Amalgam suggestion: GL and X-Men

I wondered what would happen if you replaced the Sentinels with the Manhunters. What if malfunctioning Manhunters fell to the X-Men's Earth in the 1960's. Scientists used the technology for the Sentinels. The most effective weapon was a shock from their staffs that neutralizes a mutant power. Call it gene-locking. By the 1980's every mutant was neutralized but the Manhunter's true behavior fully emerged. Soon the world is under the tyranny of the Manhunters.

In the 1990's a Green Lantern finally comes to investigate that Earth. He allies himself with former mutants. Fortunately his ring can reverse the gene-locking and the X-Men are formed. But does he unlock the powers of every mutant on Earth?

I was thinking of having it coincide with the Roswell crash, but I think the 60's was a better decade to start. It takes scientists years to understand and recreate the technology but not that long. Then finally by the 1980's the Manhunters are fully aware and take over. So when there's already a large army of 'sentinels' they suddenly shout,"Nobody escapes the Manhunters!".
