Left Analog - Move Batman/Nightwing
The left analog stick control the movement of the heroes at all times from sneaking, walking, jogging and then to running. It’s all controlled by the amount of force applied to the analog stick. Turning it in any direction will make the heroes turn and move in that same direction.
Left Analog Click - Stealth (toggle)
Clicking in this analog stick will toggle on the stealth movements by Batman and Nightwing. This will allow both heroes to move much quieter than normal but at the loss of some speed. To return movements back to normal simply click the analog stick in a second time.
Right Analog - Move Camera
Moving this analog stick will make the camera move around on screen. To will allow you to get a better view of all actions on screen and also to peak around corners where you normally wouldn’t be able to see.
To snap the camera back into place, simply tap the B Button.
Right Analog Click - Jump/Double Jump/Glide
Because most people would like to get the best possible view of their heroes jumping or gliding over Gotham City, clicking in this analog stick will also allow your hero to jump and perform the same as the B Button.
Left Trigger - Grappling Hook/Zip Hook
Pulling in this trigger will make Batman and Nightwing fire their grappling hook toward the closest building (depending on the direction of the left analog stick). Once the grappling hook has been fired, Batman and Nightwing will swing off (direction control is done with the left analog stick). To release from the hook, either click in the left analog stick to drop off, or click in the right analog stick or B Button to jump off the swing.
To perform a zip hook, quickly pull in the trigger twice. The heroes will pull out and fire the grappling hook directly above them to suspend themselves. Once in this state, Batman and Nightwing can control their height and speed on the line with the left analog stick.
When locked-on to an enemy, the heroes will fire the grappling hook at the target and tie them up. They can pull the enemy in closer by pulling the left analog stick toward the hero.
As the grappling hook needs to be reloaded after every shot, a slight pause will happen between each shot.
Left Bumper - Lock-On/Off (toggle)/Aim
Pressing this button in once, Batman and Nightwing will lock-on to a target that is the closest to them. Once in this mode, simply flicking the right analog stick in a different direction will target a different enemy on screen. To unlock from a target, press the button in a second time.
If this button pressed and held down, the camera will move in closer to the heroes to an over the shoulder view. From here, you can aim weapons/gadgets around with the left analog stick. This will give the heroes better accuracy and more control.
Right Trigger - Sprint/Block/Counter Attack
Pulling in this trigger will give Batman and Nightwing that little extra speed while running and falling. By holding this trigger in while moving, obstacles around the heroes will seem like child’s play. Gaps will be dived over, stairs will be scaled in a matter of moments and building posts can be used like monkey bars. Building rooftops will be like a playground of unbelievable opportunities. The major draw back to this though is the increased volume of movement it creates for the heroes. Enemies will be more alerted to your presences with continues use and can then gang up in numbers. The element of surprise will no longer be yours.
As experience in this ability is gained, your movements will slowly produce less and less noise.
While in a fall, pulling this trigger in and holding will make Batman and Nightwing tuck their arms back and dive forward. This will increase their falling speed and make the heroes are harder target to hit.
During combat when locked-on to a target, pulling this trigger in will make Batman and Nightwing block. Performing a block at just the right time will execute a counter attack and use the enemy either against an object, or against another enemy next to him.
Right Bumper - Action Button/Interrogation/Drag
This is the action button. It can be used to enter windows, doors, pressing against a wall or even pick up clues left at crime scenes…the list goes on. To do all this, an icon will appear on screen whenever the button can be used. For example if standing by a door, an icon will appear on screen. Pressing the button will open the door and Batman or Nightwing will walk through. If more than one option is available to the hero at once, like open the door or pick up a clue, holding this button down will pause the game and bring up a mini menu of the 2 choices. Simply move the left analog stick toward the action of choice.
To interrogate an enemy, his health meter must be in the red, or taken by surprise (from above or behind). Pressing this button in will grab hold of the enemy and the heroes can then dish out the questions. Using the left and right analog stick, they can move around and apply pressure to whatever action they are doing until the desired information is obtained. Pressing this button in again will break up the interrogation by letting go of the enemy, or knocking him out…it’s your choice. While interrogating an enemy, you will not only be vulnerable to attacks, but your noise levels will also increase.
When an enemy is knocked out and the heroes need to move the body, stand over the enemy and an icon will appear. Press this button and drag them around until you wish to drop them by pressing the same button again.
X Button - Attack Heavy
This button is Batman and Nightwing’s heavy attack. It is a little slower, but deals out a lot more pain. You can string combos together by tapping this button in motion with the A button and even charge it up by holding down the button a little longer.
Y Button - Enter/Exit Vehicle
Pressing this button in while standing next to your vehicle will make Batman and Nightwing jump into it. If the vehicle is on autopilot and driving below you on the streets, an icon will appear on screen to inform you that you can press and hold the Y button to leap into the vehicle and get a quick get away.
To exit the vehicle, press the button and the heroes will get out. Pressing and holding the button in though will use the ejector seat to shoot the heroes into the air.
A Button - Attack Weak/Use Weapon/Gadget/Throw
This button is Batman and Nightwing’s weak attack. It is a lot faster, but deals out less damage to the enemies. You can string combos together by tapping this button in motion with the X button.
This button will also use weapon/gadget’s once they have been selected with the left and right Dpad until used out or unselected.
When an enemy has been grabbed, pressing this button will throw the enemy in the direction facing.
X + A Button - Grab
Pressing both of these buttons at the same time during combat will make Batman and Nightwing grab the targeted enemy in a lock. To throw them, simply press the A button and beat them up with the X button.
While in stealth mode and sneaking up behind an enemy, pressing these buttons in will grab hold of the enemy and allow you to silently take them away. To knock them out, press and hold the X button to charge up an attack and knock them out by releasing the button.
B Button - Jump/Glide
Pressing this button in will make Batman and Nightwing jump. The longer its held, the higher the heroes will jump. During a jump or fall with another press of the button, Batman will throw out his arms and grab hold of his cape allowing him to glide. Batman cannot gain height while gliding. The direction of his gliding is control by the left analog stick. To stop gliding, let go of the B button.
One of the greatest parts to Nightwing though is his ability to ride the air currents. This means that once the B button has been pressed a second time to glide, Nightwing will stretch out his arms and ride the air currents. Using the left analog stick, he can climb and dive forward losing and gaining speed with each movement. The only problem is, Nightwing needs to be at a reasonable height or he will just fall.
Dpad Left - Weapon/Gadget Select & Unselect
Press this button to open your utility belt and select a weapon/gadget that will then be used with the A button. The game will pause for a moment while you scroll through the weapon/gadgets. To unselect the weapon/gadget, simply click this button again.
Dpad Up - Vision Mode
Built into the eyepieces of each hero is a multi-vision mode. Batman and Nightwing can change between these at will, but a built in meter at the bottom of the screen will limit the usage time. Pressing up on the Dpad will switch between Normal (no usage time), Infrared and Night Vision modes.
Dpad Down - Autopilot Vehicle
All vehicles that Batman and Nightwing have in the Batcave are built in with an autopilot feature. Pressing and holding down on the Dpad will pause the game and bring up a list of 3 options, each of which is hot keyed to the X, Y and B buttons. Pick up, Hide and Cave.
Once the option has been chosen, game control will be back to you. If Pick up has been selected, a time will pop up above the tachometer informing you of the ETA. If Batman and Nightwing take off from the area, the vehicle will continue to track your location and meet up with you. The vehicle will continue to move along with the hero until the down button is pressed again or the vehicle has been entered.
If Hide is chosen, the vehicle will take off to a pre-determined position on the map. This position can be chosen when the map screen is up.
If Cave is chosen, the vehicle will return to the Batcave without you. This should mainly be done if the vehicle experiences damage and Batman and Nightwing are still needed on a mission. It can also be sent to the Batcave for Alfred to work on upgrades.
Dpad Right - Weapon/Gadget Select & Unselect
Press this button to open your utility belt and select a weapon/gadget that will then be used with the A button. The game will pause for a moment while you scroll through the weapon/gadgets. To unselect the weapon/gadget, simply click this button again.
Back Button - City Map
Pressing this button once will bring up an overhead 3D view of the map. It will show all important locations and missions, vehicles and meeting points and also allow you to set autopilot positions for vehicles.
Using the left and right analog stick as well as left and right triggers will allow you to scroll and zoom the map.
Start Button - Pause/Options
Pressing this button in will pause the game and bring up the options menu. From here you can adjust volume, picture and special features of the game. You can also go into the character menu screen and see all experience points gained as well as equipment and message gained.
