Happy Halloween. If you want a real scare you should be in my office during annual performance appraisal time. Employees sucking up and managers dishing out work. The whole place bitting nails over how much of a raise they'll get, if they get anything at all! Scary might not be the exact word, but certainly panicked.

Here's my problem. I've got an entire team that relies on me to fill out their annual performance appraisals, but this takes lots of time and isn't very fun. I don't enjoy doing it.

So my question is if I were doing your APA would you rather get a meanigless and yet mediocre score they will ensure a healthy, but not too healthy raise, or would you rather me actually spend the time to look into your performance and risk not getting a raise at all?

I know my work kicks ass, so I'd tell you to actually spend the time on my performance.

I would like an honest appraisel. It's your job to spend time on this, be the example.

How would you like it if one of your employees decided to take the easy way out of work?

You're both right. Morally, ethically, and all ways otherwise.

I guess I'll buck up and get my job done.

I had my 3-month appraisal yesterday. I am now officially a permanent member of staff.

Was just a formality but still nice to know.

*unbuckles belt, breaths out, ahhhhhhh*

Hah I get to do my appraisal of my employees in a meeting and then make recomendations I discuss and agree with in my Board.

However, I remember working for Citigroup and having appraisals to do and you know what I feel for you. Especially where you have to write explanations.
