LOS ANGELES -- Dino De Laurentiis is updating one of his old classics.
The legendary film producer said that he's creating a new franchise with "Barbarella." He produced the 1968 original with Jane Fonda.
De Laurentiis is quick to say the new film is "not a remake of 'Barbarella"' but "a completely new 'Barbarella.'"

He said that it will have "love, sex, adventure."
De Laurentiis said that the script's being worked on now, but no one's been selected to play the new Barbarella.

Seems rather pointless. Barbarella is so much of the 60s, and about the 60s, making it for 2008ish is......hmmm, actually I can see if working if it addresses promiscuity today and shows Barbarella as unable to have proper emotional relationships.

Obviously it won't.

Obviously it won't.

It could.:cmad:

The moment i saw this news at CS i thought "green will be excited and have a thread":woot:

As long as someone's naked in the opening credits i dont care

The swingin' `60s are back, baby! :D

I hope so, but in all likelyhood it will be Aeon Flux + Charlie's Angels. :(

The art direction in Aeon was good IMO, combine that with the originality of the first Charlies Angels and it could be....fun.

Its really gonna hinge on who they get to play her.
Id still go with Drew, but I guarantee names like Lohan, who I believe has already said she wants it awhile ago, are gonna pop up.:cmad:

^She needs to move out of the teenage fluff terirtory though...not saying this is the right role for her, just that she needs to do an action movie.

Lohan? She should just stay in rehab.:o

Ahh come on, the first one was fun for what it was, and yes I said original, as far as the concept went of over the topness.

Hollywood loves it when people say that.

Then I take it you haven't seen Mean Girls or A Prairie Home Companion?

seen em both:oldrazz:
Mean Girls genius' was in the script IMO, besides I feel McAdams stole the show from her.
Prairie Home Companion was no stretch in acting, she basically sat in the room with Streep and Tomlin.
Id love for her to prove me wrong I had hopes for her.

Is this movie coming out before Wonder Woman? It just might.

I think they should cast a blonde actress.

Peter Webber Directing Barbarella
Source: Variety
February 4, 2007

Variety has a follow-up on last week's news saying that Hannibal Rising director Peter Webber will helm the new version of Barbarella for producer Dino De Laurentiis.

"Female James Bond -- in outer space," is how De Laurentiis described the project. Barbarella will shoot at Morocco's CLA studios.

De Laurentiis is also working on The Last Legion, Virgin Territory and an as-yet-untitled underwater epic about a killer whale, written by Tom and Jez Butterworth. The producer expects to have a script for the latter to be ready by March.
