Who cares if they change the race if it is otherwise not going to impact the story or the spirit of the character?
Oh, yes. The ones who decry anything that doesn't fit a narrow interpetation.
I don't care either way as long as they do the role justice, but they probably could have handled the announcement a little better.
The only "narrow interpretation" in this particular case is seemingly held by the showrunners specifically calling for a black actress. But I guess all the Asian and Hispanic actresses that could just as easily play this part can go hang, right?
