I used to be a big Apple fan (note fan, not fanboy). My first computer was a Mac. My first laptop was an iBook. My first tablet was an iPad, my first smart phone was a – okay you get the point. The brand was always a bit pricy, but you got real quality, and excellent customer service.

Having said that, over the last couple of years, the direction of the company has really gotten on my nerve. The locked down mobile operating system started my annoyance. But since, Apple set the standard for mobile devices, I grudgingly put up with it (on phones at least).

But then came the excessive corner cutting in almost every area. Deliberately underpowered iMacs. Unupgradable Mac Minis and MacBooks with soldered on RAM.

Now there's that oversized, half-assed Surface Pro wannabe iPad that uses a mobile operating system and no ports. Not to mention that ridiculously overpriced and underpowered 12 inch Macbook.

The iPhone seems to be the only thing that still has a spark.

I really think this may be my last Mac.

Have any other fans become disillusioned?

I kind of like my macbook I got from a friend. Not crazy about the whole thing. I've never done more than briefly consider getting anything else from apple though. I never plan to get an Iphone, Itunes or whatever they have.

I've had two apple computers and both were meh at best. They're useful for doing stuff but beyond the basics I'm not interested.

I prefer Android/Windows 7.

I'm done with Apple. Used to be a big fan. But some major things have turned me off of it: 1) iTunes becoming super annoying and not user friendly anymore 2) both of my past macbooks having overheating problems, and the same with my brother's macbook 3) cheap as **** breakable accessories like chargers and headphones which must be replaced repeatedly at a horrific price

Me, it was when they dumped their white elephant Apple II inventory onto public schools.

My macbook charger burned through the cord a year or so back. Apple wanted at least $90 for it. I found a better made 3rd party version for $25 online. Apple skimped on the insulation for the chargers so its a known issue but having a few cents more insulation doesn't make it look as pretty so they didn't bother fixing it ignoring the point of them get $90 for saving a penny on insulation.

How dare you! I'm going to write nasty thoughts about you on my iPad with my Apple Pencil!

Well, I'm not done with Apple and generally like my Apple products, but I must say, iTunes has been annoying me lately. Ever since Apple Music became a thing, my music doesn't transfer right to my iPhone. I've always managed my music manually, and now when I move playlists over from iTunes to my phone, some of the songs don't transfer. I have to select "Make Available Offline," then DOWNLOAD them to my phone from the cloud. For each individual song that didn't transfer. Such a pain.

Everyone knows iTunes is a huge PITA, and has been for a long time now.

I'm a designer, so Macs will always be better than PCs in terms of the way it displays things. (ESPECIALLY fonts!) I use a PC for work and there are certain things about it that annoy the crap out of me, so it's a wash in the end, especially if I have to use Macs anyway.

It does seem like Apple has lost its place as industry leader.

The iPad Pro is obviously a response on the Surface Pro. Problem is Apple doesn't seem to realize what makes the Surface sell. Namely a full-fledged OS on a tablet. Not to mention the fact that it has neither USB support, or microSD. It has incredibly limited utility.

Even with the iPhones it seems to be playing catch up to Samsung.

I refuse to buy a phone that doesn't include a micro USB port. I like my 16 and 32gb sd cards and not having the option in expand the memory annoys me to no end.

I also refuse to buy phones without an microSD slot and a removable battery. I hate that Samsung has moved away from having a removable battery and microSD slot on some of the newer phones.

This.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 and like it,the Galaxy S6 is a step backwards.

As for Apple, said Adieu to them about three years ago.

Samsung pissed me off with that too. I have the Note 4 and that will be the last Samsung phone I'll have unless Samsung adds those back in the future.

I've moved on from the apple ecosystem (not that I'm particularly pissed off with them) but I'll be keeping my iMac alongside my newer pc.

Same here

I have an S5 and I really like it

LG has external storage and removable battery, but too big for me

Z Compact line will also be another option. No removable battery but still has micro SD and is water resistant
Flagship specs for a "small" phone as well
And looks sexy

The only phones with removable batteries and expandable storage are going to be from LG or Microsoft. Everyone else has pretty much abandoned the mentality that batteries can be removed by consumers and only a few who have sealed batteries offer expandable storage (ie Sony and HTC).

This. Ask me 5 years ago and I'd tell you how much I love love love iTunes. Now all it does is make me want to smash my fish through a wall.

In addition to the problems you mentioned, iTunes forces me to log into the store every time I open it. So annoying. No other program does this to me. For some reason it is incapable of remembering that I'm logged in.

I threw in the towel after the IPhone 4 and iPod 3rd generation. I'm happy with my Sony Xperia Z3.

I never even started with Apple. Felt like you were buying the brand and not an actual quality product. Basically Nike for computers.

Currently have the Surface Pro 3 and it's incredible.
Never had a problem with Windows Media Player.
Never had a problem with my LG phone.

Apple people seem like they're in some weird cult or something.

I have no love for Apple products either. Having used them off and on since the 80's I've never found them as useful or superior to PC's (no matter what Mac followers might claim).

I have an iPhone 6 but that came about more as a result of getting one for free as an upgrade back when the 3 was somewhat new and I got "trapped" in the ecosystem with the apps. That and I didn't feel like going through all the transfer stuff to a new phone, reinputting all the contact info, etc.

Every so often when I think of getting a tablet I think about an iPad but so far the cost and lack of need for a tablet has kept temptation at bay.

It really depends on what you want to do. It's basically a laptop unless you're doing crazy ****.

I would probably get a laptop over a tablet depending on price.

What ticks me off a lot is how they are handling hard drives vs. flash drives. They dropped their "Fusion" drive from 128 gigs of flash down to 28 gigs of flash. And they still charge an INSANE amount of money for full flash drives even though the actual cost of flash has been decreasing a lot in recent years.

I'm still puzzled by making their latest MacBook have only one USB-C port that not many manufacturers have made hardware for.
