Sales numbers for last month (which was a big time down month by everyone's estimation) for those rankings were 82000, 81072, and 68651, an average of 77241. Wait a few days if you want the actual hard numbers. Since the industry as a whole seems to be declining, I think you need to look at the ranking: For March AMZ posted at #'s 4, 8, and 14. For April: #'s 8,14, and 16. I would call that a decline, but certainly not the apocalyptic one that some ore making it out to be.

It's a tricky game to play. I would say that sales are slipping slightly, but nothing all that dramatic.

The thing about these "index" numbers is that unless you know how many copies the book that has an index of 100 sells, (which you could then calculate using the ratio), they don't really tell you quantity.

It's a ratio of all books sold for that month...

Depending on what sold, every month will have a different book with a 100 index, everything else will be a ratio of that quantity.

Batman #675 has the index of 100 in April, so Secret Invasion sold approx. 3.51 times as many copies as Batman #675.

The three issues of ASM have sold approx. 1.22, 1.10 & 1.08 times as many copies as Batman #675.

Bats #674 sold over 68k, so unless #675 sold better, we could be looking at an average of 77k for ASM in April.

But before everybody jumps on me with those numbers, I am guessing here, because I'm not really sure I understand the index system completely.

The only thing I get out of message board links like that one (and similar to this one) is that the majority of BND haters are not very civil not polite to those that do enjoy it. Of course, there are exceptions, and the nice ones on this board know who they are.

The numbers aren't what they seem, and are hard for either side of the coin to read. And comparing them to old numbers back in the day is not a fair comparison because there are too many new and different variables now with this 3X stuff. So, both sides have to be careful trying to tell people what the numbers "mean"...regardless of what "Side" you're on..oy.
