ComicBook reported that Central Casting is looking for stand-ins and photo doubles for the un-named Wolverine 3 movie. The stand-ins required are expected to be “shorter Caucasian, Hispanic and Asian looking females over the age of 21,” specifically at a height of 4′-4’11” and size 0-4 with dark brown hair.

This description fits that of Mutant X-23 as depicted in the Marvel Comics. The Mutant X-23, who also goes by the name Laura Kinney, is a product of a group attempting to replicate the program, which gave Wolverine his Adamantium skeleton. However, this group decided to take a shortcut, and instead of trying to replace the bone structure of an already mutated body with Adamantium, they opted to clone Wolverine.

Now, given the uncanny similarity with Wolverine, it makes sense to introduce Mutant X-23 in Hugh Jackman’s final X-Men movie. In the animated version, Mutant X-23 effectively replaces Wolverine after his death. It’s not yet been announced who will play the role of X-23 in the upcoming X-Men spin-off New Mutants. However, it’s possible that the actress who portrays the role in the Wolverine 3 movie might yet be the same person who goes on to play the character in Marvel’s future X-Men movies.

Marvel doesn't have the film rights to X-Men, so I have no idea why you are calling them out instead of Fox.

I recall someone posting on the matter, and making a pretty good argument that *Fox* actually doesn't have the rights to X-23, Marvel does. Its because X-23 was created first as an original character in a cartoon, by a third party, and thus would have reverted in ownership to Marvel when that particular cartoon license expired. She'd be basically unusable by Marvel, natch, because they couldn't use various key portions of her character, like "mutant" or "clone of Wolverine", but this doesn't mean Fox could lay claim to the works of a third party, either.

WHEN JACKMAN IS GONE. X-23 DEBUT FILM WITH EMMA ****ING STONE!

That's right if Marvel doesn't use her in Spider-Gwen, I want Fox on her case next. :D

I thought she was in the new Wolverine movie? no
or was that never confirmed? just rumored?

^ That's the assumption many people are making. Who else could she be?
Personally I'm not against an X-23 solo movie but I don't know what exactly makes her more deserving of one than, say, Storm or Rogue.

^Because she's Wolverine, and we can't get enough Wolverine and we supposedly need a successor to Wolverine to continue the Wolverine-fest, and X-23 is Wolverine in the comics, last time I checked.

I, personally, would much more prefer a Storm movie. The Fox version never even seemed to be a goddess.

Well

Legitamate question but. What would be interesting enough about a storm movie to make people watch it?

^Apocalypse version is even worse. We know for sure Shipp's Storm was never seen as a goddess, as she's still a thief with little control of her powers when Apoc finds her.

I'm so glad you asked! I don't know about "people" per se, but Storm's bio reads like a really epic biopic. Her early life, with being an American-African (and not vice versa), and becoming an orphan makes for a really strong intro, as it has for many many characters. She somehow (there's a story there) ends up in Cairo and becomes a thief, and many stories, heists included, flow out of that, especially if you factor in Shadow King, a nice telepathic mutant adversary that can plague her for the duration of the film like a shadow of her past. Throw in Xavier and Gambit for tie in credits, but they're not even necessary to make a good storyline about a theif kid on the streets. From there, somehow (another story there) she ends up on the African plains, and discovers her powers, and her mother's heritage, becoming a goddesss, and in that context dealing with all the stories that evolve from what happens in the African plains, from poachers to child soldiers to civil wars and who knows what. A natural third act to such a film would be to have these two worlds collide as she decides who and what she really is.

Even though there are a lot of X-Men as cool and deep as Storm, I don't know any that had two full movie-fodder careers before they joined the X-Men. Even going from the current XMA version, Fox could have her lose her powers and journey to Africa to rediscover her heritage and have a similar effect because Storm's backstory is just that full. This is without touching on her magical heritage, without making an ersatz Black Panther, without her bringing one of the X-Men with her to have a Black Widow-like backup story, without even using Xavier as more than a post-credits cameo.

That sounds like it could be a great plot actually. I actually wouldnt mind a series of solo films for mutants. I think we were supposed to get an Origins film for other mutants like Wolverine but after its...critical issues. It was decided against.

But XMen like Storm, Ice Man Cyclops, Nightcrawler, and even Quicksilver I feel need solos. Maybe Psylocke too. Need more female films.

Yeah, I think that's what happened as well, and it really didn't have to. I think Wolverine Origins failed because it tried to cram too much of Wolvie's backstory into one movie. While Storm may have two careers, Wolvie has, like, ten. I think they tried to do the soldier, spy, experiment, woodsman and X-Man all at once, and it really, really didn't work. A much more solid Wolverine origins would have focused just on him as a Canadian woodsman trying to escape the endless war and failing so miserably before ending up in an experiment chamber.

I'm not so sure about some of the other X-Men as solo movies. Iceman was just a normal kid until he joined the X-Men. Some of the others who weren't so normal like Cyclops and Nightcrawler didn't really have adventures, they just had really f'ed up lives. I think the other really action-packed XMO movies could have included Psylocke, because being a British Intelligence agent trapped in an Ninja woman's body is pretty epic, and Gambit, as just this crazy heist flick.

Of course, they could just make up adventures for everyone, and while that doesn't sound good to me right now, who knows what might have been. Plus, it would have been really interesting to see a superhero movie that wasn't an action movie. Jean Grey could have an absolutely bonkers psychological thriller and what if there was a movie that really was JUST about a kid with powers not fitting in, and not about them battling a supervillain, but simply gaining acceptance at the Circus? Coulda been cool. In fact, it would have been cool, because I know I would have paid good money to see a Dazzler movie that was all about becoming an international superstar.

Most of the X-Men are too similar to each other to really warrant solos. Some details are different such as looks, powers, and personalities, but they mostly all follow the same basic storyline. Something bad happens as a teenager, the stress causes their latent mutant powers to develop, this makes them an outcast, they go to Xavier, he teaches them how to control their powers so they can protect the people who hate and fear them, blah, blah, blah...

There isn't a lot separating a character like Cyclops from a character like Iceman or Colossus. Not to mention that they all largely share the exact same supporting cast and rogues gallery.

It isn't like the Avengers or the Justice League, where they are superteams of completely individual superheroes that otherwise have no other link and are sometimes practically even different genres. A technological hero like Iron Man has very little in common with a medieval fantasy hero like Thor who has nothing in common with a street level fighter like Luke Cage.

While there are some different aspects of the basic concept that can be handled from a different viewpoint (such as X-Force or New Mutants), there are very few X-Men that I believe can actual handle a proper solo feature or franchise. Wolverine, Deadpool, Cable, Gambit, Dazzler, etc. but most of the regular team are way too similar to each other.
