Maybe this should be a poll, but I don't know. Anyway, why is it okay for kids to see violence in movies...but not nudity or sex scenes in a R-rated movie? I think it's because violence is real. We will all see gore, blood, and violent things in our life. Sex is something...well, between two people that usually love each other.

What do you think is the reason why parents feel it's okay their teen or kid to see a violent action, action/horror, crime, or horror movie?

theyll see it sooner or later.

my parents let me rent whatever movie i wanted when i was little (9ish), besides porn. :csad:
i remember renting Elvira weekly. and Childs Play, Critters, Basketcase?, The Exorcist, other horror movies/rated R.

If you don't see it when you're young then you will have been too sheltered when you do see it... another thing is the rating system allows it to be that way so the box office receipts can be greater due to the amount of younger people that will either pressure their parents into taking them or simply by finding someone who will take them anyway

:yay: is that sad face from not being able to watch porn or watching Elvira weekly?

The reason is obvious.
Parents are ashamed of sex because they're ashamed of their bodies.

When Dad sees a shirtless, ripped Brad Pitt on a screen, it undermines his masculinity, and when Mom sees a buxom starlet in full body make-up, grinding on some dude, it undermines her femininity.

The Father and Mother see the child as a token of their sexuality, which vindicates their sexuality.
Subconsciously, they don't want the token of their egocentric false sense of sexual power to be bruised by the sight of sexual superiors.

Also, when children come into play, Mothers are ashamed because the bond they feel with their children is so strong that it almost crosses over into sexual attraction.
This is because,

1) All people are narcissistic and they usually only have sex with people to whom they're sexually attracted, so when they procreate, the result is a little genetic "perfect blend" of themselves, and their sexually attractive mate.

2) the intense intimacy of carrying that subconsciously sexually attractive being inside your body, and then having it suck on your swelling breasts (which gives you a sense of importance (all physical stimulation aside) drives mothers insane.

So, because parents honestly love their children, their subconscious sexual attraction to their children must be completely mentally shut out.
Since they consciously know that they are sexual beings, the only option is to attempt to de-sexualize their offspring.

No normal parent is afraid that their child might enjoy cutting off Jango Fett's head, but they're terrified that their child might become sexually aroused.

Porn isn't respectful to people. I wouldn't let a young child watch porn because it is too unrealistic and too ridiculous. However, other movies with nudity will be permitted if the nudity is in good taste. Your body is a natural thing you should not be ashamed of. At the same time I will try my best to limit the amount of violence my son is exposed too. I know I'm fighting a losing battle with that one because my husband likes violent movies/shows and doesn't like changing the channel for anyone else.

I dunno about straight up violence, I try and minimize the exposure for my kids (except for fantasy violence, like LOTR and Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc.)

But I grew up on horror movies, like monsters, aliens, Nightmare on Elm St stuff. My son seems to really be getting ito that stuff, and I'm cool with it.

But ya, sex on screen and especially really foul language, I don't want my kids exposed to that crap until they're at least in their teens...

Uh, yeah....and Teletubbies, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Bugs Bunny cartoons are S00PER realistic and not ridiculous at all...yEh.

The lack of realism is NOT the reason you wouldn't want your kids to see porn.

Also, what is "tasteful nudity"?
Is there something "distasteful" about two people enjoying eachother sexually?

sex is private and shouldn't be seen by anyone but the two people involved. anything else is deviant.

Violence, however, is a form of conflict, and conflict is part of practically every story.

No, it's just distasteful in porn movies because there really is no lead up to the relationship. They just get it on.

Examples of "tasteful" nudity (I had to check wikipedia for some ideas, because I honestly don't remember which movies I've watched that did or did not have scenes of nudity in them)

The Man Who Fell to Earth 1976
Terminator 1984
Titanic 1997

There are others, but as I said, I can't remember the movies off hand.

My favorite scene in Man Who Fell To Earth is when David Bowie flips over a tray of cookies in slow motion.
But anyway, so are you saying that if you went to a 3 hour long movie, where a man and a woman were depicted as dating and falling in love, going through good times and bad times, for two hours and forty minutes, and then at the end of the movie, they took off all of their clothes and had real sex, in several positions, for 20 minutes, you wouldn't feel uncomfortable at all watching it while sitting next to your child?

I don't believe you, if that's what you're saying.

I just think American parents plus religion are scare to expose their children to sex. Killing is a lil easier to swallow then explaining sex.

lol, no. Best Mom ever would let you watch the 20 minute sex scene AND the people having their eyes gouged out and being burned alive and losing limbs, etc. :)
