Short story for art ideas:
Squirrel Girl's first day at the X-Mansion could've gone better.
First : Tony Stark drags her out of her Treehouse of Squirrelitude, gets her dipped and then scrubbed down by a couple of his girlfriends, (The Blonde one was strong and proof against her claws.) then abandons her on the doorstep WITH A NOTE AND A BLANK CHECK after warning her to be on her best behavior.
Then the creepy interview with Ms Frost:
"So, what should we call you?"
"Darling,.. we need to do something with that tail,.. I'll send you to Dr. McCoy with a note to help you with some sort of shampoo."
"I'll put you in your own room until we can find out who you'd be best with."
It wouldn't have been so bad if the woman hadn't seemed to know all the answers before she could speak.
Then after getting her room going to eat in the cafeteria.
She was assaulted by so many strange smells, some of which put her on edge and had her bushing up her tail in agitation.
Food was okay,.. Overcooked for her taste, with the only perk being the amount of meat they gave her. she was so surprised at the hunk of (beef?), meat that it showed on her face,.. to which the four armed cafeteria lady quipped: "Don't worry honey,.. you want more just come back."
She found a table in a corner then kept herself strung out in an effort to just sit and not jerk and start as kids she'd class as predators walked past.
After lunch was the first real issue.
She was scanning the floorplan of the place provided with the note with MS Frost to get to Dr. McCoys Offices when she came around a corner and bumped into a girl about her size.
She was surprized and bounced off the floor where she'd fallen to dig her claws on her hands and feet a good 15 feet back from the collision up near the ceiling.
The girl she'd bumped rolled backward from the impact, came to her feet, and two steel claws came out of the back of each hand before she snarled and came charging after Squirrel girl.
Squirrel Girl had to let go and bounce across and down to the floor to avoid the wild attack of the feral girl.
It was fortunate that this wildchild was almost as slow as the rest of the people here.
three attempts to apologize later Squirrel girl gave up and concentrated on staying in one piece.
Squirrel Girl, danced, dodged, and ducked all attacks while sneaking fast glances at the map Ms Frost had given her,..... and moving when possible in the direction she wanted to go.
"For a predator,.. this girl would be better off being my friend" she thought as she finally caught sight of the office she was looking for.
As she ducked yet another swing which added another large chuck of wall to the floor, a blue blur moving closer to her speed whipped past and tackled the girl who'd wasted a good ten minutes trying to claw her into Squirrel Gobbets.
"Now, now, X-23,.. I'm sure that Logan would not appreciate your hurting the student body - Now what seems to be the problem?"
X-23,.. now wrapped up in Dr. McCoys furry arms, (He was covered from head to toe in Plush blue fur!) Looked first at McCoy, then at Squirrel Girl before replying:
"She attacked me."
"I bumped into you!" Squirrel Girl exclaimed. "And I tried to say excuse me but you wouldn't listen!"
X-23 growled in her throat and tried to wiggle loose,.. but Dr. McCoy had her firmly wrapped up.
"Oh My,.. well,... Now that we have her undivided attention, Why don't we try it again?" Opined the Furry doctor.
Squirrel Girl straightened up from her crouch clasped her hands like Tony Starks other Girlfriend had shown her, did a short slow bow and said:
"I apologise for bumping into you,.. I was in a hurry and didn't see you in time,... Please forgive me."
While the fire didn't die completly from her eyes,.. X-23 did stop struggling and as she relaxed Dr. McCoy put her back on her feet.
"iS'Okay," she finally husked under her breath toward Squirrel Girl as her claws seemed to slide up out of sight into her hands. Squirrel girl held still as the girl moved forward and both sniffed each other in passing before X-23 continued down the hallway - stepping over the debris she had caused already being picked up by a small machine with a broom.
Dr. McCoy watched the exchange with ill-concealed amusement which had Squirrel girl smiling as he motioned her toward his office.
"Emma had said you'd be paying me a visit."
As he sat her down and handed her a bowl of nuts:
"When you didn't show, I was going to go looking for you,... only to find you out in the hall making friends."
This made her laugh and he laughed with her.
The Second issue was finding a Friend in Dr. Hank McCoy.
Dr. McCoy led her out of his office and down into a basement medical smelling place, where he ran a full battery of test that if anyone else had done it, she'd have felt uncomfortable, but he kept her chuckling and exuded the same sort of concern that Tony had when he'd first come back to check up on her after their run in with Doom.
He ended the examination by tapping something into a keyboard and walking over to a wall that quickly exuded three onepiece unitards with divided skirts to make room for her tail and what looked like a gallon jug of shampoo.
"Here you go,..for your first day of school tomorrow, the Shampoo should keep your fur looking as good as mine,.." he paused,.."Without the blue highlights of course."
this kept her smiling as she was bundled back up to her room by "the Beast" as he insisted she call him since she was only answering to Squirrel Girl today.
In her room she found a class schedule left by Emma Frost.
Classes she'd rather not take aside,... "this was shaping up to not be too bad a place" she was thinking - when the entire building shook from an explosion that seemed to be right outside her window.
Her third big issue was the fight between the teachers at the school and a bunch of Super Villians who had suddenly showed up.
She was first fascinated, then horrified as she watched a short thickset man with the same sort of claws as X-23 shred a machine one attacking guy was riding on. He then retracted the claws on one hand and knocked the guy out.
"Probably her Dad" was her first thought about the twenty something people fighting out on the lawn.
the longer the fight went on, the more certain she was that maybe she didn't belong here.
After the battle and after she silently watched the grounds get repaired and cleaned up, She went to bed without going back to the cafeteria since she was still full from lunch.
"Tomorrow" she thought as she forced herself to sleep.
"Tomorrow."
