Does anybody else own this dvd?

I'm really bothered by the odd and really ugly choice of superimposing photoshopped pieces from the Burton films on the cover and back, and Jim Lee style Batman silhouettes onto the dvd labels.

The two people on the cover look nothing like the actual characters in the serial (not just the outfits, but the faces). They've just photoshopped together bits and pieces from the other films and comics.... For reference, this is what they look like on the show.

They made a conscious attempt to fool the public into thinking the dvd is something other than what it actually is... Not only that, it looks really ugly in the process.

I just can't work out whether this is an attempt to trick people into thinking its very similar to the Burton or Nolan movies?

They should have played up the aspect that its a 1940s serial (dorky outfits, old bat logo, black and white cover), instead of pretending its something else. It might move more copies if people buy it for the retro value, instead of presenting it in the Burtonesque design of the dvd cover?

Am I just being crazy here?

When I find the time I'm going to put together a custom dvd cover for this.

I think both serials have COOL cover art

^I was thinking what Shadowbat was thinking as well...

Don't know how you can say that though, considering that the image on the dvd cover has nothing to do with the serial.

I just can't work out why they'd 'modernise' the image

Theres only about 30 people who will buy it anyway. Thats not including the people who think "oh its Batman this will be good", then put it in the DVD player and are pissed off.

Im sure there are more than 30 people that have bought this.:whatever: There has been a demand for the serials for years, alot of fans were happy when this one was announced. If someone gets pissed off at these, then they shouldnt buy it to begin with, because they obviously dont know what the serials are.

Cover art is cover art. So they modernized it. Who cares. Really. If it gets the passer by to pick it up and look at it, then they have done their job at marketing it.

I like serials, I enojoyed this, and I thought the cover was fine.

I'm fine with the cover art for both serials. Though if I had to choose, the 1943 serial dvd cover art is more to my liking. But no complaints on both.

But you guys can't deny that the art is misleading.

Imaging being 12 y/o you asked for a Batman DVD for Christmas.
Your mom (Who has even less knowledge about Batman than you do) buys it as a present, out off all the dvd's she can get she buys this one.

You pop it in the player and all you see is the Batmite chronicles in black and white!

I don't know about you guys, but if I where twelve I would be seriously dissapointed. And granted that is still the main focus group of the companies.

Hostest Fruit Pies!!!!

no, really, I enjoy these dvds...it's a very good in site to how kids where exposed to batman and i think its interesting to try and put my self in there loafers. i get up at ass crack of morrning go down to the local cinema and catch only 15mins. of the first chapter only to return a full week later to capture yet another 15mins of a chapter...and they say that over the past few years kids have lost there attention span due to tv and the internet, hence why they sought out to make shorter movies and shorter stuff of the like

exactly. its intentionally misleading for christmas shoppers. after all, having the cover look like Daredevil is no coincidence.

AgentGraves!, yeah its a strange experience. you have to resist the urge to watch them all at once of the dvd to get the proper experience.

it DOES get REALLY tedious after a while, since there's no sense of rising climax, just lots of individual cliffhangers and ministories. The cliffhangers after each chapter aren't really all that exciting (its a lot like how they used to have a cliffhanger at the end of EVERY chapter in a Goosebumps novel).

I've certainly seen a lot better movie serials with better cliffhangers, the old Robin Hood one is great fun.

Agreed friend....those things are unbearable the superman serials are more climatic than those...but as a batman fan i have learned to deal with the swelling bloatedness of those dvds. and reserve them for a better suited time to watch them...I.E. when the mother in-law is down for the week! AAAAAAAAA gosh golly batman save me !!!!

i put them on when I'm doing homework. They're JUST dull enough to not distract me, but I can still occasionally glance up and see an strangely choreographed action sequence.

Actually, I realised the serial is the ONLY time I've ever seen somebody grab Batman's cape when he's running to trip him up and choke him. Awesome.

I think the cover looks great. It has a vintage retro 40's feel about it. I know the costumes are not exact but who cares. I'm just grateful that they're out there to watch. The serials ( both of them ) are classic!
