I'm setting up an ebay account to buy stuff and was wondering about the paypal...anyone here use it? What do I need to set it up? Does it cost anything to set up? Better to use it or not? etc etc..

Thanks :)

i use it , doesnt cost anything . i have never had any problems with it . i get occasional phishing emails from a fake paypal but thats neither here nor there.

I hate it.
I let my account expire....twice.

I heard about the phishing and thats my main concern. Is it easy to tell those fake emails or what?

The phishing emails are easy to spot. You can tell the URL they try to direct you to is not a legitimate Paypal site. Report it and press on.

I've never had a problem with Paypal.

I considered it... but it was too much of a hassle to set up

Hate it, damn idiots would not help when I found out someone hacked in it. Filed a FBI report on it

that just sucks , the last thing you want is someone having acess to your money .

Put me down as one who hates it. I never knew that if you kept a 0 balance that they close the account after a certain amount of time. Can't even reopen the stupid thing. Ugh, Paypal sucks.

I love paypal. It is easy to set up, and it is easy to use if you are buying on eBay. Who wants to wait to send a check or money order when you can pay instantly?

Plus you get extra protection when you use paypal on ebay, allowing you to get all money back if something bad happens.

Seems like she is the exception and not the rule.

Not only does you using paypal force your seller to send your package within a week, they pretty much always side with the buyer when a claim arises and can force refunds should anything happen.

Maybe your sister should learn how it works before using it.

Actually while I was reading up on it, there have been a few lawsuits against paypal so it dosent seem that his sister is the exception.
I myself have decided to hold off on setting up the paypal. I too ka look and it is a bit confusing..do I bring over money off my credit card or what?

and maybe you should know the facts, the 'seller' in question was a hacker who stole 5,000. He/she hacked into paypal and get this, it was someone that was working in paypal that did it

Well sucks for you.

Paypal is incredibly easy to set up.

I highly recommend it. It's just like writing checks--but online.

Essentially you sign up. You give a bank information, and a major credit card. They deposit some money like change into your account to verify everything.
That's about it.

I've used paypal over 200 times, and when I ever had issues, crappy sellers, I just went to them and they refunded my money.

pint taken ****leville btw how'd you come up with that moniker?

One way to tell is that the fake site... the site isn't secure (without the lock).
Another thing I've noticed is that, paypal doesn't send you email (I've never gotten any from them) and if it does, it'll most likely address you by your name.
I've been using paypal for a couple of years now and have had no problem with it other than the phishing email.
