Are 3D movies getting out of hand?

I have a question.. is it more expensive to make movies in 3D rather than 2D?

Yes....

I work at Best Buy, in the home theater dept. :word:

How good is the quality?

Something tells me it won't be that great until a few years down the road. Do you think it's worth buying if you really enjoy 3D?

The quality is pretty good. It was the Samsung 55" 3D LED. But it makes me a little dizzy just taking a glance at the screen without the goggles on, also makes my eyes hurt a little after watching it

i am not expert but history is proof. that everything that comes out in the beginning is basicly ''beta''. they are throwing things out and then 3 years later they will do something that they could have done in the beginning. so when the first 3D TV's will get cheaper they wil lrealese something that is better and more practical. but then they will again be expensive.

If you really enjoy 3D and don't care about dropping a dumpster filled of cash then yeah I guess it's worth it lol

No,because since Avatar, the only movie that has been released in 3D is Alice In Wonderland. IN THE PRESENT. It's not like 3D will be applied to every movie genre in theaters, this 3D problem is being blown out of proportion, and I certainly do not sympathize with anyone here because of the problem. Me on the other hand will start freaking out big time when other kinds of movies are released in 3D that shouldn't be released like that. Even if I have no interest in seeing them at all.

Think about it, everyone..

This is how most movies are going to end up becoming anyway...It's a natural progression of the medium.

I highly doubt that comedies or dramas are going to be in 3D.

Besides, Willem Dafoe in 3D would make most of us crap in our pants.

When they announce Batman Arkham Asylum{a FREAKEN video game} in 3D, yes, 3D has gone too far.

75 percent of movies this year are 3D now? That means 3 out of every 4? Um...that sounds off. Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, Shrek, Harry Potter and some owl movie.

Anyway, I don't care for 3D. I watched Avatar in 3D and was not impressed and will not see 3D again for a very long time. In any case though don't expect it to go away. There is blood in the water (money) and the sharks (Hollywood studios) are circling. All major blockbusters (which are not even a quarter of films released in a year) will be in 3D.

But the great thing? You can do what I do and skip 'em in that format, see them in 2D and save $3 while you're at it. Great thinking.

some theaters are starting to force us into 3D.

3 showings of Alice 3D in and 1 ( one) showing in 2D. and not after 1 or 2 weeks when it got popular. from the beginning.

again from the beginning. on the first day they had only 1 showing in 2D. and at what time? at that time that there is a 90% chance that you wont watch it because its crazy.

so i am starting to get scared. i am afraid that in the future studios will realese bad 3D and only show it in 3D. so the only way for me to watch a blockbuster in theater will be in bad 3D.

I wont mind as long as they limit it to visual CG fests rather than "real" stuff like Taken and Rambo.

The general public is going to catch on and realize what Hollywood is doing. If we continue getting films with lame 3D, people are going to stop caring, and save their money. The only way 3D will be successful in the long run, is if it's done right, and actually adds to the experience of the film.

I have a question.. is it more expensive to make movies in 3D rather than 2D?

It's more expensive to film in 3D compared to 2D, because there are many other variables a 3D film has, especially in post production. If you convert a 2D film to 3D, it costs north of $5 million, in addition to extra costs (millions) for 3D glasses.

It depends on the movie. In the case of big budget blockbusters yes , it is more expensinve to shoot something in 3d because you have to create images twice. One of the left eye and one for the right eye. The Tron Legacy grid concept trailer is a good example of this. Originally when the teaser debuted at COMIC-CON 2008 they wanted to show it in 3d but they only had finished the shots for one side. When they showed the trailer again at COMIC-CON 2009 they showed it it's full 3d glory.

To me it's the wave of the future. I don't think all movies will come out in 3-D though but I do expect to see most Sci-Fi, Superhero, fantasy, toons and some horror films coming out in 3-D.

The big deal with Avatar was not the 3D (it has been around for a long time) it was the new technology in special effects that really wowed. Without those new effects, Cameron could never have created an entire world on which to base the movie.

Clash Of The Titans which wasn't gonna be 3D got pushed back a week just so they could make it that way. They're even talking about making the fourth Twilight movie in 3D. Now that is really pushing it.

WTF!!!! :cmad:

I do think it's getting out of hand, since now we have movies that were previously set in 2D now being considered to be converted to 3D instead, just so movie studios can make a few more money at the BO. But Hollywood will ride this gravy train until it hits their bottom line, and proved that not every film that gets a 3D treatment will make it worthwhile to justify all these extra cost.

Of course it's getting out of hand. This is Hollywood afterall, land of monkey see, monkey do. 3D will be the justification for higher prices and nothing more.

As for 3D at home, someone said earlier, people haven't even gotten over the shift to hi-def, to say nothing of the sticker shock when shopping for hi-def TVs. Nuff said.

3D is and will always be a gimmick until someone finds a way to truly immerse the audience in the environment, i.e., hologram or VR. Since we know both technologies have a way to go before they resemble anything most of us would consider truly immersive.....

Does 3D have it's place? The real question is, "is 3D necessary?". Honestly, the whole 3D issue is tiring. It will die down as it always does because it can't mask bad movies, Hollywood will use it as a gimmick and audiences will slowly catch on that it's not worth it.

The only way I can see 3D catching on is because theatres will force it down the public's throat.

If 3D movies is the "wave of the future", I'll gladly stay on the land.
