Why in the hell are Baroness and Duke old lovers and Cobra Commander is her little brother? This is so stupid I can't fathom why Hamma would say it was okay to him. Hell, didn't Baroness and Cobra Commander have a kid? I just think it was sloppy story telling even for being an adaption of the comic/cartoon to make it new and hip. I HATE Sommers and his films. He is a hack like MSJ and McG and Paul Anderson. These people should be shunned in Hollywood and so should there writers.

They wanted to add some new twists. I had mixed feelings about these changes too, but I think ultimately it would have been a little boring if you could already known all of the revelations about the characters just having watched the show and read the comics. It's not that one way is "cool and hip" and the other is "old and outdated," it's about keeping things fresh for people who already know the franchise.

I don't care for "New" twists and surprises though. Some people dont know the mythos. For example, I can't tell HOW many people still think the Joker killed Bruce's parents even after Begins. That's how much of an impact cinema makes. People don't go back and re-read this stuff for the most part. Changing it now almost makes it offical and than people who do go back think it's weird to have them doing it in the comics cause now they are related.

It's just Hollywood and it sucks. I guess Seth Green said it best last night at the Robot Chicken Tour, "It's okay, even if the movie sucks the comics are still cool." But that to me only impacts people over like 24 or 25.

GIJoe has always have multiple takes on it. It is a toyline first and foremost. The comic and toon existed to promote the toyline. That's how it is. Details can be changed, but throughout time, agreed upon character traits for characters have sort have become understood.

The new take on CC is merely getting him out from under the Snake Eyes thumb. Its just so every freaking connection isnt pointed towards Snake Eyes. I am fine with it. Besides, Duke, the GIJoe poster boy, is now firmly placed as the opposing force to CC. Their two sides to the same coin, good vs evil.

This is a movie. It provides more of an emotioanl connection and what could lead into a sequel. And who cares what the GA thinks? If they say something wrong, correct them, they don't care. They still won't pick up a comic book or toy anyway.

If any of the Joes is gonnna get with Baroness it might as well be Duke, since he never seems to have a consistent love interest anyway. I'm sure that somewhere there was a shipper who wet themselves with joy when they found out about it, though. ;)

Destro really looks like a chump in all this as Rex has to brainwash the Baroness so she'd give Destro the time of day.

i had no gripes with their connection. Baroness dating Duke ads a little depth and tension. CC being her brother...is whatever. if they had a better story to tell between three it probably could have worked. i just hated- HATED!- Baroness becoming this sympathetic, unwilling pawn committing evil acts against her control. Baroness is a B****, through and through. you can modify characters slightly to fit the story to tell, but you don't completely change who they are. and im not even a real fan of the series.

I agree with most of that javi. Baroness was a brutal ruthless HBIC, no doubt. She was made weak and lovey dovey, it's sad. Destro is a ruthless general type who takes nothing from no one and as far as I can recall had the joes and CC under his thumb and at his mercy. He always kind of made CC look like his ***** for the most part until CC got sly and did something. In this film he was basically made Destro by CC and pleading for mercy and whining for answers. The mask should not BE his face.

It's just waayyy too much artistic liberty taken here, bottom line. This should just be titled GI Joe by Stephen Sommers, The Rise of Cobra. I could have accepted some of this as a prelude to what I grew up with for 27 years, but it veered off the beaten path way way too much for me to accept it in that light.

I agree...totaly stupid and not necessary. It would have been nice for Baroness to have that sexy accent too, but I could live without it.

The whole thing stunk of some hollywood fool saying, "There needs to be some kinda love twist so the audience will care about this character and that character bla bla bla blowstuffup power suits bla bla..."

Like I said before and someone else did as well, just think of it as an alternate universe. Which is basically what theses movies are.(Same for Batman,Spider-Man etc)
I actually didnt mind the idea of Ana and Conrad being lovers at one point. It added to the story I think. Rather than just ''good vs bad'', theres was more depth to it. It makes it harder for Duke to fight the enemy knowing his lover is on thier side.
Rex being Ana's brother though, that wasn't needed. I think it would have been better if he was just good friends with Duke at some point or even make him jealous of Duke being with Ana.(Maybe Rex had a fling with Ana, but she ended up being with Duke, his best friend)

I didn't mind their past relationships. What bugged me was that Baronness was just programmed to be evil and then turned into a good girl at the end. That was incredibly lame.

That was awful. I cringed at that part. "Wtf is she doing!? UGH"

Yeah the good girl thing was disappointing, but it made CC seem like even more of a tool so it sorta worked.

I think it would of been better if she just realized what she was doing was wrong on her own and become more caring on her own rather that having being programed. If they wanted her to become good, they should have let her progress to that stage on her own.

Chill out folks. You got the best possible version of the Baroness. No one would believe a spoiled rich kid aristocrat who earned her title Baroness by family lineage was hell bent on revenge on the world and one man in particular after she mistakenly thought that man had murdered her humanitarian brother after walking in on him holding a gun in a roomful of dead people, when in reality that man had killed the smugglers/ gun-runners who had just executed her brother because he had found out that they were selling the food and supplies for the poor/refugees to buy guns. These things don't happen in movies.

maybe not, but then give her an origin that makes her a villain not a puppet.

I will piss people off when I say I only watched the cartoon as a kid and have vague memories of Duke, Snake Eyes, Scarlett and the two forms of Cobra Commander fighting and chatting with either. AS well as the PSAs at the end. I honestly have NO recollection of the Destro and Baroness characters.

So, these changes didn't bother me. I honestly was fine with Duke and Baroness teaming up at the end. It was entertaining in a cheesy kind of way and fun. Her being a femme fatale is fine, but it was an okay twist I thought. I would have loved for Sommers to do his Bond movie wink and nod further and have Duke shack up with Baroness in the mini-sub after the end a la The Spy Who Loved Me (complete with Hawk and co. stumbling in on them).. But I love Bond movies, so that's me.

However, having no memory of the characters' backstories or half the characters for that matter, what do I know?

To be honest...I like what they did with them. This little side-story adds a lot to the characters. Which to me was much needed.

It didn't add much depth or tension at all since Tatum is a poor actor and had no chemistry with Sienna Miller.

Well, it did add some depth. Without it, it would be JUST action and barely any story. And it made the characters more dimentional.

That's sort of ******** and it shows that you clearly know nothing about these characters if the only way to create "depth" is by making Baroness' Duke's lover and Cobra Commander her kid brother.
