt.

Excited it's Alvarez but not sure how much Scott's good word weighs at this point.

I'm still optimistic about it but yeah, as a producer on this, Scott's word means nothing. Remember how Cameron was hyping up Terminator: Dark Fate?
