One of the people that got the game early and put videos on youtube, someone commented on one of his videos asking how to unlock costumes and that's what he told them.

I only ask cause it seems enemies are super slow to attack and do so one at a time.

I need somwhat of a challenge so beating up thugs ain't a total walk in the park.

You can set the difficulty after the intro portion of the game and you enter your apartment. Actually you may be able to set it prior to the intro but either way, all levels of difficulty are available from the get-go.
