#4 came out Tuesday, and I got to say I really liked this issue. The action is picking up and I just can't wait till Batman handles the monk.

I agree, it's really starting to pick up now. This was definitely quite a dark issue so far in the miniseries. Between the thug getting eaten by the wolves or Gordon's dream about his son. Definitely some creepy stuff going on here. And, of course, Batman being a complete bad ass in this issue.

Buy it people, you will NOT regret it.

Youthink he's "rough and ugly?
I'd call guys like Eduardo Risso's art rough and ugly. Frank Miller's definitely...but Wagner's mostly cartoony and stylistic to me.

It seemed better in the latest issue. My only small complaint is that he makes Bruce a little too 'jowly' at times. But I DO love the storyline, Bats and the Monk have a history.

Year Two and Three aren't in continuity any more. The Long Halloween and Dark Victory pretty much replaced them.

The Man Who Laughs should take place directly after Year One on account that it begins right after Year One (Joker's appearance and threatening to poison the water supply)

Yeah, it was a good set up for the final showdown between Batman and Mad Monk. Damsel in distress. Her father finally completely losing his mind. Batman beaten to hell already but going into the battle hopped up on painkillers. Yeah, sounds about kick ass.

I am really loving Wagner's work. The scene where Batman goes to answer Gordon's call after what just happened looks classic. It just makes me sad that Wagner has one issue left. Hope he continues on one of the other titles, hopefully confidential since since he writes early tales like no other.

I'm hoping that he keeps doing miniseries like he's been doing. Hopefully we'll at least get to see another miniseries from him after Mad Monk.

I have no clue as to what is going on with Matt Wagner after this miniseries but I'd definitely love it if he did a Batman ongoing. Though I'm sure if it were an ongoing it'd be tough to write and draw like he has with the miniseries...if anything I'd love to have his artwork more than anything, it really fits with Batman.

Well....I read the last installment of this story. It was good and bad.

The Bad:
Never got a good fight between The Monk and Bat-Man. Why'd he keep running from Bats?? He's struck by lightning??? How anti-climactic is that??

The good:

The Joker tie-in and the billboard showing the Haley circus coming to town.

Yeah, that was dissapointing.

But all in all, a great mini.

I was a little disappointed with this last issue as well. Though we do find out what is up with the Mad Monk, sort of, with that little mini story at the end. Though it was cool seeing Batman in his early years and the billboard for the Haley Circus was a nice touch.

Overall this was another excellent miniseries by Matt Wagner and I'm also a little disappointed that it doesn't look like he's got another one lined up. So, looks like this one is it, for now.

The confrontation between Batman and the Monk was VERY anti climatic.

But still, it was a good story overall.

Yeah, the ending of the Batman/Mad Monk fight had that Marvel Knights Spider-Man feel to it. It was almost like a cop out.
