Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi'

Finally saw this and I thought it was amazing. This is my most favorite movie of 2012 so far.

Pretty amazing film indeed. Some images are so powerful. One of my favorites was Richard Parker swimming toward the kid and also looking at him from under the water. Anyway, too many beautiful moments to mention them all.

Funny to see Gerard Depardieu in this as the French cook.

I actually hadn't seen anything on this movie until I saw the trailer with Skyfall, it looks visually stunning and I'm hoping I get a chance to catch it on the big screen.

You should really check it out Hunter.

Wow.

That was one of the most incredible cinema experiances of my life :)

I'm not a particularly spiritual person, but I found the fact that it didn't shove one specific religion in your face, and was not trying to force any spiritual stuff down your throat, meant the religious parts didn't bring the movie down at all... they were just a part of Pi, and added to him being such a loveable character.

Visually, obviously it was out of this world. I was expecting that. I wasn't expecting it to be quite so emotionally effective. I really feel Lee deserves an oscar nom for direction here... he managed to make me care from the first to the last second, and never once feel it was dragging on boring. I cried... a lot :p

I also want to note, that it has completely saved my opinion on 3D.

After seeing The Hobbit in 48fps I really got put off. But THAT is how you make good use of 3D! :)

Glad you loved it, now you see why I've been raving about it. :oldrazz:

It's a shame this got lost in the shuffle of BP contenders. In my perfect world, this would win Best Picture.

I love Life of Pi, and it should really win BP, but when I look at this year's roster of (potential) BP nominees, there isn't really one I would be upset to see win. The only one I really don't like is The Master, but thankfully it's not up for a Golden Globe, which dims its Oscar chances.

Les Miserables has enough flaws to make it not a shoo-in for Oscar BP than was initially thought. Lincoln is good, but kind of boring (this year's Frost Nixon), and Moonrise Kingdom is great but maybe too quirky. I think Life of Pi really has a good chance, its most serious competition being Argo, which is a very good all-around film.

Was supposed to be waiting to see it with a friend... couldn't wait any longer. Not gonna tell her, just gonna go see it with her and pretend it's all new to me too :p I imagine it'll have me weeping just as much on second viewing :funny:

Just came back from this. This film was incredible and I'm ashamed to admit that it got me feeling incredibly emotional, particularly due to tge relationship dynamic between Pi and Richard Parker. The cinematography, 3d and all that jazz were just breath taking. It's a beautiful film in every way imaginable. Ang Lee definitely should win best director and the film BP.

I am a happy camper. This film has a real chance to win BP now, its main competition being Lincoln and Amour (the latter running the risk of splitting the "art house" vote).

If nothing else, Life of Pi better win for best special effects.

I'd prefer cinematography over effects, but obviously rooting for either BP or Director.

wow just listened to some of score wow it is beautiful is score that good?

Very pleased with the nominations the film accumulates. From the first frame to the last, Life of Pi is a visual spectacle. It's a thrilling and immersive experience that does justice to the book. Ang Lee was the right choice to helm this film.

Finally saw it this week.

A stunning masterpiece that knocked me for a loop. I am still digesting it. That is all.

I saw this during winter vacation with my sisters. Let me just say: beautiful doesn't even cover it. I haven't been able to stop thinking of this movie ever since I saw it in the theater. I have a feeling when it comes to the end of this decade Life of Pi will remain in my top 10. It was easily the best of 2012.

Also, I'm really glad to see Ang Lee get a directing nomination. I think he is such an underrated director at times. To me he is a genius.

This should be an easy lock for visual effects but it'll get upset by some.movie that doesn't deserve it at all like The Avengers or The Hobbit. Like how Rise of the Planet of the Apes lost last year.

Yea especially when it should have been TF3 winning that year:cwink:

The academy will give it to Pi over the blockbusters for the same reason they gave it to Hugo. It's nominated for best picture and directed by one of their own.

So glad to see a lot of guys coming in and giving this movie love recently. Can say it was easily the best picture I saw in 2012, and I hope its lack of a well-known lead actor doesn't hurt it in the category.

Honestly it should win for:

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Cinematography
Best Adapted Screenplay

And maybe some others I forgot. Truly the most breathtaking and emotionally resonating film i've seen in years.
