When Batman Begins came out, I thought the costume/cowl were pretty decent, not too far off from what it was in the older films, but far enough to distinguish it from them. My only real complaint with the cowl, I guess, was just the shape of the mouth part. It's a little weird, but just the same, not too bothersome.

The real point of this thread is that I recently viewed (parts of) TDK (after a year of not seeing the film at all), and since it actually starts with the BB costume and then goes into the "new" costume/cowl, I had a much fresher outlook on it all. I think I pretty much hate the new costume and cowl. Since the neck part is no longer part of the cowl it seems, he appears to be a pencil neck. He appears more fragile and weaker. The cowl itself I find rather silly looking really, especially around the mouth part. Now this all may also be in contrast with Bale's thinner body and face as well. The whole scene with Bats and Joker in the interrogation room, I think Batman just looks kind of silly. Then again, I guess if you look at it too hard, he's going to look silly no matter what because it's a guy in a freaking bat costume, but just the same...

I don't ever remember thinking to myself "He looks kind of silly and/or stupid" when watching the Keaton films, or even the Kilmer film. I mean, even now, I don't think either of them looked silly in their films. TDK however, I just can't escape the thought.

You are not alone. The slimmer neck is not the problem, it's the oddly shaped cowl which makes his head look like a lightbulb from certain angles.

The cowl looked horrible in BB and TDK.The BR and BF(panther suit)cowls were so much better.I'd rather have an aesthetically pleasing cowl than a practical one.I don't give a damn if Bale is able to turn his head,I want him to look like Batman

well I'm glad Im not the only one. and amen to that batman 1989, I agree!

I think that perhaps a leather cape & cowl combo could work.something like this(just look at the cowl, ignore the bodysuit)

The disconnecting of the cowl and the neck does make Batman's neck look somewhat skinny, but it does give him far more mobility and makes him look much more capable at combat when he doesn't have to turn his entire torso to look to his side like in almost every movie before it, so I do think the pros outweigh the cons.

yeah but it's a movie, not a real "crime fighter" so I think the crappier-costume-for-mobility idea is a stupid one.

I think that the fight scenes sucked nonetheless,so why can't we just stick to a good-looking cowl?a leather cowl or one like the one seen in AA (with shorter ears of course)would be much better.

My fave costume is actually the one in Dead End. Simple and badass looking, and very mobile. If theyre so concerned about "body armor" they can merely say he has some underneath the costume. Besides I never understood the whole body armor thing anyways, Batman doesnt wear that crap in the comics, he's supposed to rely on stealth and tactics to avoid all that mess... which Begins was actually showcasing for the most part.

Exactly.I liked BB,but Nolan doesn't have the balls to create a visual break between the old saga and the one he's doing right now:I mean,he copied Burton's suits and when he tried something a bit different, here comes Robobat!we just need somebody who understands that in a comic book movie you can use something called suspension of disbelief, that can make us believe that a smart and highly trained man can wear a suit like the one seen in spider-man or fantastic four and use his skills and agility to avoid danger

Exactly, it works for Spidey and Daredevil, and even Superman got shot up yet his suit had no tears in it!

I think that for a really visionary visual approach for the batsuit we have to wait after Nolan's trilogy is done, sadly
