Batman: Arkham City

^ Look into a wired connection.

That's what i tried.

Anyway, played the game a little last night, seems good so far, though i've only gotten up to a dying Joker, so i'm guessing i have a long way to go haha.

Have to say.... I am severely under-welmed after defeating the story mode. It was great...but WAY too short and not enough depth given to a villain like Strange. Not enough emphasize or consequence of him knowing Batman's identity...

And as for [BLACKOUT]Ra's al Ghul[/BLACKOUT]....he's my favorite villain in the Batman universe, and they didn't really do him any great service... It was fairly obvious that he was behind it....and we don't even get a true fight with him in the end? [BLACKOUT]Clayface[/BLACKOUT], WHILE AWESOME and a great surprise, was the final showdown? Really? C'mon?!

[BLACKOUT]Talia[/BLACKOUT] is left dead, [BLACKOUT]Joker[/BLACKOUT] is dead, and [BLACKOUT]Ra's[/BLACKOUT] dies without us even being able to fight him.... I felt that after that all happened that there was still much story left to go...but it turns out only side missions... Side missions are great...but I feel like this story needed just a little more...

[BLACKOUT]Talia and the League of Assassins [/BLACKOUT] just really shows up without much reasoning as to why....

[BLACKOUT]There's a Lazarus Pit[/BLACKOUT] right under Gotham? Really?

[BLACKOUT]Ra's al Ghul's[/BLACKOUT] voice was awful....

[BLACKOUT]Huge Strange[/BLACKOUT] was severely under developed and not made into any bit of the legitimate threat he should have been.

[BLACKOUT]Two-face[/BLACKOUT] was a colossal disappointment. We see him in the beginning for about 5 minutes and then he's barely heard from again, and never seen. After all of the trailers, I really figured we'd get SOMETHING more from him. Especially after [BLACKOUT]Mayor Sharp[/BLACKOUT] is brought onto the island....

The positives:

[BLACKOUT]Penguin[/BLACKOUT] was really awesome.
[BLACKOUT]Grundy[/BLACKOUT] was a welcome addition to a Batman game.
[BLACKOUT]Catwoman[/BLACKOUT] was great, but again...not enough. They billed her as a much larger character...
[BLACKOUT]Clayface[/BLACKOUT] was a great surprise when he appears.
[BLACKOUT]Robin[/BLACKOUT] gets a great moment.
The voice acting (aside from [BLACKOUT]Ra's[/BLACKOUT]) and music was top notch.
[BLACKOUT]Bane [/BLACKOUT] as an ally.
The [BLACKOUT]Deadshot[/BLACKOUT] missions.
Combat...gliding, etc. all great.

Really my only major complaint is that while some characters....
-[BLACKOUT]Talia, Mr. Freeze, Joker, Penguin, Clayface, Bane, Mad Hatter[/BLACKOUT] were all great within the story and utilized very well, and given enough to display what they have....

[BLACKOUT]Catwoman, Two-face, Hugo Strange, and Ra's Al Ghul[/BLACKOUT] were all a little short changed... And when two of those are the games "main" villains...and two of those are Batman icons....well, it's not a good thing.

Hopefully as I play through side missions more will pop up and elevate my position....

As it stands: as GREAT as this game is...and make no mistake, it is great. I felt MORE immersed in Arkham Asylum.... Maybe it was because it had more of a straight forward narrative with clearer goals/objectives.... I don't know. Both are great games, but I might still like the original more...

Surprised and a bit sad to hear [BLACKOUT]Two Face[/BLACKOUT] is so under used. They seemed to be presenting him as a major villain in the game.

Yeah. They showcased the first few minutes of the game a lot in the build-up promotions and kept the rest relatively secret. I assumed he'd have a slighter bigger part later on, but oh well.

Indeed. I really wished he would have been more crucial to the story. [BLACKOUT] Penguin [/BLACKOUT] playing such a big role was something I didn't expect, but I was pleasantly surprised with.

Overall I think the game did a great job of incorporating all the awesome characters that weren't in AA, and giving them all, for the most part, great classic character moments. All the Mr. Freeze stuff was great, one of my favorite parts of the game. But, like Robin said, there were a few characters that felt wasted and barely used.

This game had quite the body count, it will be interesting where they take the story in the third.

Now I'm working on all the damn Riddler trophies/riddles. :cmad:

This game's story is brilliant, although the thought "A lazarus pit is under Gotham City?" did pass through my mind.

Just found out that I am going to have to wait until November 18th for mine... PC gamer here.
But at least I got it for £21.85 on pre-order.

What's another month, right?

:waa:

Just finished the story-mode and while, overall the game is great, the ending was a bit underwhelming. A more in-depth look at it in the spoiler box, and there are major spoilers.

Joker dieing wasn't that well executed. There were some great moments(especially the last phone call during the credits), but overall for attempting something with so much potential to be unbelievably epic, it was a bit of a downer. Joker is my favorite character in all of the Batman mythos and I was sad to see him go, but if the story was well enough executed, I would have had no problem seeing him die. the story was getting there, but they didn't quite reach the theatrics I would expect coming from Batman's final tango with The Joker. My other major problem with the ending is the fact that Batman's love, Talia dies, but he decides to carry out the body of his arch-enemy instead. Seems a bit odd.

Still, the story overall was still pretty exciting and well thought out. IMO, game-play is more important in games than the stories anyway, and the gameplay is top notch. Overall, I loved the story-mode, but couldn't help and think about the possibilities of it being greater.

Another note on the end:

Anyone think The Joker who died at the end is Clayface again? Batman and the camera blackout after Clayface falls into the Pit. We don't know what could have happened. Perhaps Clayface wanted to finish his performance off with a bang. Regardless of whether Joker's dead or not, Clayface falling in the Lazurus Pit has got to mean something for a sequel, I have no ideas what though.

Bought it today, finally; I love it to bits!!! Best game EVAH!!! :woot:

I agree. There's got to be a way out here. When Batman visits Joker the first time early on, when he's injected with the tained blood, I was a bit shocked, thinking that he was actually dead - with Harley crying over his body. I thought, gee wiz, Hamill didn't do much this time! And they did their little switcheroo on us. So I wouldn't rule anything out.

Ras Al Ghul plunged his sword into his own chest, fell on that gate from a great height - and Batman commented to Oracle that he'll be needing a Lazarus Pit. And I suppose Joker could be thrown in a pit himself if any other loopholes are out of the question.

Anyway, Batman thinks Joker is dead. And pretty much so do we. The angle of who takes over in a post Joker Gotham can be explored in Arkham 3, with the clown prince returning at the end (?) to mix that all up again. It depends on what happened to his body when Batman walked out with him. And if it was even him (!)

Did anyone else notice the

Yes. In the end credits she sings "Hush little baby, don't say a word. Momma's gonna kill for you the whole damn world."

On Joker's fate - if it was two Clayface Jokers in the final fight, I'd say this is a Joker scheme to fake his death. Joker did say the only way to outwit the world's greatest detective was to be obvious, or something like that.

I've been grappeling around the city after the story, and you hear goons talk about Joker's demise. Interesting comments. One guy pretty much shrugs it off, saying he's died before. :woot:

Bane's side mission was quite good. Just completed it then. The ally aspect was refreshing. As was the end fight team-up. Though this Bane continues to be a bit of a silly sausage. I don't really understand why he even told Batman about the Titan if he wanted to collect it all for himself.

Question: As someone with an XBOX 360, how can i gain access to any other Batman skins?

Side-note: My least favorite aspect of the game is finding my way back to the streets after a mission is completed. It's so easy to get lost!

Nightwing pack is coming as DLC November 1. Robin pack is coming November 22. Dates aren't confirmed for the rest, but it's coming.

Really enjoyed the game, one of the biggest beefs I had with AA was how easy it was to dispatch of goons, but I actually found the goons pretty challenging when swarming on you in AC, even more challenging than some of the bosses.

Favourite boss battle in terms of enjoyment was Freeze. Absolute classic stuff empathising Batman's technical skill and intelligence while also making Freeze a borg type machine that can't be fooled with the same trick twice.

Most challenging for me was Solomon Grundy, that ****er wouldn't die. :awesome: Joker and his thugs a close 2nd.

I actually found the final boss in Clayface easy, beat him in one go.

Really digging the side stories, that's another plus over AA in that there's plenty left to do after finishing the main storyline.

Great game, definitely my most enjoyable romp on the PS3 yet.

The thug fights are mega hard in AC. I actually died several times in fights with large packs of them.

I've finished story mode and all the side missions. I'm rounding up all of Riddler's riddles now. I've got about 45 left to get. Some of them have been insanely difficult and frustrating to get. Ten times harder than AA's ones.

I loved this game. The cinematic feel was taken to a new depth after Arkham Asylum, and the story, while it had it's tradeoffs, was in general amazing.

Did anyone else
have Catwoman leave Batman and hear Oracles broadcast over the end credits? It was fascinating to hear that in that alternate future, the Joker would have won, not Strange or Ra's. She's repeatedly saying that the Joker's army is overrunning the city, and that Wayne Manor has been compromised, and in the end says that the Joker has won. Makes you wonder what he had in contingency...

I too think
Mr. Freeze was the best boss battle. Not the hardest, but the most true to character and enjoyable. Though that brings up one glaring error in my opinion. When Batman frees Freeze from Penguin, he takes his (I guess cooling gel) and is threatening Victor with it by dripping some away. That really stood out as against character IMO. Batman would have found another way of getting what he wanted, gambling with Fries' life just isn't his style. Especially to hear the voice of Kevin Conroy behind it, it was somewhat disappointing. And whatever becomes of Nora? Batman promised to bring her back to Victor from the Joker's hideout, but then he get's rubble piled on him and immediately goes off to fight Strange and then Joker.

It's a side-mission. You find her location and go tell Freeze she's safe. You can go back later and find him looking at her, and scan them both for a riddle.

Does anybody have an extra skins code for the Batman Beyond skin?? Out of the Hype!ness of your heart it'd be much appreciated

Was anyone else a little confused at...

...exactly when did we find out about protocol 10? WE cut to the Catwoman/Strange safe-crack and then back and suddenly Protocol 10 is in effect? Did I miss something? When was Protocol 10 discussed or revealed to Batman?

Beat story mode today; orgasmic wonder of a video game. Loved every bit; very much in relation to a Long Halloween/Hush like like tangle of villains, but in the same done extremely well. All the voice acting was PERFECT, except for Ra's Al Ghul; ever since the cartoons and Liam Neeson, I would have anticipated a better voice actor.

But I love it!!!!!!! :woot: :hrt:

Nope never. You just wake up and apparently its just a bunch of helicopters blowing **** up. Sort of disappointing.
