Does anybody think that sometimes huge nerd gatherings like cons or message boards like this one are more often than not HARMFUL to the materials said people are a fan of to begin with?

I mean, I know that being on the internet gives a lot of angry people huge balls because they face no real consequences for their actions. That's PART of the problem. Everybody has decided that their personal opinion is just as vital and informative as the opinons of the people who write the movies, comics, or whatever. Fans literally pass around boycotts and petitions to try to change the course of a movie for God's sakes!

They said Keaton would never work as Batman. They said Ledger would never work as Joker. Now, they say Robin could never fit into the current films.

Has anybody else realized that "they" (WE) don't know **** ?!?!

Literally, thousands of geeks are greatly exaggerating the strengths and weaknesses of materials with some of the most BIAS opinions I have ever seen in my life.

People are using their free time to ***** about the colors of Superman's costume. Or how about all that "Batman Begins is the greatest movie of all time" stuff? Remember THAT?! What the hell is going on? Good movie, sure. Greatest of all time? WHAT?!?!

I wouldn't care if all of this was presented as OPINION... but it's not. It's a bunch of fans suddenly wielding way too much power for their own good. The internet, the Hype, and other fan meeting places actually hold a lot of sway over the creation of new materials. It's NOT a good thing. Know why? Because the writers/directors/producers and real experts went to college, paid their dues, LEARNED their craft, and earned their spots. Now, they have to put up with the nonstop "armchair quarterbacking" from people who love a character but truly have no idea how to really write or create something great.

I don't know. I don't mean to rant. I just browse forums and read a lot of really ridiculous stuff. All the "Batman can beat anybody", the "Superman is not allowed to have a son", the "the blue should be brighter and the red should be darker", or one "fanboy" calling somebody else a "fanboy" in a derogatory way, etc.

It's not just fans being fans anymore. It's fans being spoiled, bossy brats.

That's my honest opinion. Roast me if you will but it had to be said.

Whats this? A collective of people have a percentage of dip****s in their ranks?

Welcome to humanity...

oh, by the way, larry, thats no way to bash most of your audience....since, you know...those same idiots are the ones watching the fan films you like to make...

I'm not bashing anybody. I'm saying that I think the line between "fan" and "obnoxious" has been crossed.

Except this has been happening since there have been fans. Once again, welcome to humanity, where every group of people have dip****s sitting in the corner. It's only more noticible here because thousands on the internet dont compare to millions of another population or group

You seem to think we hold a lot more sway than we actually do. How many of those boycotts actually worked? If we were so adamant about Ledger not being able to play the Joker and we actually held sway over these films who'd he wind up in the final movie. Hollywood suits don't give a crap what we think, we don't have any power, just a convient place to b*tch and moan or praise things we do or don't like with like minded people. We don't hold any power though.

Larry, shut the **** up.

Look at it this way:

Super Hero Movies before the Internet (Other than Superman: the Movie) < Super Hero Movies After the Internet (other than GhostRider)

I rest my case.

Ghost Rider is so much better than most other comic movies.

so you're saying that before the internet every superhero movie was badand after they were good?

i present to you the fantastic four films, elektra, X3, spider-man 3, blade: trinity, all made after the internet, all were viewd by the vast amount of people as being bad.

so to put it a better way:
star wars movies before the internet > star wars movies after the internet

find flaw in that...

Ghost Rider is so much better than most other comic movies.

Which ones? I'll give you movies like Catwoman and Elektra, but Ghost Rider is pretty damn close to the bottom. Although, I never though Ghost Rider would work on the big screen anyway, his stories have never been really good, the most he had going for him was his look, but a cool look with a bad story doesn't really translate well.

You have to agree, the Marvel movies you mentioned are better than the these:

they aren't better because of creativity or great storytelling - they are better because they got more attention, bigger names, and a lot more money thrown their way. Today's cheese isn't the same as yesterday's... but it's all cheese nonetheless.

It does if it's hilarious. GR was hilarious.

Oh, and FF and FF2 were by far the worst. Let's measure these movie on potential/acheiving that potential, please. The comcept of a GR movie in the first place had little potential and they made the most of it. FF had ridiculous potential and farted.

and i own the 94 fantastic four movie and the new ones are better than that, but nothing will beat the hoff as nick fury...NOTHING!!!

Dolph Punisher FTW, by the way. Love that movie.

I agree there is a lot of idiocy thrown around in message boards. But most of it is done in good fun and not meant to be taken seriously...I hope.

Dude seriously, there's people like that within any social sphere. Sports fans that get too into it. Writers that are too pretentious. Engineers that don't bathe, etc etc.

At least fanboys are being idiotic about something that matters. Namely Star Trek v. Star Wars. ;)
