MTV reviving Randy Jackson's 'America's Best Dance Crew'

His long-running American Idol gig may have ended, but Randy Jackson’s other competition reality series is coming back: America’s Best Dance Crew is returning to MTV. The network canceled the series three years ago after a successful seven-season run.


Only this time, there will be a new judges panel and some familiar talent. Dance Crew will feature top dance teams returning from previous seasons of the show along and a new judges table. Neither the teams nor the judges have yet been announced, but expect six new episodes to air sometime this summer. Executive producers include Jackson, Rob Lee and Howard and Karen Schwartz.

'America's Best Dance Crew' MTV Season 8 Release Date: New Season Confirmed for This Summer

After more than two years since the last episode of "America's Best Dance Crew" aired, MTV is announcing the return of Randy Jackson's reality dance competition for another season.


During the weekend at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, MTV programming president Susanne Daniels announced that ABDC would once again return on TV for its eighth season.


The returning series will be comprised with six episodes and will kick off "in the summer," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show will also feature new members for its judge's panel and some familiar faces on the talent side.


Daniels went on to say that winning dance crews from previous seasons will also return for its new season. Winners of the first seven seasons are the Jabbawockeez, Super Cr3w, Quest Crew, We Are Heroes, Poreotix, IamMe and the Elektrolytes.


Hip Hop International creators and executive producers Howard and Karen Schwartz said they are thankful to MTV for bringing back the show.


"We so appreciate MTV's decision to bring back America's Best Dance Crew for an 8th season. 'ABDC' is more than a TV show. It's a real life inspiration for millions of youthful followers," they told The LA Times.


Howard and Karen Schwartz along with longtime "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and Rob Lee of Bayonne Entertainment exec produce the show.


The series features dance crews from all over the country competing for a $100,000 grand prize as well as the chance to be called "America's Best Dance Crew."

We bid farewell to “America’s Best Dance Crew” back in 2012, when MTV canceled the show after just seven glorious seasons. But this Saturday, the network announced that “ABDC” will rise from the ashes for an eighth season this summer. Hip-hop #nerdz rejoice!
After all, it’s the show that introduced us to the JabbaWockeeZ (and, of course, Little Babywockee)…
…Super Cr3w…

…Quest Crew…

…We Are Heroes…

…Poreotics…

…I aM Me…
…and the Elektrolytes.

They haven’t released too many details yet, but here’s what we know: There will be at least six episodes, and the judges panel will feature all-new experts. But the best part? Oh snap, you guys! At MTV’s upfront ceremony, the net confirmed that it’s bringing back the dance-tactic series, ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’– and you won’t believe who is on board to judge!

Heck. Yes. MTV has basically made all our mid-2000s dreams come true: the net has announced that it will revive its dance competition series America’s Best Dance Crew! The Randy Jackson-produced series originally aired from 2008-2012, and garnered itself a ton of fans. Now this summer, on July 29, the series will return, for a new edition called America’s Best Dance Crew: Road to the VMAs. Better yet, the revived series will feature an all star judging panel including Frankie Grande, T-Pain, and recording artist Teyana Taylor!

MTV has just confirmed that it will revive America’s Best Dance Crew, the dancing competition series that ran for four years and seven seasons. That’s not even the best news, though! Along with the show’s return, MTV also announced that joining the series as judges would be Frankie Grande, as well as T-Pain and Teyana Taylor. Entertainment Tonight‘s Jason Dundas will host the competition.
For those who don’t recall, the series features several dance crews, in an American Idol-style elimination series, all competing for a $100,000 grand prize. Notable winners include the dance crew the JabbaWockeeZ, who, after winning, went on to tour the world and continue to perform to this day.

On the upcoming “America’s Best Dance Crew” installment — formally known as “America’s Best Dance Crew All Stars: Road to the VMAs” — contestants vying for the top prize will have the opportunity to cement their place in the show’s lasting legacy and nab a very unique double. Four words: They better bring it.

When the hit series returns to MTV on Wednesday, July 29, six all-star dance crews — including five previous #1 finishers — will bring their talents to the stage to battle for dance supremacy. That’s right: Dream match-ups will unfold as representatives from different seasons clash and teams compete in the ultimate showdown to see who is the best of the best. Who’s ready to see some unparalleled moves and routines?
Six (it’s the lucky number!) all-new “Video Music Award”–themed episodes will air, with the crews creating routines inspired by “VMA”-related elements and challenges.   The Season 2 crew hails from Sin City and is comprised of three well-known b-boy crews: Battle Monkees, Full Force and Knucklehead Zoo. Following its 2008 “ABDC” appearance, Super Cr3W has opened three dance studios, including one in Las Vegas. In addition, members have appeared in numerous movies such as “Battle of the Year,” “Planet Bboy” and “Honey 2″ — plus commercials for “Pepsi Smash.” Following a personal invitation from First Lady Michelle Obama, Super Cr3w became the only hip-hop crew to showcase at the White House (very impressive!). They have also appeared in music videos and toured with Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Paul McCartney, Missy Elliott, Christina Aguilera and J.LO. The crew also recently headlined as the principal cast alongside their brothers the Jabbawockeez to open their Las Vegas shows “MUS.I.C” and “Prism.”

  The first and only female crew to win the “ABDC” title, We Are Heroes prides itself on its diversity (the seven gals come from all different parts of the world). After nabbing the Season 4 title, the girls embarked on a whirlwind trip of appearances and performances around the globe. They appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres” show three times, were featured on “Oprah” and performed alongside artists such as Justin Bieber and Rihanna. In the past couple of years, the group went their separate ways to pursue solo opportunities in different facets. But once the girls heard about the show making a comeback, they were ecstatic to get the crew back together — with new members and new tricks.

  I.aM.mE refers to its unique dance style as “brain banging,” a series of connections and large-scale visuals that create shapes and puzzles with the human body. This innovative style not only won over the judges and viewers in season six, but it opened doors for the Houston-based crew to spread their style and knowledge of dance with fans across the globe. Since we last saw ’em on this network, the crew has gone of to have individual careers as dancers and choreographers — even appearing alongside artists such as Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift. Fans will also recognize some familiar faces this time around as members from past crews 8 Flavahz and Phunk Phenomenon have joined up once again take on the competition.

Since walking away as the gold medalists, these eight friends toured coast to coast as well as internationally, thrilling admirers with their dynamic stunts, intricate choreography and trademark high energy. The gang has also performed at the Latin Grammys and continues to be the driving force of the thriving Arizona hip-hop community. They call themselves Elektrolytes because dance fuels their body, and they are ready to take America by storm once again!

  Making their “ABDC” debut, the Kinjaz are comprised of former team leaders who used to compete against each other. Members hail from many reputable California dance companies including top “ABDC” crews such as the Jabbawockeez (season one champions) and Kaba Modern (season one contenders). With their intricate choreography and creative storytelling, the Kinjaz plan to show what it takes to compete against some of the top crews in “ABDC” history.
