oh crap, this episode a bit bloody

Yeah! Gory -especially the leg- very graphic. I'll admit, the leg bit had me squirming a little.

Good episode though, I wasn't expecting quite that much excitement. I thought it would be a lot more back and forth about what to do with Ruth (maybe that's next week). Micky's new crew are interesting.

Probably my favorite part of the episode was Durant and Bohannon sharing a drink. After all the crap they've been through together, it's cool to see them in their quieter moments.

Gruesome stuff this week between the leg amputation and the eye gouging. Eva really isn't going to forgive Cullen anytime soon for Elam either.

When Sid died I thought Cullen might just dump his body out of the window and say he fell and broke his neck trying to escape, I mean it's not like a CSI team is on hand to disprove it.

Mickey's psycho cousin is gonna be Cullen's next problem but he might not get to him until next season as he's going to be all about saving Ruth over the final two eps. The final scene with him walking her to the jail........:(

It was cool to get a little backstory on Ruth and now we know how her father became so nifty at the whole beheading lark.

I loved that scene as well, it was a great bit of light relief between all the misery and gore.

Something similar occurred to me while watching that scene as well. Before the Governor walked in, I imagined Cullen pulling off some Vic Mackey style trickery -shooting the walls/ceiling, putting a couple of bullets in Syd's corpse. When asked what happened, he could have weaved a basic tale about they Syd snatched his gun, they struggled and Syd came off second best.

Oh well, I guess Bohannon wasn't feeling too devious that day.

My favourite part of the episode was the governor throwing his arms in the air and shaking his head. The best part of the episode was the constant hammering in the background.

[BLACKOUT]I would not want to be pals with Bohannon. His last real friend is Mickey, and he's a nutjob. Oh and maybe Soames. Soames is pretty solid.[/BLACKOUT]

damn :( was hoping they wouldn't hang her

The season where everybody dies. :(

And this isn't even the final season. Hate to see the death toll next season.

I hate how every final season has to be a free for all slaughter. :(

I blame Game of Thrones. I'm pretty sure TV shows weren't always this way.

Geez, this show. :( The scenes between Ruth and Cullen were so well acted but I knew they meant she was a goner. :waa:

I'm not a fan of it either. It feels so...disingenuous. The characters escape some crazy stuff throughout the show, but because its a final season suddenly they run out of luck and bite it in dumb ways.

I'm not wholly against it perse, but I do agree with you. Look at slightly older shows like The Shield, The Wire, even The Sopranos. How many of the main characters died in those shows, not just in the final seasons but in the entire run? Not many at all. In The Shield, it was maybe one. And the deaths had, I think, a lot more impact because they were few and far between. Knocking off characters with such frequency tends to take away some of that, because it becomes commonplace.

Which isn't to say I'm unhappy with this current trend, only that it's a very different, and perhaps not quite as memorable, way of story telling.

Not much of a season finale. :(

I enjoyed it. No bangs and action, but it set the table very well for the final season.

Yeah, it was a good set-up. There's definitely more to whatever happened at the Mormon compound though. Last I checked, smallpox didn't cause people to slash each other's throats, unless they were all killing themselves to die quickly or something. But I think the Swede had something to do with all of that.

Also, as much as I love this show, the whole thing with Ruth being hanged kinda pissed me off. I mean, she shot a mass murderer who previously escaped similar punishment by being PARDONED AND DEPUTIZED because Campbell is an idiot.

And oh yeah, Campbell is so adamant about enforcing the law, that he doesn't even arrest Mickey's cousin, who CUTS OUT A GUY'S EYEBALL RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.

There needs to be a bit more consistency with this kind of stuff. Killing Ruth just felt like the show needed to tug on another heartstring.

I still the finale would have had more impact on me if they had left it with Ruth's episode and the "I quit" moment at the end. For me the finale would have made a better opener than closer. Just me. :)

Justice was very inconsistent back then in the Western Territories. Precedent and equal justice for all wasn't really a thing at that time.

I am thinking the same, the guy Cullen found dead and the guy that had the nail in his neck looked like they had been attacked, I mean if they were wanting to commit suicide surely they'd have just shot themselves.

Exactly how it felt to me, like a season opener not a season finale.

Not a bad ending, but not a great one either. I'm excited to see Bohannan and The Swede finally come to head after all this time. It was neat hearing Durrant called Cullen by his first name. I also really liked seeing Eva level up at the end there.

As a whole season, I don't feel like it had all that much impact. The governor was a cool villain but Sydney Snow, while entertaining, seemed almost too cartoonish at times -especially his introductory scene. The Bear Killer episode still seems like a waste of a whole episode, although I had no problem with Elam being killed off -mostly due to Anson Mounts performance. Ruth's death was tragic, but I'm left wondering about her reasoning. When the townsfolk showed up with their candle light vigil, I was certain she would change her tune.

Still, it was a neat twist having Bohannan hook up with the competition at the end there.

I like the season finale. It did set up the next season quite well.

I don't think Cullen should have made that deal, saying that he is going stay until he finds his wife, whether it be a week or a month; now the guy will string Cullen along, and put minimal effort into helping Cullen find his wife, to keep his business running…...

I finally caught up with this season...damn, hated to see Ruth and Ezra die. I laughed my ass off when she shot Snow....then couldn't believe what I was seeing when they arrested her for killing a crazy child killer.

Side note...Christopher Heyerdahl and Tom Noonan need to make a movie where they play deuling psychos.

We're back!

What a heck of a start to the season. If this first episode is any indication, I think season 5 is going to be kookoo bananas! Cool to see they're putting some focus on the Chinese workers, and it was neat to get another mention of Andersonville.

Bohanon spinning for his gun when The Swede showed up at his door was great. I loved listening to The Swede's new perspective, he's always got something new and crazy to spout about.

Now we have a must see Saturday night show. I'm pretty sure this is a final season. Bohannon needs to spinoff into a sequel. Anson was born for this role.

He could have been Rhett Butler
