Another Person Shot While Looking for Help

I don't think you need to be scared to shoot someone, but it does help when it comes time to shooting.

The thing is...without knowing all the details you can easily supplement yourself in place of the homeowner and come up with your own scenarios. That is easy, but unless it is YOU in that scenario you can't really say what and how you would do things. I just don't see that because unless you are truly a trained professional with muscle memory on how these things might play out then you can be capable of anything...especially when you are scared.

I think it's possible both parties were scared in this case. It's late. It's dark. It's scary... Things happen, but unless you train for this on a 24/7 basis then what you will do is always an unknown.

For me I can see this from being scared inside my home...it's not a good feeling not being sure what's going on outside.

Either way, that dudes going to trial.

Hopefully the prosecutor doesn't over charge like them idiots in Florida.

I have only read what I have read here, but this just seems....lacking in details. Let's hope at 2:30am this woman wasn't drunk. Plus, if she crashed her car, where was the other victim? Was it a solo crash? I'm not saying that it couldn't have been something benign, but really...there is more to this story.

Unless she had a weapon, there is no reason to SHOOT A PERSON IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WITH A SHOTGUN!

I don't care if she's drunk. I don't care is she's ranting about how all her crack got burnt up when the car exploded. I don't care if she's monologing about how when she gets back to her lair she's going to arm her Doomsday device and blow this miserable mudball to kingdom come. It's still an overreaction. You can see it from the murderers(Or at the very least....Manslaughterer) POV all you want. Hopefully you also see it from the POV of Tiny and Bubba when they have their way with him in the prison shower room. :o

smh...really? Tiny and Bubba? Goodness....

I don't see enough details here to see murder. Back of the head with a shot gun. This person could have been aiming for her backside with shotgun and shot her whole damn backside off. It was a friggin shot gun!!! which is why I'm skeptical on saying it was a deliberate aim for the back of the head, or some nefarious scheme to murder an innocent woman who just cried for help.

On the other hand, I do feel perhaps this person should have practiced better ORM and stayed in her car inside of knocking on the door at 2:30, which is just not a good hour. I just feel like this might not be cold-blooded murder, but folks get bent out of shape and then get silly with it. Le sigh....

...if you aim a shotgun at somebody, and fire...what exactly is the expected outcome?

Death or somebody becoming a paraplegic.

How about Earl and Smoochy?

Are these Oz references? ...lol

For all these people defending the actions of the knocker. My question is it's 2:30am and you just crashed your car and you have no cell phone.

What do you do?

I for one can say unless I am drunk, high, or not in my right mind, I DO NOT go knocking on doors at 2:30am.

Well if I was injured and hand no other option I would knock on doors and tell them to call 911

This case seems pretty obvious as to who was in the wrong. Unless the police find some kind of weapon on the girl or they find the shooter's 911 call with evidence that the girl was acting strangely/threatening in some manner, there was zero cause for the guy to not seek other options than his gun.

That's the entire problem with America's mindset these days: shoot first, think later.

It's weird...the thought of knocking doesn't even come to my mind. I have a car with an alarm. I don't know if this person did, but I would set my car alarm off by opening the door when the alarm is on. I would make people come to me. I would not go into an area I am not sure of when I am injured...but I guess that's just me.

I also have a charger in my car for my phone, so....

Why would you shoot someone as they are leaving? Why even open the door at all?

I was in a similar situation once. I was driving back to school on a desolate stretch of interstate. I ran low on gas, and made several stops in an effort to refill. Station after station was closed. I eventually ran out, and this was prior to the proliferation of cell phones. I found a pay phone, but it wasn't working. It was late December, and several inches of snow was on the ground. I have a high tolerance for cold weather, but I didn't think it was a good idea to sit in freezing temps until a cop happened to come along or wait 6-7 hours until morning.

I finally found and house and knocked. Luckily, they were the kind of people who actually used reason instead of a Cletus Mcshootsyaface type. I explained my situation through the door and asked if they could call 911 for me. Instead, the father of the family took me to a 24/7 gas station, then back to my car, where I refilled it from the canister I had.

I can only hope that if my child is in this situation some day, they come across a civilized person and not a gun happy troglodyte.

If your in a car accident with no phone then obviously your going to knock on someone's door and ask for help or to use their phone.

I don't know any sane person who say let me just sit in my wrecked car and not seek medical assistance or any kind of help what so ever.

Agreed with 200%
I can't believe anyone on this thread is seriously defending this guy.

He shot her in the BACK of the f**king head people! That means she was either already leaving his property or had been told to get away and was doing so.

There is ZERO justification for what the home owner did. And he needs to be punished to the full extent which the law allows.

Update on the case so far:

Prosecutors are seeking more information from police before deciding whether to charge a man who fatally shot a woman on the porch of a suburban Detroit home.

The Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press report 19-year-old Renisha McBride of Detroit was killed by a shotgun blast in Dearborn Heights early Saturday. Her family says she likely approached the home to seek help after getting into a car accident.

Police say they've identified the person who shot her and requested a warrant in the case. The Wayne County prosecutor's office says it sent the request back to police Wednesday for additional investigation before making a charging decision.

"We have asked that further investigation be conducted by the police in this case," the prosecutor's office said in a press release. "We will not be able to make a charging decision until the requested work has been completed."

McBride's aunt Bernita Spinks is acting as family spokeswoman. She says the family wants justice. A vigil was held Wednesday at the home.

Twitter reacted with outrage to McBride's death, with some already comparing her death to the Trayvon Martin case in Florida.

I'm really struggling to find how you can feel justified in shooting an unarmed teenager in the back of the head who was leaving after knocking on your door.

There is I'm sure a very convoluted and convincing movie-story explanation but this is reality. You don't shoot people for knocking on your door because you feel scared.

I'm still unable to be convinced this is in any way justified.

lol...like I said...best be on the run from a serial killer because knocking on my door at 2:30 better be a circumstance of life or death.

With the the possibility of either you or that trigger happy gun owner being on the other side of the door, I guess I would take my chances with the serial killer. If knocking at 2:30 in the morning is an ill advised idea, it wouldn't be any smarter to pound down the door, because I fear for my life, as some Axe wielding maniac is after me. That only gets you more spooked, and more likely to get me killed by being blasted through the door.

Theres NOTHING in the details released that can even come close to justifying shooting this young woman in the back of the head with a shotgun outside of the murderer's home.

i would just have one of my white friends knock. that should solve everything. hell, maybe they can scream "there are black people chasing me."

I live not far from where this happened. people around here are pissed, as they very well should be. there is absolutely zero evidence to show any sort of shooting was justified. a defenseless person seeking help does not give anyone reason to shoot them.

but for anyone that wants to go on imaginary speculative conquests in an embarassing attempt to justify the shooter. here's a bit of info that wasnt in the articles posted in this thread: after shooting this girl in the back of the head, the shooter did not call the cops. the girl was left there where she was found the next day.
