I thought you didn't read any posts before........and that you were just making a general statement?
Are you done contradicting yourself today?
Anyhoo, I sent you a PM. Hope we can be friends.
As someone who has an alcoholic father and detest him for that, I see nothing wrong with Peter getting hammered at the wedding. I'm not a big drinker person myself, but at a special occasion such as this wedding, I see myself certainly going to be making a couple of trips to the bar. So whats the big deal?
Well said. Peter has been show to drink before (even in the very chaste movies with him ordering champagne) and I do recall an issue after he got back together with MJ in JMS' run (when it was still good) where they got drunk at a restaurant together.
It doesn't mean he is an alcoholic. Him sleeping with a woman while drunk? eh. He did have a one week fling with Black Cat after breaking up with her in ASM (complete with MJ walking in on them the morning after and BC with no pants on making breakfast) and yet about three issues later (I kid you not) Peteri s proposing marriage to MJ. Again.
Sometimes the writing is off. But most 20-somethings or those who had those years can relate.
I've had to cut my monthly pull-list by more than half, with Amazing Spider-Man being one of the remaining three. That said, good issue. Loved Alberti's art in Spider-Man/X-Men and he doesn't disappoint here. Story was good, except the devolution of J.J.J. Oops, Pete had a one night stand...is that the world ending?...I couldve sworn I saw the sky cracking and the oceans boiling when the preview came out. Jeez. Anyways, besides his JJJ, I'm lovin' Mark Waid on the title, and if they were to mess with the current formula and have a steady creative team, Waid would be in my top 3 to take over.
Your wrong about that issue.
While Peter is drinking. It's never directly implied into the story. Same thing in the recent annual. (which I don't have a problem with)
Peter was making fun of the waiter to make his wife laugh. Mj whispers in his ear (probably something sexual) and Peter says no he wants the time to be right.
No one is calling him an alcoholic. Clearly you are probably a drinker and you might be getting slightly offended. Or you might think some of the readers here are light weights and think they are above drinking.
The whole point about this title is that it's rated A. (9-up)
They've even made a joke about it being the "all ages" comic early on.
My nephew used to be able to read this stuff.
I don't want my nephew saying things like
"HEY UNC I WANT TO GET HAMMERED AND LAID LIKE SPIDER-MAN!!!"
Because let's face it. Spider-man had no repercussions in that story.
The message in this story was, "its ok....nothing happened because of it."
He was drunk before in web of 38 (BY ACCIDENT) and he faced nearly fatal repercussions in that storyline.
I think we all can agree that there ARE laws for a reason that prevent the consummation of alcohol under 21. BECAUSE IT HAS NEGATIVE EFFECTS!!!
Unless something is really wrong with half of you guys, you should at least be able to respect why I'm offended that they have one of the top Role model heroes doing something like this.
I don't see how half of you guys think that our disgust of drunken Spider-man getting laid is "funny". That's very rude and disrespectful.
I never laughed when any of you complained about stories during JMS' era.
I like the clone saga and some of you have quit, and I respect that. I don't laugh like its funny or act like I don't understand why you guys were driven away from the title.![]()
I'm not reallly offended by what you said or the issue. I personally think it is a poorly written "Friends moment," but I don't think it ruins the character. After all the crux of Spidey's creation was a mistake with Uncle Ben and the point is he keeps making mistakes, like when he threw away the costume, etc.
And he has been sexually promiscuous before. I mean he pretty much had a week of casual sex with BC white sort-of dating MJ (and then proposing to her three months later). And I do recall it is insinuated that he had a one-night stand with Betty Brant while she was married during Wolfman's run.
I suppose it is less obvious than seeing him wake up naked in bed, but in a book where people regularly are murdered and women are drawn as shallow sex kittens half the time, eh?
BTW I do drink, though I wouldn't call myself a "drinker," per se. So, no worries.
And let's not forget about the issue itself.... [blackout]... God Damn!!! MJ knows!!!![/blackout]
And anybody just dismiss it to alcohol, or was Peter's memory loss maybe all about being close to Mary Jane... because it kind of comes off that way...
Just guessin'

Aw crap! Mark Waid just got owned!!!!!!!!! What a hack!
No he didn't. I will repeat what I said to you in the Amazing Spider-Man thread in the Marvel forums.
I had a similar experience in real life with my best friend. Never drinks. Never smokes. It was a mutual friends wedding and he was in the wedding party. He was paired up with one of the brides maids and they had to dance. He can't dance. He liked the girl and wanted to impress her. He was so nervous that he took a shot of whiskey when it was time to dance. He wasn't "wasted" but for him to take a shot of whiskey I was like "Oh Snap, he's freakin' nervous!".
It was a little out of character for my friend. It was a little out of character for Peter Parker. Though the circumstances surrounding it can make people do things that they don't normally do. Happens in real life all the time. It should show fans, and readers, how nervous Peter had become in just talking to Mary Jane. Though...doesn't matter people seem to already have their minds made up. Just figured I would share that story with everyone.![]()

SIAT: Spider-Man is in costume there and knowing full well he may have to swing into action.
Don't bother using real-life logic with DACMAN... ever since we were polite and he asked for some suggestions for ASM and I told him to read ASM #600, he's since flipped, started anti-ASM threads (that got closed) and will nitpick ANYTHING just to point out how crappy Spider-Man is nowadays...
It's quite sad really...

People try to stand on this high moral ground now that anyone that partakes in drinking at a party and ends up in a one night stand (a reasonable one at that, since both where trashed and live together), they they are bad. Get off it.
