Yeah, if there's a big possibility of it sucking, it's how little time they have to tell this story. I'd think with a big event like this, they'd give it, like, six issues.
Actually if anything this prevents Daniel from giving us filler material like you'd normally find in a 6 to 12 issue maxi series since he has to maintain a much quicker pace. I'm glad they only gave him 3 this is how blockbuster events should work, quick and easy that leaves no room for any real boredom in the series.
They've said that you can read it by itself and still get it, but, considering DC's history with that...scan the other issues at your store, just in case.
Do you even read DC? they're notorious for having worthless tie-in's. Hell as recently as last year lot of people lambasted them because the R.I.P. tie-in's while good in their own rights served no purpose when it came to the main narrative. Same with Final Crisis and the majority of the tie-in's not written by Morrison (save for Resist and Secret Files). I actually prefer that method as I don't have to waste money on stuff I'm not even interested in just to get the big picture.
At the same time though this event actually has tie-in's that intrigue me at least on paper. I'm actually curious about reading the first issue of the Azrael series since Morrison's concept of Lane intrigued me and I'd like to see how another writer plays with that. I will also get Commisioner Gordon and Oracle: The Cure when I visit my store tomorrow because frankly because I enjoy reading about those characters.
