Americans, I have some questions.

This interests me... Skill of the pitcher. As the ball does not bounce the type of ball is limited. No reading of the pitch. Off spin or on spin at the bounce is available. It means the choicees for the batter are limited. The shape of the bat is also restrictive to the type of stroke played, isn't it.

Pitchers have many pitches to chose from, fast ball, curve ball, off speed, etc. The skill of the pitcher is a huge component of baseball. A batter has to "read" the pitch and swing accordingly within a split second. Also the pitcher has a limited area in which to place the pitch for a strike, but doesn't always want to throw it there, since it's the easiest area for a batter to get a hit. It's a lot different than cricket.

Pitching seems like an art sometime.....the proper spin and force...you can make that ball do whatever you want it to

rI emember a tale of one Ian Botham, a cricketeer of some fame being taken to "have a go" at baseball, at a mahor league club in the eighties. The pitcher lobbed him a nice slow ball and Ian clubbed it out of the park, next ball a little quicker, same result a few balls later the pitcher is throwing everything at him his full bag of tricks and still the ball is being despatched to all corners. "Easy game that!" pronounces Mr. Botham as he retires leaving an exasperated pitcher in his wake!
Not sure how true that is, I seem to remember reading it in our (ever reliable) press! I think it does prove that if you have the incredible hand to eye coordination of an Ian Botham – who it should be noted also played professional football for S****horpe and was a scratch golfer – you can pretty much excel at any such sport!

But these special guys, have the special Olympics, it can't be safe them competing with everyone. I don't care if the "Waterboy" was based on a true story. It's just wrong!!!!!!!
special teams do not mean players with injuries or anything like that..... the people who kickoff, kick feild goals, PATS and punts are called special teams. they are called special because these events usally take up only around average of 20% of a football game. they work in specialized situations so they are called special.
then again most specil team players are more encentric then most, but then again other then being a QB its the most dangerous position on the gridiron.

Bowlers have many balls to choose from; pace, out-swing, in-swing, off cutters, leg cutterr, the slower ball (...or off breaks or an arm ball, or leg spinner, flipper, wrong-un...), etc. The skill of the bowler is a huge component of cricket. A batsman has to "read" the pitch and swing accordingly within a split second. Also the bowler has a limited area in which to pitch the ball for a wicket, but doesn't always want to throw it there...

Hmm...

The last 5 days I seem to have developed a massive hole in my memory in regards to some odd game called "cricket"...

it has knocked people out, broken hands, dislodged teeth, take one in the head at about 92 mph and youre looking at a concussion

It's getting pathetic... To the point where we need to bust Warnie out of retirement and make vast breakthroughs in the world of spinal sports injuries to get my cousin out there to scare hell out of you Poms...

Sadly he's had to give the test version of the game away, due to recurring back issues. Only good for 20/20 stuff now where he can wreak havoc in 4 overs and be done with it.
