I have to be honest, i was hyped for the system at first, but I've come to realize that i really feel nintendo is being cheap with us.yeah, you get a new controller, i still find it intriguing, but i don't feel satisfied with the console itself. The wii channals are really corny, forecast?news? like i cant use my regular tv channals for that. and the mii channal is pretty lame. features that i certainly can live without us. I've just really become underwelmed with it.
how about you guys?
Don't have any friends?
I think the Wii Channels are a brilliant idea with flawless execution. They allow easy access from the comfort of your own living room couch or bedroom. And if the Opera browser is as good as people have been saying, I doubt I'll use my computer for internet again. I'll have the wealth of the internet blown up on my widescreen TV, and what's more, I'll be able to visit the SHH! to exchange friend codes, organize Nintendo DS matches, organize Wii matches, or generally talk about the Wii in general and zip back to my Wii games in a snap. I won't have to wait for my computer to boot up or wait until my mother, father, sister, or brother are done using the internet.
The weather and news channels are an added bonus that will do more to become the centerpiece of your family and help to attract non-gamers to at least handle the Wii-remote. My parents are extremely technologically-handicapped; it took me several months for me to teach them how to use the search bar. But they've progressed modestly, and they have been able to at least check current events on several news sites. If the Wii News Channel is efficient, I have no doubt they will use it. The Wii Weather Channel is a different story; I live in a mediterranean climate under which the weather doesn't change all that much year-round. But I've been watching videos of the Wii Weather Channel in action, and it looks very impressive; we'll probably keep track of the weather in the towns of our distant relatives in other countries. When I wake up in the morning, I'll take a look at the current news, and later see if my relatives are suffering under the hot Mexican sun. I can see my parents doing the same. And maybe, just maybe, they'll make that jump and play some Wii Sports Golf or Boxing with me. But I think that in order for this to happen, the Wii console will have to be in the living room where the parents of the household can see what's going on.
And the Mii Channel, I think, is extremely fun. Making digital caricatures of your friends, family, and Samuel L. Jackson are a hilarious feature that will no doubt become a hit among Wii console owners. I think you can also personalize the Miis even further by jotting down a profile (this will no doubt be handy in trying to store all the friend codes of your rivals*) And I become giddy when I think about waking up in the morning and finding a a new Mii mingling with my other Miis. Maybe it was the person I played online last night! You can also transfer your Miis onto your Wii-remote and take them over to your friend's house and populate his lobby with your Mii. And of course, the Miis can also populate you're games.
The Wii Message Board Channel is the one with the most possibilities in my opinion. But there hasn't been much information on it yet.
These Wii Channels are further testament to Nintendo's philosophy of innovation and "bringing gaming back to the masses." You know, it's really easy for me to ask someone to play some Mario Kart, Mario Party, or Super Smash Brothers with me, even if that person has never played a game before. This is not the case with other consoles. The interface and concept of the game is too intimidating for the casual or non-gamer. I can't ask them to play some Halo with me because it turns them off.
So am I satisified with the Wii? Absolutely.
*It has been recently reported that the Wii online system will utilize friend codes, but players will have a universal friend code that will not change from game to game.
