The other side of the coin from @LibidoLoca's thread that we will turn into a Social Democracy.

Nah, my money is on neofascist authoritarian dictatorship.

But it doesn't roll off the tongue. I mean we wouldn't be a Social Democracy, but a Social Constitutional Republic.

I think all democracies will inevitably become an autocracy/monarchy given enough time. Democracy breeds indifference and ignorance and chaos. Which leads to a longing for structure and stability provided by a strong and unchanging leader. In turn given enough time the monarchy will swing back to democracy.

IMO, it's more likely now than it was a few years ago. The real question is whether or not Trump was a bump in the road (one can only hope) or is this a trend. My take is that it's a bump. A large minority of people either supported Trump or decided to roll the dice. A major portion of the latter, I think, don't like the chaos. Generally, the US has been moving (slowly) in the right direction and I think that will continue.

I feel like some of this stuff is a self-fulfilling prophecy. I sense people giving up because Trump is Trump and "it's inevitable". But I feel the majority of Americans will fight back eventually.

Though I'm not sure why most white people aren't terrified at the prospect of neofascism considering it will be a morally corrupt police state that will subjugate everyone, not just minorities but I think our media and the public school system dropped the ball big time.

Just as an example, the history channel used to be nonstop Holocaust and WW2 documentaries. Now it's just alien stuff. It should be no surprise that fringe beliefs that were once reserved for neonazis like Holocaust denial have gained in popularity.

Either way we should never give up. There are alot of good people out here who deserve better than Dear Leader Trump and a fascist police state.

Autocracy and fascism are forms of governments that we’ve always flirted with. Woodrow Wilson promoted the KKK. Corporate leaders wanted to overthrow FDR in the 30s and install a fascist government. The Red Scare and protection of segregation in the 50s had elements of fascism as well. Japanese Americans and Native Americans were either put into camps or reservations, with native women being sterilized up to the 70s. Now we have Hispanic immigrant women being held in detention camps and being forcibly sterilized. GWB joked that dictatorship would be a lot easier, as long as he was the dictator. I don’t think he meant that, he was just being stupid W. Trump of course is much more serious about several terms in office and waiting to see what happens in the election.

The system only works if citizens and people in power care and pay attention. Sometimes the people care and sometimes not (WW2 camps, Jim Crow, reservations) but so far we haven’t fallen over the edge. We are in a lot of danger right now but nothing is carved in stone. The good news is the military leaders say they will not support Trump if he refuses to leave if he loses the election.
