The Dark Knight Are we getting a [see thread] in Batman 3?

What I think will happen is that Nolan will design a new Batmobile that is a multi purpose vehicle of sorts. I could see a scene where he is driving through gotham in the New sleeker Batmobile and then takes off of a bridge and the wheels mechanically subvert and the bottom turns into some sort of hover craft boat.

Why is an airborn vehicle so hard to swallow? Planes have been around for what, almost a hundred years? Many people have private jets.

Just like he drives around in an experimental military terrain vehicle, I see no reason why he couldn't fly around in a super-secret jet. It doesn't have to look like a giant Bat. It could be like the Blackbird.

I don't think I'd compare an airplane to a dog with superpowers.

Well, I'm probably not the best one to answer this, since I didn't like Operation Skyhook, the bat-sonar or the bat-pod's turn-around-on-wall maneuver. But...

First, as someone said, you cannot build a jet on your own. You would need a team, and Batman has no team.

Also, there is no need for a jet. He has (well, had) the Tumbler and the Batpod. Why would he need anything that flies, specially if he already has that cape of his? Unless people start conceiving films in which the Riddler (or whoever the next villain is) has a Zeppelin of Death or a Balloon of Sorrow that needs to be destroyed, there is no need to bring more bat-vehicles to the franchise. And, frankly, if anyone is considering something like that, I'm officialy scared.

I know that Batman has a whole bunch of Transformers-like vehicles in his garage in the comics, but I don't think they would fit the universe that is being portrayed. I mean, if the technology showed in The Dark Knight bothered many, what would we have if suddenly there was a bat-like jet flying around? There is no need to bring that to the story. I'm the kind of guy who does not need to see everything that exists in the comics coming to life in the movies. And to have a bat-jet for the single reason of having a bat-jet is no reason for me.

Actually, even if they come up with a reason to have the bat-jet I still think it's better to leave it out.

A bat-jet is ridiculous but a bike that turns around on walls and drives sideways is sensible?

How do you figure?

I see what you are saying, but I don't think we will ever see it because Nolan has a disdain for cgi overuse, which would be neccessary to create such a jet in a live film.

This. And as I already stated, you would need a entire team to build a jet. I'm fairly sure someone working on a brand new plane that no one should know about would be pretty suspicious if they saw on the late night news Batman was flying it around.

This team building isn't an issue though you sign them to confidentiality contracts that can't be broken. You need entire teams of research scientists to build a new drug and how many times have their secret formulas been released?

I did a doctorate in Cancer Biology with a concentration in drug development and there is NO way those contracts can be broken, they have teams of lawyers that go over EVERY tiny detail, and spilling the secrets not only will cost you everything you own, but a CRAZY jail sentence. Corporations cover their tracks, and they have a system that leans heavily in their favor. So this talk about someone talking isn't really an issue, unless the person had absolutely nothing to lose. It is impossible to sell the idea, story or memoirs, because the company or publisher stupid enough to buy it, is held libel for the breach of corporate secrets, which not only has heavy fines but is a huge criminal issue for the company. Even if there is a legitimate health concern, like with big tobacco, they issue gag orders galore to silence people.

Mr. Reese trying to blackmail Wayne was a slip up on Lucius and Wayne's part for not covering their tracks, a slight oversight. However, we didn't see anyone who actually built/worked on the Tumbler come out and talk about it. How many military secrets ever get leaked in regards to R and D? Does anyone know the true meaning of Area-51, besides a bunch of conspiracy mumbo jumbo? Try talking to a person that works there? Good luck finding anyone willing to even acknowledge they work there that isn't a discredited wack job.

Are you saying that Batman's cape can really be used like a glider as it is in the movie?

But the cape was mainly practical effects which is more Nolan's style. There were some CGI scenes with the cape, but really not that much. Nolan from my understanding doesn't like over using CGI. A bat-jet would be more a visual effect using CGI. They most likely can't get a real bat-jet to fly. Would be cool but I don't think it's gonna happen.

There's no point for a bat jet. Name a villain who Batman would need to use a bat jet against.

My biggest problem with the jet idea is the landing and take off. Take a look at the previous times Batman used a jet on film (Batman 89 and Batman Forever). Both times he flew the thing once and the writers had to crash it to get him out of it. The only way it would work would be if he pulled a Snake Plissken and landed on top of some tall skyscraper with the aid of a hook and cable to stop himself and then take off from a freefall.

I guess you could also take the Harrier jet approach and have vertical take-off and landing... and VTOL could be a feasible feature for some military aircraft Wayne Industries was developing. But let's not turn Nolan's Batman into some pre-Casino Royale-James Bond with every possible gadget and vehicle for every possible scenario. He got to Hong Kong and back without a Batjet or a Batwing. He's doing just fine, as is.

Dunno if anyone else noticed, but if you've got it, there was a Batman Begins toy with a motorcycle that looks A LOT like the Bat-pod. It's not exact, I think the guns are missing and maybe the body is different - but the wheels and the lay-down angle are there. It's very similar.

That said, in Begins and now, TDK, the toys have had a Bat-Jet thing. The design has been the same for both series of toys. So me thinks they've had all 3 designs since Begins, re-vamped the Pod for TDK, and may well introduce that jet in some form in 3.

Haha. I was going to mention this...:)

I see the plane he used for the sky-hook is good enough, doesn't need a Bat-Wing.

In Nolan I trust..

if he thinks he can make a bat-plane work, I believe he can make it work.

The third film should end with Gordon and Batman on top of the police headquaters like in Begins.

The Riddler is behind bars but the Catwoman is still on the loose.

Batman points out that they have a new Bat signal and Gordon says hopefully they won't have to break this one.

Batman stands triumphantly at the edge of the building ready to jump off and go bring in some bad guys with Gordon looking at him proudly when....

...an officer bursts through the door...

"Sir, Sir, The Joker has escaped from Arkham!"

Gordon looks at the Batman with a look of dispair, Batman looks back round at him and nods. Batman jumps off the building.

*Joker laugh*

Nolan's Batman trilogy ends.

That would be a really bad ending and also make people want a fourth and the studios OF COURSE NEEDS TO CASH IN, and force a fourth one to be made

And if you commit murder, you can be imprisoned or executed. This is why the crime of murder no longer occurs.

Man, these arguments get weaker and weaker. You and I can spin it either way, and we can argue these little points until carpal tunnel sets in. Whatever, it's really not an issue for me.

I hate it when people say "that doesn't fit with the Nolan films". **** that. Make it fit. I bet a bunch of people thought Joker wouldn't be walking around in a bright purple suit because it "doesn't fit". But it did. Sure, permawhite skin wouldn't fit, so they adjusted the character to MAKE him fit into the movie. Now every goddamned thing someone mentions that hasn't been established in the first two films "doesn't fit".

I understand saying that Killer Croc wouldn't fit, but the batplane? Or even the people that said the goddamned BATCAVE wouldn't fit? Come on, give me a break. If you "believe" in Chris Nolan at ALL, as all of you say you do, you would have more faith in his abilities to adapt Batman's trademark enemies, ALLIES, and weapons in his films.

Agreed. A LOT of us didn't like the idea of the Bat-pod, now it's the greatest thing ever created. Your point about the Joker's suit is spot on!

I understand the criticism in regards that Nolan and co. can't make an actual flying plane, but all this crap about "team building" or "where's Batman going to land it" are just insane.

Teams built the Tumbler; there are probably teams building the bat-cave. There was a team for Operation Skyhook that saw Bruce get into the plane and Batman getting in later. I don't see anyone crying about a "team" there.

Once again, name a villain or present a logical situation where Batman would need to use a bat-jet?

I think we will see a new tumbler, with some added features such as it being amphibious. So you might see it become the batboat in a chase scene thru the canals of the gotham..sort of like a classic james bond boat chase scene. I can see that happening more than a JET.

aw if nolan wanted to make it work he would in a completely realistic way.

if he really kept this as "realistic" as people claim then batman and rachel would probably not walk away from that extremely high fall from his pad...or more people would have seen the tumbler on the nightly news in BB and said "hey, i worked on that for wayne enterprises and now its on the evening news"

just saying..if he wanted to, trust him

the whole "in nolan i trust" thing has got to stop. its just annoying.

From what Ive read, they've said if they do a new vehicle they'd rather do a bat-boat than a bat-plane, because itd be more fun, and would fit better into Nolans realistic world.

i don't need to see a boat... no need for a plane..(the gliding cape is fine for me)
i'm looking forward to the new batmobile sitting in the new batcave...
and the bat-pod will be sitting right next to it..

I do want to see a new vehicle whatever one they decide is fine with me, and YES I want to see a fully furnished bat-cave.
