Aronofsky's "mother!" (Jennifer Lawrence, Javier Bardem)

I heard that people are trying to boycott this movie because what Jennifer Lawrence said about the hurricanes during an interview...

Conservatives: lol the triggered left! Total snowflakes! Don't you people care about freedom of speech???
Lawrence: Ignoring climate change has consequences.
Conservatives: AWW SHUT UP HOLLYWOOD ELITE HOW DARE YOU BLAME US YOU CONDESCENDING LITTLE **** LETS BOYCOTT HER STUFF

Plot twist, guys: We treat our environment like garbage.

I doubt this film would even appeal to those people so if those idiots do boycott the film it won't be any great loss to the film's box office.

Sneider's tweet isn't even factually accurate because they only started dating during the shoot

I can't really see a bunch of maga chuds lining up to see something called "mother!". Unless they thinks it's about Mike Pence.

Free publicity.

They did the same thing with The Wizard of Lies because of comments Robert DeNiro made and it ended up with big ratings for HBO.

Because speaking out about climate change is "politicizing tragedy" and its far better to just send useless "thoughts and prayers" and change your Facebook profile picture while voting for politicians who continue aiding the destruction of the environment.

lawrence maybe went toof ar in that hurricanes were punishment for trump but she has right to say that not just right who have free speech.and weather
we are getting no is proof climate change are real.

who knows maybe controvsary will get jenn another oscar nomination:cwink:

If her character gets put through as much horrible crap as I expect her to in this, then that'd probably do it as well. The MPAA loves it when their actors put themselves through such stuff for the sake of a role.

I mean it took Leo DiCaprio basically crawling around in the dirt and mud for months on end and drastically changing his physique, just for him to finally get his long-overdue Oscar.

Alot of critics aren't responding to her performance in an overly positive way.

I think she is a little miscast in the role from what I have heard. Lawrence struggles with subtlety, always has. Delicate acting is not her strength.

I mean she can do drama, I enjoyed watching her in Hunger Games but it's obvious that she's trying to get away from that type of thing and probably going almost too much in the other direction.

Oh, she can definitely do drama, but its strong, bombastic drama where she plays dynamic females.

I struggle to see her in the more fragile roles. Mia Farrow says so much with so little. But even here, it's like Lawrence is pushing the vulnerability on the screen.

But we'll see...

She's always gave off the vibe of trying to be an old soul, like classical Hollywood chick. Her thing for older dudes is a dead giveaway, lol.

The mixed reactions are making me excited for Thursday night. Can't wait to see what all the fuss is about.

Yeah, it's starting to look like the theories about what this flick actually is are starting to come together.

Well...my local theater pulled this from it's release schedule due to "controversial subject matter"....two days before it releases. What is in this THIRD ACT?!????

Ill pm you. Don't spoil it in here.

I have a feeling that Mother! is going to bomb

Will do decently for the OW 30-40 million, but second week will see a steep drop as negative WOM spreads

A lot of reviews are doing this film a disservice, although I hate it even when directors discuss their films 'allegories'. It could also turn a lot of potential viewers off buy making it seem too reductive. The less something like this is ATTEMPTED to be explained (by reviewers and the filmmaker) the better. Much of the 'importance' or deeper meaning will be found in the visceral reaction to this. Don't explain it away.... See the Fountain.

The Fountain is a perfect example of a film that during my initial viewing, I absolutely hated because I didn't "get it". However, in the years that followed and multiple viewings, I realized it's my second favorite Aronofsky film--Requiem being number one. Given the mix reception mother! is getting, I have a feeling I'm going to absolutely love it--especially if it's said to be Requiem for a Dream meeting a Lars Von Trier film.

I need to re-watch The Fountain. I absolutely hated it when I first saw it as well, but my husband loved it and it's his favorite Aronofsky film. I didn't get it either.
