Anyone else sick of "emotionally manipulative" fanboy defenses?(long rant)

It's the bad and misguided attitude mostly, I think, that annoys me. Not the opinions.

Not at all! I love the passion of fanboys! It's is why I am one of them.

I hear people crapping on day in, day out about football or whatever "cool" people like only for the whole scenario to play out over and over again. I much prefer the thrill of an announcement, a controversy, division, trying to prove you're right on the internet and then finally the thrill of seeing a finished product and discussing it for years with chums both offline and on.

There's so many dreadful things in life. Passion isn't one of them

people are too jaded

if the goonies came out today people will say the story is weak and unrealistic and the film is too cheesy lol

I don't know about that. Plugging your ears and being unwilling to consider other opinions and not allowing your own opinion to change seems like it would just stifle discussion and debate.

For some, ignorance is a way of life.

But as you said, plugging ones ears stubbornly and not considering anyone else's opinions or thoughts (because they can't possibly know anything you don't :o) basically puts you at the same level as a stubborn farm animal.

The point of conversation and debate is not "winning", but learning and considering new ways of looking at/thinking about things.

What did I expect from a ton of fanboys though?

The fact that at this place everyone is "my opinion is right, yours is wrong - in time you will see that and come join me in the dark side." Um, sorry, but better luck next time. Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them wrong or right. Everyone is different thus they like different things. It's really as simple as that. And anyone who tries to ridicule another's opinion to try to make their own have more weight - well, that shows that you don't have that strong of an opinion to begin with.

Also that doesn't mean those who disagree plug their ears - they just believe and have their opinion and to them their opinion rings truer to them than the opinion of someone else. It all comes back to it being subjective.

Four legs good, two legs bad.

My point is that other people can offer alternate takes on something or present a viewpoint that hadn't occurred to you which can be an inrcredibly enriching experience. Sure, it can alter your little opinion for the better or worse, but it's about expanding the way you think about things.

When you say: "I like what I like and nothing else matters because it's all subjective", you are essentially plugging your ears and ignoring (key word: IGNORE as in- being IGNORANT) everything else (be it good or bad) so that you can exist in your own little comfortable world. Kinda sad.

And nobody has yet affected my opinion of anything at all. I listen. That just doesn't mean I agree with them because when I make an opinion, I make strong opinions.

The comical thing about this is -- I will say you are open to having that opinion -- while you will most likely retort that I am still being ignorant.

Which angle is more accepting of others' beliefs? Those who say I have my opinion and you're open to have yours. Or those who say my opinion is right and yours is wrong, which is sad. Frankly I'd say those who accept that everyone has their own opinions is a lot more open to the diversity of the world than those who believe that their opinion is right and must convince others that they are right and the other is wrong. To me that's putting one's ear to the ground. But, again, that is my take and opinion on it and I'm not badgering you to change yours.
