I've been thinking of getting back into the habit of drawing/doodling. I still have all my comic drawings that I kept in a folder, and now I've been itching to use the digital medium in a bigger way.

I've recently acquired a graphics tablet and a good version of Photoshop and Corel Draw to get me started on drawing through the digital medium.

I barely know how to use the layering tool on Photoshop, so I guess I should start with learning how to use those first.

Any advice from some other artists?

i used to always doodle ghost rider in middle school till like last year, i have the long colage i made of all the jhonny blaze ghost riders i drew.

Im trying to doodle more often so I can get the hang of it. I don't know how to use Photoshop at all..I'm just fiddling around with the features trying to make something. I wish I knew how to color like the pros, or better yet, DRAW like the pros :woot:

Anyways heres my first test pic:

you should try to get illustrator if your gonna make things from scratch as opposed to photoshop. i feel illustrter is more user friendly when it comes to that kinda stuff.

I've used illustrator to make ads and flyers, but not drawing. Actually I ordered Corel Draw X so that will probably help me out a bit.

I still need to learn how to work with layers.

Layering takes practice. Lots of it. I think it's all a matter of feel, of comfort. I try to work multiple sections of a drawing in the same layer, but no more than 3 or 4, unless really small. I know someone who created a drawing and each little bit of shadow and color had a layer, leading to over 1000 of them.

Yeah I'm trying to get the hang of it. I'm working on another GR Skull but this time I'm using layers.

It was a disaster a few times.

I'd try to add a layer of fire but for some stupid reason it would leave out the colored skull and instead have the penciled skull there instead. When I'd try to color it in, it wouldn't let me. It's a pain in the ass to use.

Right now I'm creating a layer for every single modification I do. I think I'm on layer 5 or 6 though right now I'm working on coloring the skull.

Its based off the last page of issue 15 in the new series. The fire effects aren't as easy to do in Corel Draw X than they were in Photoshop.

Does anybody have any idea how to do some fire effects on Corel Draw X?

Alright here is my 2nd attempt at digital drawing. I used the last page on Issue 15 of the new series because that picture was so awesome. I just penciled it on my PC then used Corel Draw to paint it. I tried the layering effects and for some stupid reason on Corel it wouldn't let me merge or blend the flames and the skull correctly without it taking forever (ie. erasing one layer to get to the other..and I couldn't get it to fade correctly either) , instead I copied and pasted it in Photoshop CS3 where it became much more easier. Anyways here is my 2nd attempt at digital drawing:

thats really cool, keep up the work. someone should make a online fan Ghost Rider comic series. like different users here making issues of a continus comic line while someone draws all the pictures to the comic.

I think thats a great idea. But man that would be a ***** to coordinate. One of these days I will attempt doing something like that.

Anyways, in the meantime, enjoy this cool new look for Ghost Rider drawn by Tony Moore (the Cover artist for GR ish #18!)

This is a Tony Moore drawing Penciled by Jesse Munoz:

I love Tony's style how he draws the skull is really provocative. To me it shows Ghost Rider is not always angry..in fact he is a tortured force of nature. Amazing stuff!

oh man that would be soo sick if they ditched the noble kale look for that. they should really give this ghost rider a distinct look from his predecessors.

Now that is a new design I can get behind. Has a nice western edge to it.

After seeing these, I wouldn't mind seeing Moore work on a single issue story for the comic. I'd like to see if he works with the pliable brow skull or if he attempts to show the Rider's emotions using perspective.
