Age of Ultron Avengers: Age of Ultron Fan Review Thread (Spoilers) - Part 1

The Hulk/Black Widow thing happened because Mark Ruffalo and/or Scarlett Johansson, perhaps just Ruffalo, pushed for it. I didn't care for it either.

But I mean case in point, the movie never really does anything with that relationship following Age of Ultron other than a passing reference in Ragnarok and one little beat in Infinity War.

I don't care for family man Hawkeye either.
Wow, it was the actors' idea? Well whoever they were pitching it to should have brought Betty Ross to their attention. The fact that the movie doesn't do anything with it makes it even worse - so it was filler, a filler that makes the film annoying to watch and disregards a previously and well established romance. Two in fact, since family man Hawkeye undid the potential romance that was implied with him and Widow.
Such a waste of James Spader. You're right with the "filler" comment, this was a nothing movie that exists solely to set up the events of Civil War.
Waste of Thomas Kretschmann as well. I really didn't like Civil War either but that's a story for a different thread.

What I like about Age of Ultron as we go on in the MCU is that is the only proper full-on Avengers film from start to finish. The Avengers was an introduction that didn't have the team together until the end and Infinity War/Endgame was more about the entirety of the MCU characters. But Age of Ultron was about the Avengers. From hanging out in their headquarters to going on side missions and then taking down the main threat, it is the only Avengers film about the Avengers.

That's a good point. The Avengers was an established team. The concept of having them together and just chilling is great, unfortunately for me though the actual dialogue during the party scene was cringeworthy, a lot if not all of the time.

Aside from killing off Strucker and Quicksilver I actually enjoy Age of Ultron post Endgame more than I did when I first watched it.

Just finished my AoU rewatch...what is there to say?

Is it a step down from Avengers? Yes.

It's very apparent that this was more of a "filler" film, used to set up Civil War and the next Avengers film so i can see where the mess came from. Joss has made it known he wasn't happy with how much studio meddling there was so im not sure if that's what resulted in a weaker script?

Natasha's journey in this film was lambasted and i can't really blame people. She's your solo female Avenger at this point. Using her as a love interest is going to ruffle feathers. Going to ruffle more feathers with her equating her not being able to bare children to being a monster. Joss and pregnancies do not mix. At all. Its clear he has a certain disdain for them in entertainment.

They really tried to give Hawkeye to do but he seems forced into these films. As if they wanted the character but didn't think about what he adds to it. Sure seeing his family was nice but felt tacked on.

With all that said though, not a downright horrible film. Still enjoyable overall with a lot of great character moments.

Drinking game! Take a shot every time Age of Ultron sets up/plants the seed of something that happens later in the MCU.

I wonder how the original script looked like and how Whedon planned on bringing in Carole Danvers into the Marvel universe. Interesting that they didnt want her to come in already "established" but practically do the same thing with Black Panther in Civil War.

I think she was only supposed to show up at the end at the New Avengers facility with the rest of the team with no prior explanation of how or why she's there.

You would need an IV of alcohol starting at the beginning of the movie to cover all of them . . . . . .
