Am I the only one who feels like B'89 is vastly overrated?

See, the issue is that you seem to think brooding means "melancholy". That's not all that it means. Can one brood and be sad? Sure, but brooding is far more than just that.

Re, Green Lantern, I like some of what was done with Green Lantern. I like Hal being tested. I don't know that I like him becoming an out and out villain, although let's face it, it led to a LOT of interesting storylines overall.

TrueToTheCore…Like I said, I meant no disrespect, but you’re definitely a hard man to please. I’d hate to be the guy having to make you laugh. Tough audience. Is it fair to say you’re picky with Batman?

If any Bat-movie is overrated, I'd have to say it's Begins. Now, before we start throwing around "Burtonite or Nolanite" let me make something clear. Before TDK, BB was my favorite Bat-film. But some of the praise that movie gets (or had when it first came out, it's a little more down to earth now) was ridiculous.

When BB came out, people were calling for an Oscar for Bale, or proclaiming it one of the best movies of all time, not comic book movie, but movie. I haven't ever heard the same of B89 (of course, I was in diapers in '89 so I can't say what people were saying when it was first released.)

I've never heard anyone claim B89 to be one of the best movies of all time. I've only heard it called a good Batman movie. And it was, it had a solid plot, Nicholson did a great Joker, Keaton was a good Batman and in my opinon he delivered one of the best lines in Bat-film history (his quiet delivery of "I'm Batman" gave me chills the first time I watched it). I've never seen B89 to be built up for more then it is: a good movie about Batman. So I don't see how it could be overrated. It's not like people are walking around saying it was as good as Citizen Kane or the Godfather.

you know, i should probably create a thread titled "am i the only one that feels Batman Begins is vastly overrated?" because thats also how i feel. nowadays, i feel B89 and Returns are vastly UNDER rated.

Maybe now but not until BB came around. I for one couldn't stand the Burton movies from the start. I don't think that he handled the characters with respect. Kind of like the way Frank Miller uses the character but does whatever he wants with them so they'll fit his 1D view.

That be said, I understand thats my way of thinking and I fully respect what others think. The truth is that Batmans been done 50 different ways in the comics so there are only like and dislikes... not truths and untruths (is that even a word?).

You know that "All Star," while semi-serious, is also something of an intentional satire, right?

Yes.

That full respect you talk about should include not to label as "1D" any view you disagree with. Miller's and Burton's work have both influenced what came aftwerwards.

Well I guess 95% of all Batman fans and 98% of all people would say now that "The Dark Knight" is the best Batman movie. Batman (89) deserves its place in movie history, perhaps more than the new movie, but it's really flawed. And it was even back then.

None of this really matters, regardless 89 is a classic and always will be!

While you make several good and valid points, but I still do not think its overrated. A lot of flaws and inconsistencies, but it's still noteworthy and highly enjoyable. Personally, in order, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins and Batman are my top 3 Batman movies.

I do think it is quite the overrated film...I also thought Returns was better...

I thought Returns was visually more interesting, but thats about it. The story seemed like something ripped straight out of the 60s.

the 89 film is overrated. we saw more joker than batman thats the big problem the film should have been called Joker.
when i watch a superhero film i like to see the hero not the villian or the person under the mask.

And King Kong should have been called "Ann Darrow" and Jaws hould have been called "Chief Brody" and The Lord of the Rings should have been called "Frodo."

More screentime doesn't define the absolute main role.

when i watch a superhero film i like to see the hero not the villian or the person under the mask.

Are you saying that there's a bat-movie where there's more Batman than Bruce Wayne or that you don't like any bat-movie?

Again, I really don't see how this film can be called overrated. If anything, Begins was (and I liked BB more then B89).

With Begins, we had people saying it would out gross the 3rd Star Wars, that Bale should be nominated for best actor, that it was one of the best movies ever...ect. ect...

I've never heard anyone claim that about B89. I've only heard it called a good Batman movie and a good superhero movie. That's it. I don't see how anyone could call it overrated when it was never rated that highly to begin with. No one's ever tried to make it out to be more then what it is: a good Batman movie.

I agree, but to play Devil's Advocate, if the internet was around back when B'89 came out, it's possible that the same would have been said.
