AMC orders 'Preacher' pilot.

Dammit, Randal, I'm too used to you beating me to the punch with news stories. I was expecting casting. :csad:

Healthy dose of Westerns, very good!

A casting idea for Jesse just hit me, and it would stay in the AMC family...

That's not a bad idea at all, Sawyer. I bet he could pull it off rather well.

I wouldn't have a problem with that. He's got the Jesse look for sure.

If you're not going to stick to the source material then why even bother?

Who cares if they change the race if it is otherwise not going to impact the story or the spirit of the character?

Oh, yes. The ones who decry anything that doesn't fit a narrow interpetation.

If they were to go in with colorblind casting and happened to find a woman of color that fit the role perfectly, that would be one thing. But flat out saying "yeah, we're making her black" is probably gonna ruffle more feathers than need be. I don't care either way as long as they do the role justice, but they probably could have handled the announcement a little better.

The only "narrow interpretation" in this particular case is seemingly held by the showrunners specifically calling for a black actress. But I guess all the Asian and Hispanic actresses that could just as easily play this part can go hang, right?

So much for diversity.

For what it's worth this isn't even much of an official announcement. This is one guy from the Hype that claims he was told this. No one else has reported it yet as far as I know.

Always someone to nitpick anything. If there's a way to intentionally and purposefully misinterpet a comment, you can be sure someone will go out of their way to do so.

And if there is a surefire way for a marketing team to raise awareness for their new show, you can be sure they will go out of their way to do so.

Working as intended.

Anyway I don't see how it's misinterpreting anything. Either

a) they are looking specifically for an actress of one race while excluding everyone else because reasons, or

b) they've already hired someone, in which case why are there stories (story) being run that they must know will incite anger in loud nerds everywhere instead of just saying "We have a great actress picked out for Tulip and her name is _______"?

If she was black and they made her white, this would be a strike against humanity. But the other way is apparently fine. Imagine if they made Susannah Dean white in a Dark Tower adaptation. The Preacher crew are some of my favorite characters. I want them brought to life, not diversity for diversity sake.

This is Tulip.

So yes, it negates it. And that is before we get into her back story. You know the one with the hard ass white, southern, sexist, Republican, jerk of a father who only ever wanted a son. Whose heart was melted by his brilliant little girl.

So casting call time. Who does everyone like for Tulip? Here is my choice.

So I suppose they're dropping Cindy from the Salvation arc now? What about Amy?

Couldn't care less about racebending(if the there characters race isn't important to their story obviously) myself, but targeting a specific race just to change something is......dumb

Still not really bothered by it though.

I haven't read this in so long...

I'm more interested in who plays Herr Starr and Arseface.
