people keep getting angry at small changes I mean really come on. Theres like 5 different versions of g1 out there each with small changes so get over it really. First fans say oh no megs can't be a gun so bay says ok he is a tank people don't like that so he changes it to a cybertron jet thing well fans don't seem to like that either. So get over it people take it as a different story like an elseworlds if you don't like it then give up all hope of your perfect transformers movie you can't plese all fans. Just like how WB can plese fans over the superman suit. Tim burton made batman and he changed things but people like the movie right so maybe Bay will get it right maybe you might even enjoy it. (waits for the transformers fans to get angry)

So what would you rather people do, deathshead? Roll over and shut up?

If you think Bay is a master moviemaker that has a pulse and love for this franchise that he'll get it right or at least even come close, then you're in the minority. All the guy has proven is that he can make MINDLESS hollywood schlock... no matter how visually impressive. A lot of us think Transformers should be better than the typical mindless hollywood schlock.

Honestly...YES I'm taking it as another Alternate Reality version of Transformers...Slowly I'm weening off any idea of it being majorly-influenced by G1.

There are ONLY TWO things I'm having issues with (and I'm almost certain that at least one of them will be changed for the better before the movie comes out too.)

My Issues:
MEGATRON --- If the script stays true to how it's been reviewed, Megatron doesn't do hardly anything but show up in the last 20-25 minutes (estimation here) of the film and loose. I also WANT him to be a Tank or some other form of Military Armored Vehicle. I've been voicing my concern on other boards about my wishes on him as a Tank. Cause a Tank is a good Alt. Mode to personify Megatron.

SOUNDWAVE --- I have actually very little issues with him being a 4ft. tall Decepticon Spy. My issues come from him, getting his head kicked off by the valley girl love interest of Sam/"Spike"....TWICE, his head gets kicked off supposedly twice. So he becomes a lame form of comic relief. Personally, I'm betting that this character will actually NOT be Soundwave, but instead "Soundwave" is just an alias, a place-holder like "Devastator".

I really don't have any other major issues with anything else. "Energon Cube" is still a dumb name to me for the Creation Matrix (which is what it's based on), but I can accept that name.

I honestly just want this film to be/have:
1. To be well-acted, enjoyable movie that is not just some 'actiony popcorn flick' that you see once and you never care to see again.
2. I want some good action sequences and some good characterization. I'm almost 100% positive on the action here, since it's Micheal Bay.
3. If there are G1-Based characters in the movie, for those characters to feel like who they are based on in personality and characterization.
4. To walk away, thinking, "hey, that felt like a good take on Transformers, rock on."

That's really all I want.

In which case there's a whole generation of casual fans, lapsed fans, and people that remember Transformers fondly that will be flummoxxed by this movie. It'll be exactly like Godzilla all over again.

Possibly...but I think we just have to take it as another New Spin of TF's. I used to stand against this, but as of late I'm realizing that's kinda not gonna work...LOL. Just praying for a good movie.

I'm sure it'll be entertaining.... when I rent it on DVD.

Actually, that's exactly what it should be. I fail to see how giant transforming robots fighting a war on Earth could be anything less.

Bold claim...
But if I were a betting man, I'd say your ass will be in a theatre seat like the other Transfans, Robot-Junkies, Action-Lovers, and Sci-Fi Geeks.

I could be wrong, but I don't think I am...particularly if the teaser trailer thats due out in July really shows what I'm hoping.

Cause it's just like how some feel Ghost Rider should be a campy, silly, one-liner, blow-em-up-fest movie with no real depth to it's otherworldly characters, nor should it show any form of emotional impact in any way.

I just chose GR at random...no particular reason. And yes there are people who feel that way about the GR Movie.

Nah, I learned my lesson with Godzilla.
And, waiting 3 1/2 hours on a line to get into to see Phantom Menace.
Nowadays I wait a couple of days... to get a feel for the word-of-mouth... so do most of my friends (all geeks by the way).

It's just not worth it.

I WILL be there on Day-1 if we hear rumours that Steven Spielberg has "stuck his nose" into the movie... like he did with Poltergeist (and saved it). Steven Spielberg is this movie's ONLY silver lining.

This movie should be an uber scifi/fantasy film about a war between living machines. The voice acting should be superb as should the special fx and characterizations.....

But who are we kidding? Michael Bay has been tapped to do this film, so we already know what the studios intentions are. In the end the Transformers movie will be probably be a typical, forgettable summer movie romp, complete with the obligatory reviews that proclaim it as "this summers thrill ride" or "one helluva rollercoaster ride".

Another pop culture icon bites the dust.

Just like comicbook films; WHY THE HELL IS IT SO DAMN HARD TO MAKE THESE FILMS THE RIGHT WAY?!!? Just take the damn material and put it on the screen!! Jesus H-christ!! If you're just doing it for the sake of summer movie profits, please leave such icons alone. Make aome other film about robots, just don't call it Transformers.

Is it to late for Peter Jackson or Sam Raimi to take over this film?

I'm wondering something here... what are these 5 versions of G1? I know of the Cartoon and the Comic, and thats all. The differences between the two are mostly in history. All the characters are the same in both versions except Grimlock. And most fans agree they'd rather have the comic Smart Grimlock with Speech Impediment rather than the cartoon Dumbass Grimlock.

Well there the show universe. The marvel comic which is a little bit differnet, dreamwave, then IDW, then well this movie. Also comic book movies have the same problem fans want a story that was in the comic to be in the movie which is great. But I don't want to see a movie where its the same dumb plot of the comic over and over again. Which is the reason I don't like sin city. I think they should have come up with a new idea set in the sin city universe. Cus when I see movies I want to see something different not the same thing worrd for word that I can simply read at hope and save money and gas, then seeing the same thing twice. Might alse be the reason I liked godzilla because im not a dumbass unlike some people who can't understand the word remake.I sort of got a little of track with what I was talking about sorry everybody.

The Dreamwave comics were a continuation of standard G1. It took place in the gap between season 2 and the movie, since the show takes place in the 80s, and the movie takes place in 2005. The IDW comics are terrible and should not even be mentioned.

Yeah the IDW comics have been pretty horrible but everyone also says that about the dreamwave comics.

Yeah, and I honestly don't know why. The arc with Sideswipe and Sunstreaker with the insecticons was lame, but everything else was cool. What with Sunstorm kicking ass, Bumblebee slowly having to take more of a command role, Prowl struggling with leading the Autobots after Prime was injured. I have no idea why people didn't like it. The only thing it seemed people had problems with was the human characters, which were in like 3 issues.

I'll take the movie as a movie,if it's good with changes then that's fine with me
As long as Megs and Prime stay true to G1 the rest of the changes don't bother me,just like Tall Wolverines don't

I LOVE this line:

Wow. I mean, WOW. Dude... "Remake" DOES NOT EQUAL "Re-imagination"
Godzilla sucked because, well, it wasn't Godzilla. It was a "remake" of Jurassic Park. If you liked that fine.

You can't seem to grasp the concept that you can slap a Title on ANY movie and call it whatever you want. You want robots that transform.... well, your movie could easily be called "Rock-em-sock-em Robots."

Transformers had themes, characters, ICONS, and an underlying ethos. You change them (like doing away with the environmental undercurrent and character dispositions)... but then it's NOT Transformers.

The solution is simple. Call the movie something else. I couldn't care less if Bay makes a movie where the character's names are "Optimus," "Megatron," and "Bumblebee".... that alone doesn't make it Transformers.

But, to you it apparently does.

P.S. Curious... but, how old are you. You come off as a sorta young.

I am taking it as an elseworlds.

Which ones, because the mini series were not. The ongoing was kind of, but a very loose continuity if anything. I should also note that the IDW stormbringer will own all our asses.

Here we go

G1 Cartoon US
G1 Cartoon Japan
G1 comic US
G1 comic IDW
G1 comic DW
G1 comic UK
G1 comic Manga (ties in somewhat to Headmasters/Masterforce/Victory/Zone/Battlestars)
G1 continuity Beast Wars (which appears to be some comic/cartoon hybrid they work from)
G1 comic continuity/cartoon hybrid (shows up in Transformers:the Movie comic and issue 68).

.
Well godzilla was a remake and I took it as one it was different they took the concept and changed it. Besides if you really want to get picky Japan just throws godzilla on movies that really aren't godzilla. The only real godzilla movie was gojira.

Does it really matter I like transformers like many other people. Sure I didn't see the show when it was on but that doesn't mean I like it any different. I grew up with lots of things like x-men:tas and when I heard about a movie I was overjoyed but when it wasn't like the show I was fine with. After awhile I found out theres many diffent versions of x-men. Theres 2 shows a movie and comics set in different universe. But I ask you don't feel insulted if this movie is not word for word or look for look of what transforemers the cartoon looks like. This isn't a cartoon anymore its different this is a different time frame its an elseworlds.I can understand when you don't want something you like change but get over it, it happens nothing can bring it back move on.

What concept? A giant monster that can 1) nuke at will and 2) is here to teach mankind a lesson for their destruction of the environment, warmongering, and arrogant ways. Godzilla embodies mother nature... both a protector and a destroyer (with some allusions to Godzilla also representing the United States).

Um, I didn't see any 1 or 2 in the movie. I was reminded a lot of Jurassic Park tho.

You're talking to a Godzilla fan. And even from the horror-esque original Godzilla to the campy ones of the 60's to the fantasy filled but WAY dead-serious ones that have come out of Japan in the last 6 years, they ALL have an underlying ethos and character.

Watch any Godzilla movie that has come out in the last 6 years from Japan and see what THEY think about US Godzilla... hint: they make fun of it. It's sad because US Godzilla was highly anticipated in Japan.... but, you could almost hear the collective heartbreak when they watched it.
