Batman: Arkham City

Well it was (admittely) rather ignore of me to not add the possibility that Arkham has actually moved to the city, tho i didn't personally find the Asylum itself in a bad shape, just the guest room which was turned into Joker's throne room.

I don't know; it seemed like the entire island had it's guts ripped out by Ivy's plants.

While I like the fact we will have a larger environment, I hope they don't do GTA-style free-roaming. Something like the last game, but bigger.

I'm excited for this. I loved the first game and I'm glad they're not rehashing the original idea. Either a. they moved the asylum to a section of the city in its buildings or b. it's a metaphor for Gotham being turned into an asylum itself. Joker has control over the city. Reminds me of Joker's last line in A Serious House On A Serious Earth.

I took a screen shot near the beginning of the trailer before the guy gets thrown out the window. Not saying that the spray paint writing does in fact mean Joker has control of the city, or at least the really seedy parts of Gotham like crime alley. Just thought it was kind of cool.

lol...the game would never come out if they put the amount of detail they put in the first game in a gta sandbox game..

Not if they have enough time to work on it.

That's not really the case. You simply won't get the level of detail from Arkham in an open world game. Not even the most fully realized open worlds have that level of detail. Look at Assassin's Creed II. It is very highly detailed, but not the way Arkham is.

Of course, I'm sure many will happily trade detail for an open world. Personally, I'm torn. I like the Metroid approach taken in the first game, but an open world Assassin's Creed-meets-Splinter Cell style Batman game would be pretty fantastic, also. However, I don't expect them to reinvent their wheel; the first game was a Metroid style game world, and I expect this one will be, too.

Don't forget AC2 suffers from alot of screen tearing. -___- (Atleast on PS3)

I played on the 360 and didn't find tearing to be a problem. When a game is multiplatform, I generally go for the 360 version, because I prefer the controller.

I actually think Assassin's Creed would be a good template for a Batman game, with the free running, climbing buildings, perching on said buildings, breaking up muggings, etc. The problem is the environment would have to be massive, much bigger than the one in either AC. But I'm perfectly content with the Arkham Asylum format, it's insanely rich with detail and in some ways more intimate.

This trailer got me very excited! I didn't expect it so soon. I figure it's because the basic mechanics of the game are already in place.

Like some people have said, I would likle more characters to play as... but only in Challenge Mode. I don't wanna play as anyone other than Batman in Story Mode, but I have absolutely no problem having four or five other characters and some alternate costumes in Challenge Mode. Hell, throw Jason Todd in there! I don't care. Just don't make me play as anyone other than Batman in the story.

EDIT: About the playing field... I don't care as long as they make it fun. They could just keep assing challenge stages to the first game and not do a sequel for all I care.Just makie it fun and give me an area roughly the size of Arkham in the first game.

I prefer the metaphorical idea of Gotham being like the asylum, but an Escape From New York idea is interesting.

And the former would be more logical. I mean, why in the hell would you even but the psyho's where they aren't suppose to be, where they were trying to get them away from the people? To me, Joker I think the Joker's plan is bigger than the first game. There's a second piece to it, which we could see here.

Omg, I just loved that teaser. I can't wait for this! I was pretty surprised to see a teaser already. And I was really surprised to see the Joker. I thought that if there was going to be a sequel, that he wouldn't be involved since he got beaten pretty badly in Arkham Asylum.

Villains:
So from what I saw in the trailer, I think we will see:

- Black Mask
- Two-Face
- The Joker
- Harley Quinn
- Penguin

And what I assume we will see, based off of the events in the first game:

- Killer Croc/Bane/Scarecrow (I'm still wondering if we could see all 3 of them or only 1)

What I hope to see:

- Riddler
- Catwoman
- Mr. Freeze
- Clayface

Okay, now about the story:

I'm thinking that the city, or a part of the city, will be torn in a gang war. On one side you'll have Penguin's men and on the other side you'll have Black Mask's men. Meanwhile you've got Two-Face doing his thing and other minor villains get encounterd as well. I would like to keep The Joker in his chair, recovering and pulling the strings, but I can't see him being the final boss, because how in the name of God can he give Batman a fight? He looks like an 80 year old man! I would rather have him recover and being set-up for a return in a possible Arkham Asylum 3. And The Riddler would be pretty cool, too because I really enjoyed solving the riddles in the first game.

This must take place very shortly after the first game, considering Joker is still recovering. Also, Harley is wearing the same outfit. I highly doubt they would get a new asylum up and running in that amount of time, so I'm leaning towards the city being the "asylum".

Very excited though, no matter what it turns out to be. Glad to see Joker and Harley back, as well.

Yeah, but Joker looks aged. So I'm wondering if it's a side-effect or something...

most likely they will add new weapons to batman's arsenal. i just hope they don't do something silly at the beginning of the game where: oh! blah blah happened and batman must go retrieve all of those weapons again, but at least he'll have new ones too!!!
hopefully, the game picks up right where it left off. i'm not going to guess at what/where the story takes place, but i can guarantee that they won't make it a sandbox game. why fix something that wasn't broke? the first game was stunning, the best comic book game to date, and set the bar high for any comic book related games to follow. don't get me wrong, a sandbox game with batman would be a dream come true, but our current systems cannot handle all that it would take to make AA2 not equal the mess that was Spiderman 3 or Web of Shadows.

I would want this game to be "sandbox" style play so that you could go and fight throughout the city and that the main crime would be the Joker trying to break criminals out of AA and that is the main objective of the game: to stop Joker. Along the way, you have to combat "mini-bosses" like the Penguin, Black Mask, and Two-Face (after defeating one, it would open up a new portion of the city). I think that would allow for the use of Batman's vehicles as well (Batmobile, Batplane, and Batbike). I think having the next game go wider rather than constraining it to AA itself (because the city-confined AA looked smaller than the island) would be adventageous to increasing the fun-factor of the gameplay.

Probably all the other characters that were considered still "present" should be in AA: Clayface, Poison Ivy, and Zsaz. I can't remember all the others but there are some that would be considered "at large" which would be Bane and Scarecrow (along with Joker, of course). I think these villains will definitely be a part of the next game.

Rumours now going around. The Titan chemical turns Gothams citizens into crazies (similar to the enemies in Resident Evil 4 and 5),the chemical has been acquired by the Joker, but this happens later on. The game is simply going to be called "Batman: Gotham City. But these are just rumours.

Sure would be nice if those rumors were true. Although, I saw in the trailer the thugs looked like the ones Joker used in the first game from Blackgate, not sure if there will be other enemies this time (I sure hope so). As I said earlier, confining this game to Arkham again would be like replaying the prior game. Someone said that to expand the game is like reinventing the wheel; however, it is actually being a good video game developer. You don't continually go to the same setting game after game or else it gets monotonous and boring (and you lose tons of money once you get crappy reviews). The best way to acheive a good quality string of games by a single developer is by adding things to the game that creates a veritable gameplay and maximizes enjoyment; by adding new maps (not just a different Arkham but also parts of the city, if not the whole city itself) would be beneficial because it generates a freshness to the game itself and players won't just say "oh, I've done this before in Batman: AA." The last thing a developer wants is to have a flop of a game when you have a really great game from which you are stepping off. There are so many different avenues that this game could take and I hope that the rumors have some basis from the actual game; it would be a shame to miss such a great opportunity to catepault this game into a much broader area rather than simply containing the game into a sectored-off portion of the city reserved for the new Arkham Asylum.
