I think the only showrunner with a comparable run is Aaron Sorkin with the first 4 seasons of The West Wing, where Sorkin had a story or teleplay credit on basically every episode. However, unlike JMS, Sorkin had a full traditional series writers' room that helped him break stories, etc. It seems that Sorkin assigned himself the job of writing the full script for every episode. But, by season 2 of B5, JMS was the entire writers' room. :funny:

I blush at the comparison......I can't watch tonight, but will try to build up my lead before the inevitable @flickchick85 onslaught next week. If it was a mere 60 episodes or so, I'd have a chance, but methinks I'll be one of those quick starters out of the gate with Usain Bolt flyin' by my ass.

The only ones I can think of that even came close would be the Palladino's on Gilmore Girls. They wrote 93 of the show's then 130 eps before they left, which meant they wrote the majority of eps for each of those 6 seasons, but they definitely had a substantial writers' room to fill in the gaps.

Yes, it's a universal Centauri trait, but I'm not sure if it is genetic or cultural. It's like the plumage on a male peacock. The females are bald, having shaved their heads.
 
Mr. Garibaldi is the least looking Mr. Garibaldi I have ever seen. Every time I hear the name, I feel like they are going to talk to the hair guy. :funny:

That's funny, Mollari and Garibaldi are pretty similar names. However, I never thought of it that way. It just always seemed natural to me as a kid that the John McClane looking New York cop character would have an Italian name/background. :funny:

I loved the:

Gun in pieces. All these little pieces, and then one huge chunk that was the whole gun basically.

I am enjoying the first episode quite a bit more then the first movie. It has a nice energy to it. Feels more like a proper race against time.

They polished out a lot of the rough edges from the pilot movie. The Gathering is almost like a rough draft, proof of concept. I find Sinclair improves a lot from the pilot to the series as a character. The show continues to improve as the first season goes along. It really hits it's stride at the end of the first season/start of second, basically when JMS decided to go full control freak and write everything.

They also have a pretty good in-store explanation for the cast changeover. Dr. Kyle and the telepath Lyra being recalled to Earth because they saw inside a Vorlon's encounter suit.

P.S. I love that gun. :funny:
it's funny how the most obviously gun shaped piece is the least concealed.
 
Is there a reason the title sequence has a different aspect ratio?

I did like Sinclair in the first episode and here in the second. I don't know names well enough yet to know who was recast and who was just replaced. :hehe:

Yep, It's not even in the lamp thing proper. :lmao:

I really enjoy the second episode.

Yeah, they don't recast anyone. If an actor leaves, JMS just writes the character off.. some pilot characters actually return later on. Despite planning the series as a novel for television, JMS was realistic about actors leaving and so on, so he planned "trap door" exits for every character and devised replacements. Thankfully, he didn't have to use them much, but the few that are used are really good and work really well.

Another Mass Effect connection... Martin Sheen is a huge sci-fi fan and loved B5 and starred as a Soul Hunter on a later B5 tv movie out of his love of the show.
 
I finished through "Parliament of Dreams" last night, so I guess I have taken the lead from @InCali, which means that tonight, I get to start with "Mind War" and the introduction of the first to appear of B5's many love-to-hate, incredibly well-written antagonists:
