Did she die in the end or was she just wounded? I thought she stabbed herself in the stomach? Though she had that shard of glass in her for a long time and the adrenaline she was feeling probably masked the pain...

I think the most beautiful thing about the film is that whether or not she actually died is rendered irrelevant, because it was "perfect."

But, yeah, she most likely did.

So I finally saw Black Swan today and all I have to say is damn. It's hard to sum up this film for me. When this film ended, I was speechless. In a packed theater at 1 in the afternoon, no one got up for a few seconds. I definitely had to sit there in order to fully take in what I had just watched. It was definitely a great experience watching this film in theaters.

The Wrestler was my favorite film of 2008, and though I may need more time to think about it, Black Swan tops it and I think it's the best film of 2010.

9.5/10

Pretty much, but like you said. It really didn't matter.

Also, her Black Swan persona was incredibly different. Yes she "only dances," and it is just one scene. But when she becomes the Black Swan and is on stage (and after when she swallows Cassel's face) her entire presence and persona is completely different. It is nothing like Nina and it is shocking.

I totally agree....her body movement was amazing and different than what she showed throughout the film...I really believed/felt she was the black swan...it was her transformation from sweet innocent nina to murderous daring nina..I loved it

I absolutely loved this film....Probably the best film I seen in 2010...

and she did die....

BLACK SWAN

Natalie Portman is great as the perfection obssesed ballerina Nina Sayers
Mila Kunis is great as her laid back and care free understudy Lily, and
Vincent Cassel is good as her crass, and demanding director Thomas Leroy.
But im usually more absorbed by Aronofsky's direction and storytelling but this didnt happen this time around. Its a good examination into the life of a dancer and the pressures of such a life but i was hoping for something bigger ,maybe i was expecting more because of all the raves reviews of the film.
All of the aforementioned actors deserve any awards coming their way though.
Scale of 1-10 a 7

Been wanting to see this for weeks.... so finally watched it yesterday. Very well-made film, beautifully shot overall (except some camera movements at the beginning which made me feel dizzy, lol) and very well acted, especially by Portman. But I didn't like the story, it was so depressing. I just didn't enjoy this. When I go to the movies, I expect to either have fun, be blown away or be moved. I got nothing of that from this film.

I dunno, I guess it just wasn't for me. I've never been a big fan of ballet nor am a big Portman fan, so that didn't help the experience I suppose. I also found her character so freaking annoying; she was just so... weak and fearful that I so wanted to punch her in the face! :woot: I also felt sort of manipulated with all the twist and turns near the end. It felt like the director was trying too hard to confuse me, but I wasn't buying it.

The original score was ok but nothing that great or catchy like I was led to believe. I love scores, but this was nothing special.

I gave it a 7/10 because I recognize it's a well-made film, but it just did nothing for me.

BTW, the theater was pretty full, but I heard some people saying that they thought this was going to be much different that what it was..

Interesting tidbit:

Darren Aronofky's parents are in the film. His mother, Charlotte Aronofsky, was my 4th grade teacher. Their character's names (as patrons) in the film were Mrs. and Mr. Stein, which is also my last name. I like to think its a throwback to me for the play we did in 4th grade and the poster I made for it lol.

Forgot to post that i finally saw this a couple of days ago.

Pretty good. 8/10

:awesome::awesome::awesome:

Tension rose last night at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. An altercation was started Black swan director Darren Aronofsky when he confronted chairman Armond White regarding the harsh review he gave his recent film.

Armond White accused Black Swan of being "ethnic denial" and ranked the highly acclaimed film lower than Kanye West's "Runaway" music video. In light of this review, Darren wasted no time in taking a shot at Armond when he was presenting an award to his cinematographer. He said: "Keep it up, because you give us all another reason not to read New York Press."

Following this remark, Arnonofsky apologized for his unprofessionalism and said he was "done." Armond White was not finished though, because when he arrived at the podium, he shot right back, saying: "That's all right. Darren reads me. That's all I want. And because he reads me, he knows the truth."

Apparently a little eruption occurred until Annette Benning became the calming voice as she "tearfully came close to lecturing critics for being mean."

Haha you finally used it!

Armond is the greatest (in being a troll of course)

Anyone have a link to the review? I want to read this reasoning.

I know. That's exactly why I want to see what deranged reasoning he used to get "Ethnic denial" from Black Swan.

:lmao: :lmao:

What a tool bag Armond White is. He just got humiliated in front of his colleagues by one of the premiere auteurs of our generation and got everyone laughing at him. And he admits he only cares that people read his drivel because he is obnoxiously contrarian about everything. I never thought we'd see a print troll in art criticism, but here you go. And Aronofsky had a go to. Just hilarious.

Armond White is just a troll plain and simple. Best to ignore him.

Damn...this was a good movie

she was FN NUTS

what Aronofsky did was sad and pathetic. is he making movies for critics and award shows or what?

What did he do? Take a jab at a critic who took a shot at him first?
