All right....I was watching Superman II on tv just now......and I noticed a couple things that were.....well.......kinda weak. But, it didn't bother me at all. So, I was wondering......anyone got any parts from the previous films....I'd say the first 2 films since the last 2 films are just too easy to pick on, and pick out parts of the film that IF released today would drive people ****ing nuts.

For example, Superman running away from the fight in Metropolis. It seemed like the writers just got lazy there. They couldn't come up with a creative way to get Superman and Zod with his team and Lois and Luthor back to the Fortress.

That's something I think tons of snots would pick on in these boards like crazy.

Oh, definitely there are things that'd get torn apart if the movie came out today (disregarding the effects, given when the film was made).

I was curious - I'm looking for reviews of Superman: The Movie from around the time it came out - anyone know where I could look?

I could name thousands of things from the first two movies. I would be here all day.

Yeah, true. Apart from the SFX.......which would be top notch today....everything else......I wonder if fans would hail them as much as they do now.

I would say that the obvious matte lines in Superman 4 are the worst and having the same flying shot of Superman towards the camera.

In STM, when he jumps out the window and just sort of magically changes clothes. No shirt-rip, no quick-change in the revolving door, no nothing. His Clark clothes just fade out and he's magically wearing the costume.

???

This is just revisionist history. Twenty years from now, people will say the same about the films of today.

Naturally if Superman II were released today, it would probably be a lot more pretentious and a lot less fun. :D

- General Zod and cronies being locked in by rotating hooli-hoops.
- "The Phantom Zone" being a piece of glass, that magically sucks General Zod and cronies into it. And how much of a punishment can the Phantom Zone be if it breaks... JUST like glass?
- Not even getting to see Clark discover his ability to fly for the first time.(Which is one of the best parts of the mythos) It just cuts to Superman flying from his fortress, where he also magically changed clothes from a normal man with normal clothes...to the Superman outfit??? wtf.
- Pa Kent dying. The fact that he is alive in the comics kind of seperates Superman from other heroes. He is a good old farm boy, with both parents who still watch over him. Superman isn't angst ridden like Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne. What was the point in killing father Kent off?

I will continue this later.

The junkyard fight in S3 which is the only good thing in the movie, I never understood how Clark Kent can just magically appear from a light in evil Superman's forehead.

I always hated when supes just magically made a huge S from his chest in S2

I know you said to list things only from the first two, but I cant stand in the 4th one where he goes "the people!"

What happened to Zod and his cronies?

They fell to the bottom of the Fortress.......I assume they died........

I agree that there are things wrong with Superman 2, most of the stuff shot by Lester, but running away from the fight isn't one of them. He did that not only to get them to follow him the the Fortess of Solitude, but innocent people were getting hurt on the ground as a result of the fighting. He needed to leave quick. Zod was using people as weapons.

Pa Kent dying was extremely essential to the story and the ending. He felt hopeless because even with all of his powers he couldn't save him. So he decides to use his powers for good things...like saving people. Then, at the end of the movie when Superman has been endlessly saving people but he still can't save the one that he loves, Lois, he decides that he can't let it happen to him again. So he sets the clocks back.

^ It works in the movie but thats not the best origin of Superman. Nor I think someone has to die to make Superman realize his destiny on Earth. This is making him a Marvel character. A Spider-man. Read Superman for all seasons. Seeing the destruction of the Tornado, he simply says "I could`ve done more." Simple and no one had to die.

Oh, I definately wouldn't have killed off Pa Kent, but that's the decision they made and it worked within that movie, and it allowed for a good flashback in the clouds when Lois dies.

Actually if you ever get a chance to see the Superman 2 IRC with Donner's footage restored the villians survived as they're being taken away by the arctic police, which I don't thing Lester had in mind so he left it out.

I'm not going to lie... I hated the police a lot more than them just disappearing into the cracks, which I assume means they don't make it.

yeah...he says that in II as well. sounds kinda awkward.

That's the thing though......it just looked like crappy writing. They obviously wanted to get Superman, Zod, Lois, Lex and the other two to the Fortress.......and obviously, Superman wanted to take the fight somewhere else. It just looks like the writers couldn't find another way.

I mean, I can't recall wheter or not Superman even knew that Lex had found the Fortress......and if he didn't, how'd he know they'd go there?

I dunno, just seemed like something fanboys today for kill a film over for.

I dunno, I prefer Pa Kent to live.......but I liked how it was handled in the film.

I hated reversing the world though. I thought that was just horrible.

Arctic Police?

The Arctic has police?

lol......I guess it's acceptable, since they lost their powers.

I actually would have preferred if INSTEAD of losing their powers, they'd be sent back to the Phantom Zone.

yeah...he says that in II as well. sounds kinda awkward.

I'm not sure I remember that one...
