First things first, there is nothing that points that it will happen.

First it was Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, that said it would make perfect sense, and believes that Apple´s gaming sucess will not stop with the iPhone.
Now, it´s Michell Guillemot, brother of Yves and CEO of Gameloft, that said the the exact same thing, that it would make perfect sense for Apple to expand their reach into gaming in light of the success of the iPhone and iPod Touch.

So, do you belive it will happen sooner or later?
And if so, and in light of the all "there can be only three", which console would get it´s butt kicked?

I don't think they could make much impact, as the market is pretty much owned by the big three....but I wouldn't have seen MS doing near as well as they are either.

So who knows. I would pass if they did it.

Atari could always make a comeback. They were the great grandfathers.

Its too late in the game for any company to get into the console business. At least not at this point and time

THAT Atari is long dead and buried, so, there is zero chances for that to happen, unless they have a time machine and do a Terminator to all of us.

Despite my love for Apple, I don't want a console from them. If they do it'll either be that they fail or that the PS3 will die. I personally don't want Sony to die because I could be interested in the PS4.

Sony isnt going anywhere and Apple definetly isnt going to come out and crush the PS3

Nah, I don't think they would crush the PS3. I think the PS3 would die under all of the competition.

what competition though. Its striving among the 360 and Wii. Its way too late for anyone to release a new console this generation. We are already 3 years into it. If Apple were to release one it will be in the next generation of consoles.. The PS3 has over 20+million owners. Apple cant put a dent in that. Not too mention that for it to even have a chance, its going to need a powerful incentive for people to buy it, namely some damn good exclusive software support. Why would any 3rd party developer even consider them when the other 3 systems have large established userbases?

Yeah, but it was Sony that killed Sega, not Microsoft.

If Apple or some other company did try to get into the game, it'd be for the next generation. I don't see Apple making that much of an impact though, most of the iPod Touch and iPhone stuff seems very casual gamer to me and you can't build a home console on that. I'm sure plenty of people are going to say "What about Wii, that all for the casual gamer", yes it's mostly for the casual gamer, but Nintendo also has their mascots, Mario, Link and Samus. I think the mascots got a decent amount of people to buy the Wii, heck those 3 characters are really the only reason I have one. Apple I feel would try to appeal to only casual gamers and all three other consoles are working on that, but they also have their "hardcore" games and franchises. Apple would either have to do what Sony did and buy some exclusive titles (which they won't get because no studio now will release a big time game on an unproven console) or build a new franchise in house.

The initial upfront costs to launch a console are huge. I dont know if in this market, Apple would see enough profit potential in it. As it stands, the Big 3 dont have that high of a profit margin on the consoles themselves. Most of their bank is made on software.

That´s a very common mistake.
Sony didn´t killed Sega, the CD killed Sega, just like it killed almost everyone in the gaming industry (except the PC, with got way better by it, and Nintendo, which changed their minds at the last minute, and thus, the Playstation was born.).

Actually that's not correct either. Sega killed Sega

....this is based off of what, exactly?

The video game business is a striving one, and it will definitely be here for awhile. It's never too late. People would have told Apple the same thing about cell phones before the iPhone came around, but they ended up taking the industry by the balls. I wouldn't mind if they came into the fray, they might pull off something great.

I think he meant this generation of consoles

I used that same sentence a couple of times bofore, and that´s, by other words, exactly what i said.
Sega killed Sega, when they jumped unto the CD bandwagon and created stuff like the Sega CD, which was a complete fiasco, and made they lose tons of money.
They never got back from that, even after trying for two more generations.

Now if Apple teamed up with Nintendo which already has a foot in the industry then we’re talking. If you look at Ninetendo’s target audience its pretty much the same target that Apple would wanna grab on to.They’ve got a similar product culture

Explain. The only similarities they have is they're both very isolated companies. Past that, they're pretty different. Especially in consumer value.

I think he's talking about the silver-white-and-blue-loving casual whimsical fun crowd. Apple markets to a slightly more sophisticated group though.

Anyway, Apple could make quite an interesting move with a casual console, akin to the Wii with a similar price point. Obviously this would be for the next or following generation of consoles. Marketing smart would have it be the first release of the next gen.

They'd have hell getting developer support, and would have more than their fair share of paying dues developing a good first party studio. They'd almost need to leverage some sort of connected apps on their iGadgets in order to bring in their core audience. It'd be pretty intense, and they'd really have to wow everyone -- gamers, developers, distributors, press -- to get enough cred to not be written off as a joke.

IF they were to do that, though, It'd hurt sales with the other three. How significantly would depend much on what developers decided to do.

I posted it again, in case anyone missed it the first time...

Thank you. I already explained it in the other posts I put in this thread

Why would Nintendo team up with them? Maybe that would have been an option a few years ago but Nintendo is in a position right now, that they really dont need them. The Wii is practically printing money for them. I dont think they'd want to share a piece of that with anyone

I believe that, if Apple would get into gaming, Sony would be fu**ed.
And i´ll explain why...
Microsoft and Apple are "mortal enemies", they are direct competitors, so, if Apple would get into the industry, they would try and mimic what Microsoft has done so far and then some more, which means Microsoft would "counterattack" and so on....
Nintendo would be an all diferent ball game so no one would pay attention to them....Sony, on the other hand....
In the end, Apple vs Microsoft could very well destroy the industry.

Either that, or we would see a team up between Microsoft and Sony.
