Anyone else into not drinking?

well I don't remember much about last night beyond the ball dropping

I had sparkling cider and a chunk of chocolate when the ball dropped, listening to More Than A Woman and watching WALL-E. My celebration was small in scale, but I enjoyed it. The fireworks here in Vegas were depressing, though. Ever since the Monte Carlo caught on fire, the city has put up a stupid ordinance that drops the height of which fireworks can be set off by 300 feet. That makes no sense to me, as you figure that would put them at a height where they're a fire hazard, but I'm not Mayor Goodman. Even with the help of camera angles to see it better than those who were actually there, I could barely make out what was happening.

I'm really getting a little chuckle over how demonized the simple act of drinking is in some people's minds. I can understand if you've done it and had bad experiences or just wasn't digging it, but if you've never done it how can you draw so many conclusions? You don't want to? Great, I've not a problem in the world with that. One less person to fight over the last Corona with, but don't wander around with that self-righteous, "Drinkin's teh devil!1" attitude. That just makes you come off as a *****e.

That wasn't directed toward anyone in particular so please withhold the flames. Just something I've noticed over the years.

I've noticed the same attitude among some people who do drink, toward those who don't. "I like to get drunk and therefore I am cooler and better than you." Self-righteous and *****y, indeed.

Oh, so because a few people on the other side of the fence do it that makes it ok?

Besides the fact that both attitudes are garbage, the non-drinking crowd definitely does it more, and a sizable part of that group have no experience with the act to even know firsthand, which is why I made the comment.

Uh...yeah. Whatever. Re-read my post again without the imaginary subtext you put into it. It speaks for itself.

Nnnot really, no. I don't see commercials about peer pressure into not drinking.

The only commercials that seem to stress not doing something are the non-smoking and non-drug ads. Alcohol will never get to that point in this society, ever. They make too much money off that ****.

Obviously, I'm at that age (the age being anywhere from 15-80) where drinking is considered pretty damn awesome, and looked at as being something you should do whenever humanly possible.

That aside, I've never been able to get into it. To me, seeing people drunk is like watching someone inseminate a cow; sure, it's a noble effort, but I could never see getting any enjoyment out of it.

It's not like I'm against drinking, or afraid of it, or have some phobia against it...I just don't particularly see the point of it, and thusly have never gotten into it.Anyone else feel the same way?

i kinda hate the taste of alcohol, so i'm right there with ya. but whenever my roommates want to drink and hang out i've been known to enjoy mixing baileys and chocolate milk, which is the drink of the gods in my opinion.

Baileys is chocolate milk anyway ain't it? :D But yea you are right, it is very nice!

I'm on a alcohol hiatus, for about, errr..............5 days!

Inspired by BattMatt's last post, here's a question:

What kind of drinker are you? I've a friend who's married to a drinker and she said she prefers him drunk because he's more lively when he's drunk. When he's sober, he's quiet and boring but when he's drunk, he's just so much fun! Because of that, she encourages him to drink, drink to a point where he gets drunk, as often as possible.

I think this belongs in teh "women destroy men" thread.

I can either be the intellectual, proper drunk or the crazy dancing party drunk. Depends on the atmosphere and what's called for. I'm also extremely honest, and entirely aware that I can later just blame it on the alcohol. But I'm sure that's a relative thought shared amongst drunkards.
