I hate it. Its made me very angry and pretty depressed. I was wondering what are your stories of applying to colleges whenever you did

Applying for uni sucks and is way too stressful. People freak out about it too much. When I applied for undergrad, I applied to 8 schools. It was very unneccesary.

Get your applications in, and then don't worry about it. Some school will want to educate you.

I went to JC after high school for 2 yrs. before applying to a major university. It was alot of stress and not knowing what school you will end up, so I'm glad to have gotten my education and degree and get out of there. I feel bad for students applying for colleges right now due to all the hiking fees and a job market that is still recovering from the recession.

You know in a recession, prices should be reduced. That's the whole point of recession, to correct malinvestments.

But for some reason many people vote politicians to indirectly raise the price of college tuition. I guess they want higher tuition

Whats are also bad are the application fees

Paying whether you get in or not :smh:

I never understood why people got so stressed about applying to university. I never was. But I was fortunate enough to get in everywhere I applied.

I didn't find out that I got into my school until 3 months after I'd actually gotten accepted though (they didn't update)!

I'm sure that you'll be fine. :)

I applied to 4 or 5 colleges, and was accepted at all of them. I was also able to to re-write the same essay for I think all of them. Not bad at all.

I sent in my applications almost a year ago, and am now in my first choice school. So huzzah for me.

I applied to only SUNY schools, so I was able to use the main common application for all of them. The supplements were for the most part repetitive, but the essays were pretty much free form, except one I think, so that wasn't bad. It's really the looking for colleges part that's annoying.

I just sent my applications to 5 universities 2 weeks ago and I'd be lying if I said I'm not stressed about knowing the results. If no uni accepts me, I honestly don't know what I'll do :whatever:.

I've only applied twice. LA Film School and Community College. Got into the first one..but had to drop out due to no co-signer. The other one I'm going to because it's so cheap.

I never applied at any major Universities because I couldn't afford them, I just went in to a local Community College in my home town and it was like THEY were trying to convince ME I should go to College there. I did but then about 2 years in I decided I didn't want to do Computer Programming any more so I just kind of stopped going to classes, I guess they got the memo when I didn't enroll the next semester.

I applied to 4 universities and was accepted into 3 of them. The one I didn't get into was a reach school anyway so it didn't hurt my self esteem too much!

There's financial aid and tons of scholarships. Even if you're not eligible for financial aid, you can always apply for some scholarships but the thing is you have to write essays and such. You just have to set aside some time for that.

I sent my early decision application for NYU Tisch two months ago. I get a decision next week. :woot:

I actually want to ask a huge favor for whoever is reading this here is my college essay along with some short answers. I am try to get as many people to read them as I can. There not that long so if you have the time please read over them. Thank you.

Ithaca

Please note briefly the reason(s) you selected the academic program to which you seek admission. How did you become interested? Please upload an additional sheet if necessary.

Something that I really enjoy is watching films. As I grew up, I started to wonder: who chooses these movies, who gets these movies made, and who hires the directors or actors. After having some of my questions answered by the TV series “Entourage”, I decided to research some more about the actual business men in Hollywood. I came across names of people, like Ari Emmanuel and Charles Roven, who worked for actors I really like or produced a film I enjoyed. Communications (specifically Integrated Marketing Communications) ended up being the major that was most integrated with various forms of media, so I chose it hoping that it will help me get a grasp on what would help me become a film producer or talent agent.

Lehigh

As you researched and visited colleges and universities, why did you decide to apply to Lehigh? Please give specific reasons. What contributions will you make during your time at Lehigh?
I first heard about Lehigh from my mother. After researching more, the marketing program interested me especially the potential NBC internship, so I added the college to my list.

Later, I heard from different people that it would be helpful to email all the colleges I was interested in to introduce myself. I did that with about 10 colleges. Eight of them didn’t reply and only one replied in a timely fashion and that college was Lehigh. David Thompson actually showed interest in me as a person, unlike many other admission officers at other schools.

The well-timed and genuine interest that an admission officer showed me as well as the marketing program are what really got me very interested in Lehigh University.

In our ever-changing society, people have defined 'equity' and 'community' in many different ways. How do you define these terms and what are the implications of equity and community for our 21st century society?
Equity and community are two independent things. However, when they are put together they perform very well.
Equity to me is treating someone as you want to be treated. Equity comes in many forms such as racial equity, gender equity, or even just equity in between high school cliques. Unfortunately, too many people are always debating, physically fighting, or putting someone else down just because they are different in some way.

A community is a place where people gather and cooperate to better and benefit each other. A community could be a city or even somewhere as small as a single home. Unless somebody completely dethatches him or herself away from every form of life then they are part of some kind of community whether it is an ecosystem or a school.

When you take a community and add the perfect amount of equity, you get a near perfect place. A place where there are no fights because people treat others equally. A place where I would want to be.

Syracuse

Who or what influenced you to apply to Syracuse University?
I first got interested in Syracuse in 8th grade at a college fair my brother’s high school had. I hadn’t even thought about starting my college search, but I didn’t feel like being left out so I attend anyway. After going through almost all of the colleges, I ended up at the Syracuse table. I heard about Syracuse whenever my brother talked about Carmelo Anthony, but I didn’t know much about the school. While talking to the admissions representative, I heard about Syracuse’s music industry program. The business side to the entertainment industry always interested me and the fact that Syracuse had a whole program dedicated to it impressed me. From that day, I have always been interested in Syracuse University

If you have had paid work experience, what skills and/or knowledge did you gain?
My first job was at a Giant Foods grocery store. I was only 15 at the time and it was the only place that would hire someone my age. After getting hired, my basic duties were to bag groceries, restock cash registers with plastic bags, help senior citizens get groceries to their cars, and clean the outer front of the store. I really learned how to deal with people in a difficult situation. One time, two ladies got into a shouting match because the first lady was taking to long to bag her groceries. I calmly told the ladies that I’ll help the lady put the groceries in her car, so they could both go along their day. I think after a situation such as that I’ll know how to act in similar situations.

I definitely think, if I am accepted to Syracuse, that I would like to study abroad a semester. London has always been a place I wanted to go to. Usually people would want to go to a completely different and foreign place where they only roughly know the language, but I think I would like to go to London since, from the outside, we seem similar and I would love to compare and contrast the US to the UK. A couple of the previous London programs interested me. “Advertising Research” seems like a good program to explain the different techniques of advertising and “Britain and World Cinema” seems like a great way to expand my knowledge and appreciation for films.

Common App

In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer).
Black Male Forum is a weekly meeting that is attended by many black males in my school's community. During these meetings we talk about different things relating to American, not limited to black, culture. We've had discussions on topics such as: Jena 6, gay marriage, and what does it mean to be a man. Mostly these meetings are meant to be an opportunity for black males to meet and be around people that they can generally relate to more. We also have fundraisers such as bake sales and basketball tournaments in order to raise money for community members who need financial help and to donate to an anti domestic violence organization called The White Ribbon Campaign.

Topic of my choice.
Some people have The Catcher in the Rye, some people have The Lord of the Rings, but for me my favorite book of all time is Watchmen. In case you didn’t know Watchmen is a 1984 graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Dave Gibbons. The fact that I am a fan of graphic novels is something that most, if not all, people can tell just by looking at me.

Sometimes when I tell people that I read graphic novels or comics in general (yes, they are different) they get a weird look on their face and say something along the lines of: Comic books? Aren’t those for…nerds? Probably because of how Hollywood has made it seem like the only people that read comic books are either 40 year old guys who still live in the basement or “trekkies”. But in all honesty, being a fan of comics is no different than being a supporter for a sports team.

I’ve also heard people say that comic book readers don’t do anything else with their lives. I like comics, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy doing other things like watching movies and playing sports. I like breaking the perceptions that many people get when they first look at me. I like to think that if I go against the stereotypes by reading comics or not playing, it would help people not be so quick to pass judgment on the next person by their looks.

Sure, comics and graphic novels are usually shorter than most regular novels, but that doesn’t make them have any less literary value. In the case of Watchmen, the story involves the death of a costumed vigilante that triggers a conspiracy theory for another masked hero. The story basically explores the human side that many authors are afraid to go into with most mainstream heroes. By the end of the story, Watchmen comments on humanity and loss of it just as well as Lord of the Flies did.

The reason why I think my love for comics is so important to me is because it’s not something that people can know just by looking at me. To find this out you would have to have more than just one conversation with me. By looking at me you can tell I am a black male that’s about average height, from small talk you might be able to learn that I like watching movies, but to know that I like comics, well that is something only people who have truly met me know. It’s not a secret; it’s just something that doesn’t usually come around in conversation the first time I meet someone.

The things that people don’t advertise so easily, I think are the most interesting hobbies or traits about people in general. To know those semi-secretive things about a person shows that I know them pretty well.

Please if you get the chance look at them. Thank you.

When I graduated from high school I didn't apply to any universities and I thought I was going to be a bum.But that summer I registered with MDC(Miami Dade College)It was only a $20 registration fee and now I'm on my way to my AA.

Im trying to attend Cal Poly U in Pomona, for an undergrad BA in Psychology. I talked to the guidance counselor there and told me the specific outline of what classes to take at a JC. So far I only need one more semester and I'm guaranteed in. What pisses me off are those for profit universities that solely exist to leech funds available to needy students from the government. I wish (since we are in a recession) the government would impose strict limits on those ersatz institutions.

Anyway good luck Blackman.

Blackman I read your essay and short answers. You're concepts are good, but reread it over to check for spelling and grammar errors. Try getting an english teacher to help you.

I think for you're essay you need to organize you're thoughts better and provide some more intellectual detail to the subjects you know. For example, you're entire essay is about your love of comic books, but only briefly do you describe the intellectual merit of books such as Watchmen. The rest of the essay just goes into a sad reflection mode. Make that only one paragraph. Short-sweet-to-the-point: you're proud of who you are and the intellectual stimulation that graphic novels provide. Then, go into more of an analysis about other deeper meanings of Watchmen. Further explain what you understand about Alan Moore's intentions in writing the book in the first place. What is the theme of the book? Is their a clear cut message or is it ambigious for the reader to decide for itself? How does each character symbolize philosophical archetypes? How does it relate to geo-politics? You need to prove that you grasp concepts that others, who have a stigma against comic books, are ignorantly passing up.

Also, don't limit yourself to Watchmen. Have you read Maus I or II by Art Spiegelman? That is a great example to use. It is even better that you talk about books that have not been made into films. That gives you an advantage. You don't even need to give in depth analyzations. Just state the theme and describe how the material has made you more well-rounded.

Cool you're apply to Syracuse too. I'm applying there after getting rejected by NYU. Btw, Watchmen is my most favorite book of all time too. I used the character Rocky Balboa as the subject of my college essay.
