Amazon's The Tick

It'd probably just be easier to not acknowledge it at all.

There are set pics from the filming of the season that show his old suit, so it looks like we will see the transition from one to the other.

I don't want to jump to too many conclusions. I recall in the pilot, there was this weird moment where it seemed that Arthur as a kid was being haunted by his night light that had Tick's personality? It was a strange moment. Almost like Arthur has somehow conjured the Tick out of his own childhood imagination.

Or I could be misreading that, and it's not a flashback. It's Arthur having a dream where he's his younger self and The Tick is appearing in the dream as his nightlight.

episodes 2-6 released today... episodes 7-12 will be released sometime in 2018...

This really shot up on my top lists, even though I'm just half-way into the 2nd ep.
Really refreshing.

Yeah, I just finished episode 2. It is infinitely better than the pilot, which I didn't care for very much. But I am glad I gave it a second chance and I am glad the writers have decided to make the Tick a bit more likeable and take the show a bit less seriously.

Pilot's are usually the worst episode of some shows. Especially because the proceeding episodes are filmed months later.

I thought the pilot was the perfect precursor. Had just the right amount of black comedy smeared over quaint drama. Now it's every bit of what I love from The Venture Bros.

LMAO That Dog and the VLM.

This show is awesome and a ton of fun.

Yeah that was pretty great. People who watched the pilot ages ago might want to watch the first episode again, as it's slightly different with at least one new scene.

"It's like he was looking for a place to keep his knife, But nowhere was good enough" :funny:

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Let's just call it rice." :lmao:

Despite being really turned off by the pilot, I loved the new episodes. Serafinowicz does a great job and worked out all of his kinks from the pilot. The writing and characterization of Tick is much better as well. Plus the tone of the show is a bit lighter and that improves it a lot. Its no longer really going all dark, gritty, and angsty (as the pilot was) but rather lampooning that trend in modern superhero films by embracing Tick's absurdist elements and setting it against a more realistic backdrop. It feels more like parody than the pilot (which is what The Tick ought to be).

The only complaint I have is the release, and that is an Amazon complaint rather than a production complaint. The fact that Amazon released six episodes and intends to release six more next year is a perfect example of the problem with Amazon Prime and its delve into original content: Amazon is trying to do the Netflix model, but they are doing it cheaply. By releasing six episodes a year, they are only producing half of the product that they would be if they were doing full seasons. It is corner cutting. There is no reason for the 12th largest company in the world to be cutting corners.

But you see it with every aspect of Amazon shows. There is a reason so few of their shows have quality talent (despite the fact that A-list actors are more than willing to do streaming shows) Its because Amazon won't spend on talent. There is a reason that their service isn't even comparable to Netflix. Because Amazon won't invest in building a more user-friendly, higher functioning platform. CBS All Access currently has a better platform than Amazon Prime despite one being around for about 5 years and the other being relatively new. That is so damn telling.

If Amazon ever truly wants to be a legit contender to Netflix, they need to start spending on their product. Its really kind of pathetic that Amazon is so cheap with Prime, despite digital services clearly being the future of the company. Amazon has revenue and profits 15x that of Netflix. Amazon ought to be investing a little bit more back into the product.

I had so much fun watching this show. With Edlund behind this I always felt this would be on the right track and true enough it is. It effectively captured the fun aspect of the comics and animated series. It felt like this could have been a superhero take that someone like Terry Gilliam could have made during the time he made his "Trilogy of Imagination"(Time Bandits, Brazil, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen). I hope for even more comic/tv cartoon villains and heroes in the next season.

I interviewed Arthur's actor Griffin Newman.

So far I'm digging it. Once it gets going, I think it really picks up. I think Peter definitely has the personality of The Tick down. Plus it starts incorporating more absurd Ben Edlund type ideas as it progresses. I love Danger Boat and VLM, plus Onward the dog.

I think the pilot was a bit of an adjustment because it was a lot more grounded and took a while to find its footing.

Also, I think this was very well written, and for an Amazon TV series, it's fairly well shot and has some decent production values. IMO, looks way better than what I've seen so far of Inhumans.

That interview with Onward was perfect.

FYI, Alan Tudyk voices Danger Boat.

As someone who enjoyed the pilot, man, the series got much better afterwards. That was great.

We better get the VLM resolution in the next chunk of episodes.

It is kind of a bummer we have to wait until next year to get the rest of the season. Technically we only got five episodes here. But that's mainly because it did get so much better after the pilot.

I like how they gradually built up VLM in the earlier episodes.

I also want more of Onward. I wonder if he was some sort of turncoat against the Freedom Five.

That was some great world building that they did.

It's especially fun to rewatch the episodes for this show because you can find all the fun world building elements in the background. Book stores selling Onward's book and such. That robot head next to Tinfoil Kevin, which granted was hard to miss.

I hope we get to see Tinfoil Kevin's office in for season 1.5.

shouldn't this have it's own sub-forum?...
I agree it should. However, there probably isn't enough interest for it to support it's own sub-forums. Plus only six episodes, one that's been out for over a year. We have to wait at least several months for the rest of the season.

Goat - "They're going to kill me!"

The Tick - "Not on my watch." "Welp gotta go!"

LOL

Nope, later this year.

it WAS originally said that the remaining episodes were to air in the early part of 2018, but you're right... it seems that the word NOW is that the remainder of the episodes WILL air later on this year in the fall...
