Are you offended if someone doesn't like your art?

No but I am curious about what they don't like

it bugs me when people dont like my art..but i dont take it personal. people have different tastes. but if someone can explain WHY they dont like it without being a jerk, thats a plus

I guess spiderfan summarized the thing pretty well. I mean who wouldn't get offended if something you've put time and effort in is being criticized without any reason. But good critics are always good, they allow a different point of view of your own art and allows progression i guess.

Some people may be honest when they don't like your work but can't explain why.

Beyond that many artists (Myself included) are highly defensive.

I don't get offended at all. Sometimes it's just a style they don't like. As long as they don't just come out with "It Sucks!!" then I'm good with them not liking it. If they think it's crap as long as they can back it up with a valid critique it's all good and how we improve as an artist. If they can't do that then I think their full of crap and just jealous of something they can't do.

I finished a kids book a few months ago, my girl's aunt didn't like it. No big deal, just not her style, couldn't care less since the majority of feed back has been very good.

There's a huge difference between not liking and disrespecting. if people say something's terrible or they trash talk it without any reasoning or constructive ways of making it better, that can get to me. But if they simply don't like it. That's fine, as long as they're respectful of the skills the artist has and how much effort goes into a piece.

I totally agree with you KAD, I mean if people criticize by saying it sucks...I meant if they insult your art. If they don't like the style, fine, I mean there are some artist I don't dig the style, but I can see the talent and effort. But I get what you mean.

I don't get angry. I might get defensive, but I'm pretty aware I'm not a professional level artist on anything. I might even poke a bit of fun at myself!

Eh, it used to, but I got over it. However, I do get annoyed if someone doesn't like it and their reasoning doesn't make sense to me, or if I think their reasoning means one thing and I disagree, then they think I'm just in denial about what they're critiquing.

nope, not if its constuctive

Nah it doesn't bother me. Most of the time I don't even like my stuff.
