Bat-Jet in Batman 3?

I noticed this when I watched it the first time, but upon reading the script, and watching the Bat-tech special, it's been on my mind for a day or so.

When Mr. Resse confronts Lucius about the irregularity found in Wayne EP he states:

Mr Reese: Not with their numbers [L.S.I.Holdings]. With yours. A whole division of Wayne industries disappeared, overnight. So I went down to archives and started pulling old files.

He pulls out an old blueprint. Slides it across the desk. [Tumbler]

Reese (cont'd): ...Your project. Don't tell me you didn't notice your baby pancaking cop cars on the evening news. Now you're getting sloppy. Applied sciences was a small, dead department - who'd notice? But now you've got the entire R and D department burning cash, claiming it's related to cell phones for the army. [BLACKOUT]What are you building now? A rocket ship?[/BLACKOUT]

Tumbler. Bat-pod. [BLACKOUT]Bat-jet?[/BLACKOUT]

If this is already being talked about or belongs somewhere else please merge/move. I did a search on this forum but really couldn't find anything.

I see how you could think it's foreshadowing, but a bat-jet would be ridiculous in the Nolanurse. I don't quite see it happening.

You think? At first I thought maybe (he was talking about the Sonar) but the way he states it as if he's talking about 2 different projects.

He talks about R and D burning money for the Army contract and then the jet as another on-going project.

Anyway, I think the idea of evolving to a jet in the third was is pretty sound. We had the bad ass Tumbler (with a possible revamp for the 3rd), the ridiculously kickass Bat-pod, seems to fit.

Many of us didn't see a bat-cycle! Lots of us objected to the idea too.

I really think you need a massive team to build a jet. Especially if it's gonna have all the tech the Tumbler had. Not to mention the tumbler was built for a actual military purpose so there's its excuse. I haven't heard of many people building entire airplanes on there own, let alone some kinda of stealth bomber(which it would probably be like). All of the Batman gadgets had "excuses" as to why they could exist without people noticing that there was stolen technology(really borrowed) or there were multiples.

I'm sure I saw an interview with Nathan Crowley (Production Designer) and he dismissed the notion of a Batplane because it would be very difficult to make an actual working one. However, he did say he'd consider a Boatboat! I could see that working pretty well actually with the docks around Gotham.

Well isnt the batpod and Tumbler functional? I mean they can actually be driven in real life except the fact that only one guy was able to master the batpod.

Why would Batman need a Bat-jet?
The Tumbler and Batpod work in the film because they function for a purpose. The only reason a Bat-Jet would serve the story is if it was necessary to counter an adversary, e.g., The Riddler were parading in a gargantuan, steam powered, mechanical spider.

If there were any purpose for a Batplane it was in this film for the "sky hook" it wasn't used- but it also wasn't necessary....could have been cool though.

Mr. Reese said "what are you building him now? A rocket ship?" In a facetious, exaggerating tone.

I'm not sure about one he'd keep around the cave, but I can see him using like this for something outside the country:

Painted black, of course. But that's just what I can see him using along the lines of a Bat-Jet.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe in an interview with one of the guys responsible for designing the Tumbler said that he'd like to do the Bat-Boat instead. he said something about the Bat-Jet wouldn't fit in the Nolanverse.

The third film should end with Gordon and Batman on top of the police headquaters like in Begins.

The Riddler is behind bars but the Catwoman is still on the loose.

Batman points out that they have a new Bat signal and Gordon says hopefully they won't have to break this one.

Batman stands triumphantly at the edge of the building ready to jump off and go bring in some bad guys with Gordon looking at him proudly when....

...an officer bursts through the door...

"Sir, Sir, The Joker has escaped from Arkham!"

Gordon looks at the Batman with a look of dispair, Batman looks back round at him and nods. Batman jumps off the building.

*Joker laugh*

Nolan's Batman trilogy ends.
